TPM was a must see event.

We all know how that turned out.

In other words the quality of the product itself will determine if it is to become a must see event.

That being said Mandalorian will always be special because it was the first live action SW TV show it is the 77 of SW TV.

This. Honestly , Endgame and LOTR was the last we shall see of that.

Unless Harry Potter does sequels.

I understand that connection.

Well, at least there's no Taco Bell listed there. I guess AOTC still has exclusive rights lol..

That's definitely gone. Star Wars is now like comic books -- ever-present and disposable; something for everybody.

The "Let's see what sticks" Era has begun. Star Wars Phase 4.

AKA The "Bantha Poodoo" Era. :D

I get what you're saying, but I think back to the pre-TPM hype and buzz very fondly. That lasted for a pretty long time. Sure, the hangover that set in as the movie played in the theater was tough to deal with, but the buzz before that was crazy.

No matter how bad any SW movie ended up being, sometimes there would be years of speculation and anticipation because it was all or nothing. I wouldn't dream of skipping a pre-Disney SW movie. Now I'm all but certain that I'll be skipping some SW "content" going forward.

SW stopped being the event it once was once MARVEL stepped in on the scene.

SW never had competition before. Now its got plenty.

Then add the old farts aging out... If SW took another 15 year break I really think the next trilogy would be met with less enthusiasm.

Perhaps I am in the minority but when the ST was announced, even with the OT cast, I was less excited then I was for the PT.

I don't think it was the lack of quality of the PT that dampened my excitement either.. But just getting older.

Having said that.. I seem to be the only one excited about all the new announcements.. :lol Hell I am even warming up to the Bad Batch. :)

I have been excited about every announcement.

PT was of course HUGE because we finally were getting more content.

ST was HUGE due to the potential story going back to the OT heroes.

While I find things I Love , Like and Loath about each set of films, overall I was glad for the journey.

I basically feel the same about Mando, and the new announcements.

Seriously , it?s great to have a single SW TV show, never mind all of these new ones! I try not to be a downer as I remember what it was like to live BEFORE Youtube, DVD or VHS and the LOOOOONG droughts of zero Sci Fi to watch.

Honesty , part of the reason today?s audiences feel so comfortable crapping on something (before it?s even out ) is because they know that a lot more content is coming.

I guess I am still eternally grateful to have the SW Universe back, and content coming.

I never dreamed to have SW , MCU and DCU TV shows , TV SHOWS!!!!!!! Now I have all this stuff to watch.

Because I am a Sci-Fi comic nerd at heart and many years of deprivation and ?reality shows ? were hard to sit through.

Oh I agree.. I am very thankful and love that we are getting it.

I am not as pumped for it all as I was when I was in my mid 20's and defiantly not as excited as I was when I was a kid.

But its a great time to be a SW fan.

And not just TV shows but feature film quality productions from week to week. Unreal.

Personally I was definitely more excited for the ST than I was the PT. As exciting as it was to finally have new SW (TPM) there was always something a little off in not having it be a direct continuation of ROTJ.

The ST wasn’t a direct continuation of ROTJ either.

Some half baked alternative timeline.

I love Star Wars. Before TFA was released I was extremely excited. At the time we fully expected a continuation of ROTJ, and rightly so.

Then trailers started appearing, promotional images were released, things started to get leaked etc. and this started to dampen my excitement slightly. However, it was only after I saw TFA that my excitement completely disappeared and I realised that this wasn't the EU/Timothy Zahn-esque continuation of the Star Wars story that we expected, but rather some very expensive fan fiction that didn't really understand or respect anything that had come before. We weren't going to get a continuation of ROTJ.

This was just further confirmed by TLJ.

To this day I have still not seen TROS. That says it all really - a Star Wars fan that has not seen the latest "Star Wars" movie. I just can't accept it as Star Wars. I just can't acknowledge anything about the ST as being in the same room as everything we got before, let alone the same galaxy.

"All" the shows? Of course not. :)

But if we go from one Mando-quality show per year to four or five then I say hell yeah bring it on. If that means that there are an additional 4-5 that suck no big. TCW and Rebels already proved that I am perfectly capable skipping entire SW series without batting an eye so I can definitely do that for any upcoming stinkers.

That said I finally finished binging the entirety of Rebels last week and ended up loving it overall.

Apologies if I am just misunderstanding your meaning here, but I was under the impression that both The Clone Wars and Rebels are largely praised and accepted parts of the Star Wars story? I love both, so trying not to sound biased, but I genuinely thought that this was the case?

Could care less if another SW movie ever achieves the same anticipation as TPM or TFA as long as it is good it will be celebrated and embraced.

The need for a franchise to remain and feel special for 40-50 consecutive years is actually pretty odd behavior try some self reflection embrace the good discard the bad and move on with your life try knitting lol

Not sure if this was directed at me or just a general comment, but I don't necessarily feel the need for Star Wars to remain or feel special. I am more than happy with the story I already have from Episode I-VI and the subsequent animated material from The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Even if there is never any Star Wars media released again, I will always have that story and I will revisit it for the rest of my life. I have a son who is 6 months old and cannot wait to share it with him.

Sure, I would like new Star Wars content to be good, I would find it odd if somebody wanted it to be bad. However, as I said, I am very happy with I-VI and TCW/Rebels if the new content turns out to be bad.

I will say that how much I care about the quality of new Star Wars content does vary depending on where it sits in the continuity. Anything set in the Republic or Empire era of Episode I-VI has me excited and I really want it to be good. If it turns out bad, I'll be bummed out but life goes on. I care less about anything set in the ST era as it is a time that I, personally, do not recognise as canon nor do I have any investment in. If it's good, ok. If not, ok.

Like with The Mandalorian - it's great, and I want it to continue to be great. However, the minute there is so much of a whiff of the First Order, Kylo Ren, Luke running away etc... I'm out.

But they aren?t embraced anymore. Mando is the only thing keeping the franchise alive . People don?t like seeing a franchise die buddy. I know your content with the crap writing of the ST and that?s cool but some people don?t want to see there fav franchise dip in quality and be the butt on the joke.

I?m a sonic fan so I know all this to well

Ok I will agree with this to an extent. Despite it slightly contradicting my previous post about me not necessarily feeling the need for Star Wars to remain special or relevant with new content - I do feel a slight pang of sadness when I talk about my love for Star Wars with someone and for them it's like "Oh yeah Rey, Poe, Finn right? For the Resistance! BB-8 is great!".

We yeah well of course....age dampens excitement for almost everything really.

Learning some new skill is about everything only thing that makes me feel like a kid again.

Always happy to fix something or discover a new hobby.

But look at what you just wrote:

If SW is not embraced anymore then how is Mando keeping SW alive.

You knuckle head you lol

You know I still love you even though you hate Han, Luke and Leia

I think many of us (myself included) just assumed they were cartoons for kids, and that TCW was just a rehashing of the events of AOTC and ROTS for a new, younger audience. Heck, I didn't even know Rebels was a thing until Mando came out along with the last season of TCW. There were enough people here recommending TCW and Rebels that I was persuaded to give them a try (especially in light of Filoni's involvement and potential crossovers to Mando). Not all the stories are stellar, but there are plenty that are along with some great, new (to me) characters.

Stops and thinks of AOTC

Umm disregard lol

I need way more live action on Ahsoka for me to fully come around on her just because she is non existent in the movies NOT EVEN A NAME DROP in the PT yikes :slap

Hell same for Anakin Obi Wan hopefully their 6 hour series will give more insight.
