Although he did miss the opportunity to make the sequels in the 1999-2005 period instead - when Harrison, Mark and Carrie would have all been in better shape.

Yep very true. I wonder what we could have gotten in sequels if George had done them in the 90's. Probably for the best it didn't happen though.

For all the faults of the PT, at least George didn't bring back all the major cast only to squander them in separate scenes and kill them off.

Not to say that he might not of in his version of a sequel trilogy, but yikes JJ and Johnson.

Biggest mistake was to never have them share the screen together. Dumb move for sure.

AS for the main three dying.. Ford wanted it.. Carrie literally did.. Hamill was the only one the writers could have kept around to the very end.

But he is a force ghost.. So did he really die?? :lol

Oh boy here we go again.....

Let me cut you guys off and spare a lot of back and forth.

OT > PT and ST

On the lightsaber duels in PT. As mentioned before there is a distinct lack of danger from those lazar swords. Since they are so expertly blocking a thousand hits per minute.

The real issues was they looked more like a ballet more than an actual fight. It should have started as it did , but the devolved into a drag out no holds barred slash fest, not the twirling it was.

Hell it would have been great to see them fight WITHOUT sabers hand to hand and force to force for a while.

They *did* go hand-to-hand Force-to-Force briefly.

Ballet-like moves are *exactly* what I would?ve expected from the Jedi in their prime. And the twirling was easily explained by Anakin and Obi knowing each other so well they could anticipate the other?s every move. The twirling was a stalemate as they probed each other for an opening.

(Probed for an opening... said that she did! :lol )

Yep on all of it.

The reason they fought like that is cause they are experienced jedi who know how to weild a light saber. There are different styles. In the OT Luke doesn?t know how to use one and obiwan is old and Vader is a robot who is moreso a force user now. In the ST kylo ren fought like the PT with his graceful style and twirling. Rey and finn swung it like idiots using a baseball bat .

I didn't bother getting the "Art of..." book for TROS like I normally would for these movies, so something from it got my attention today. I came across an article that delved into Dave Filoni's role in the brainstorming sessions for the ST. One of those sessions with the LFL story group is actually printed in the book.

I really wish I had seen it sooner because the irony is incredible to me when I consider the fan discussions/debates over the last few years. I'm not going to editorialize any further than that, I just want to post a pic from the book that documents the discussion - and I'll let the Dave Filoni quotes speak for themselves.

And since the photo glare is in an unfortunate spot, I'll type out that section below to distinguish where Filoni's words stop and Kiri Hart (everyone's favorite Story Group member :lol) starts talking:

Dave Filoni: "I love that. We should shift it so Leia is the Obi-Wan of this entire trilogy. I don't even think it hurts that she's not primarily the mentor figure in VII because, like John had been saying, the audience expectation is so on Luke. And when that proves not to be true, it's way more powerful. It's dangerous because it makes it so about the women of Star Wars. Something to me says that's right.

"There is something happening culturally. You look at birth, regeneration, the world itself needing healing: All of those things are emblematic of the 'mother' character in myth. They are all matriarchal things - Mother Earth itself, global warming is a hot topic. George [Lucas] was always so good at tapping into what's happening in culture. And he hits us with it. The idea that we have Leia, a mother character who needs healing in her own right - that's something we can get into in a deeper way."

Kiri Hart: "I couldn't survive one of the things that has happened to Leia. What causes someone to be willing to battle when she has lost her planet; after she discovers she has a brother; after he disappears? She never actually knew her parents, and now her son has gone awry and, by the time Episode VII is over, she's a widow? . . ."

If the text isn't legible in this pic format, the article I saw this in is here:

https://boundingintocomics.com/2020...tar-wars-the-last-jedi-director-rian-johnson/

Toward the end of the article, there's also a video of Filoni at a conference that I found a bit ironic as well in the context of fan debates.

Her contribution was Jannah.

Imagine if you could go back and tell your child self how much Star Wars would be around in the 2020s. You'd blow your little mind!

Some, maybe even most, will be mediocre, but there's never been this much SW.

(Of course, all these new shows and characters probably mean we'll be waiting even longer for HT Bespin Han :( )

For this old guy, I have digested almost all the new Star Wars material available. Some gave me ingestion, but it usually tastes good enough to want more.

Then again, addicts say similar about their muse.

I think about this every time I turn on Disney + and there is an Actual SW channel.

I just.. I cant believe it.

I will probably never get rid of Disney + because I just love having that channel.

I am sure my 4 year old self would have loved the PT.

I would tell him when he is older to try and remember to watch the PT and much of the ST like you have the brain of a 4 year old.

My buddy just watched TPM with his 7-year-old and the kid loved it and connected with Anakin immediately. It's a real kid's film. *shrug*
