I went over very similar ground several posts back. Can't remember if it was this thread or another ST afflicted one. :lol

Disney dressed up the film in a progressive coat but it proved to be a bit threadbare, which is what you'd expect (I guess) from a massive, conservative money-making machine.

The usual suspects disagree with the above analysis of Rey's character being defined by her abuse at the hands of mysterious-there's-still-good-in-him-psycho-parent-killing-kinda-sorta-boyfriend. :rotfl

Yah know if you dont look at Rey as some "disney Agenda" and just view her as a person in the SW universe.. none of that stuff matters.

She was just as abusive to Kylo. They both brain ****ed each other. She is just another jedi to me and I don't really think about her being a girl.. She is just rey.

Now dont get me wrong.. I had the Mary Sue issues at first also.. But they went away after the explanations for her powers were given and I already stated how her life was not any easier then Lukes other than not loosing a limb. Luke and Rey also seemed pretty good at teaching themselves force powers that nobody else showed them.

Still having them kiss at the end was dumb but not for the whole abusive boyfriend reasons. As I said.. They were both pretty abusive to each other. Then you have the whole Diad thing to explain the stronger then usual connection.

It was just forced.. Unless you want to say she just kissed him because he saved her.. but that is some head canon you will have to create.

Ben brought Rey back to life while saving just enough energy to live himself. She then woke up, greedily sucked the last of his life force out of his mouth and killed him. She was still hungry and wanting more though hence her sad expression when he disappeared, lol.

Watching the High Republic trailer... IDK I dont see the big deal.. They kind of all look like young version of the Jedi Council we see in the PT.

And I am not saying that as an insult.

Having said all this... I know nothing about the books / comics / games etc... So if its crap its crap.. The look of it just looked like a very PT jedi order before the dark times.. Before the Empire.

Now there is the one fat one... I dont know what to say about here. If she was a guy I dont know if anybody would care. Asian Martial Arts films had fat dudes that could kick some ass in them all the time.

Again I know nothing about the material this is based on.

I guess I am just on a SW high right now.. I am willing to give anything a chance :lol

Ok this is kind of funny. But you just got done saying the ST force powers being like a video game and then defended the PT force sprint powers because you used them in a video game :)

It's like giving the entire AOTC Droid Factory sequence a pass because you just got done playing Mega Man. ;)

I mean you got 80 year old guys flipping all over the place like the emperor and sometimes for no good reason like Count D before the saber duel in ROTS. Force sprints, picking other jedi up and throwing them.. etc..

This fact really took a baseball bat to our in-universe rationale for why the duel in ANH is so slow and tame by comparison with every other duel. Post-PT, apparently age matters not.

Snikt would be proud of the vampire theory

I am not bashing on the PT here this time.. But the force powers in the PT were just as over the top in those films as they were in the ST. Maybe more so.. I would even compare the PT as being more video game like in their powers for sure.

Mace Windu falling 50 stories, Obi wan and Anakin jumping and falling all over the place on Coruscant

the ST has its moments with Leia and Force healing (though Mando show did it first).

So I really dont see the big difference between the two.

Both are very over the top and jumping sharks when compared to the OT

You sprung my trap bro.

I just wanted an excuse to post this video,

And say that it’s not just a video game, but Star Wars canon.

Also,

KYLE KATARN STOLE THE DEATH STAR PLANS, “ROGUE ONE” NEVER HAPPENED

That is all.

Unless one sucks at video games and quit halfway through, in which case he didn't. :D

I never played that one.. So RO is still Canon for me :) I played the one with Dash Rendar though

Okay so I went back to basics and watched Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress and then TLJ again.

Not only is THF a near perfect film in its own right but it's definitely fun to revisit so much of what inspired George in one 2+ hour package.

But with regard to TLJ yes I know that there's only a small handful of us that vocalize our praise for that film online but damn...immediately after watching an all-time great like The Hidden Fortress TLJ is just so freaking epic. How anybody could cry tears of joy over watching a cloaked stuntman take out some droids in a small corridor compared to Mark Hamill himself standing up to a *freaking AT-AT firing squad.* :thud:

And not even regular AT-AT's they were super AT-AT's like three times taller than the normal ones. *That* was the true counterpoint to RO Vader's rampage, and really even puts Vader (and all other Jedi) to shame. If Mando wants to distance itself from the ST and live in its own pocket universe then sorry, Mando will forever live in the lesser SW universe.

I know that Filoni deliberately aped Kurosawa (in what is still probably my favorite episode of the series) but TLJ did it better.

The latter is just beyond epic.

:rock I've had Yojimbo queued up to stream for a few days now to revisit the world of Kurosawa, but you've just inspired me to move Hidden Fortress ahead of that.

Yes! Do it, it's so good!! :rock

HF even helped me to appreciate TPM a little more since the princess who was an obvious inspiration for both Leia and Padme spends most of the film in disguise even using (and then weeping over) body doubles to trick those who are pursuing her.

Of course TPM/AOTC did it much *worse* (lol) but it's still a fun parallel nonetheless.

1st... I hated the super At Ats.. Would have meant more if they did something other then fire at a single person
2nd... Its kind of hard to get excited at the scene anymore when you know he is not there. its not really a stand off then. Granted first time in the theater I thought it was and thought it was cool.. But like many others I was let down that he was not really there. I have come to like it since then but its only a visual que now to The Hidden Fortress and even though Luke does die.. Its just not as exciting.

But I was thinking of Luke and The Mandalorian last night and all that..

I came to realize something.. I am just not the biggest fan of Jedi Luke. I much prefer ANH and ESB Luke. I was not crazy about him in Return of the Jedi and thought he came across as the dullard he was in that film in the Mando episode.

I know he is acting more Jedi Knight like in those two moments but I am not the biggest fan of the Jedi knights.

I think thats why I liked him more in TLJ then most.. People wanted that ROTJ Luke. I prefer the more emotional Luke. He may not have turned out like I imagined but he was fun to watch.

It doesn't matter whether they were normal AT-ATs, super AT-ATs or incredibly AT-ATs. It's a gutless move from a gutless Jedi because it wasn't him. It was merely a projection of himself and he knew he couldn't be killed. It took no courage whatsoever.
I know you're an ST stooge but to claim TLJ is "epic" shows just how much you have lost the plot.

For the record those B&W shots above are from Seven Samurai. But HF is chalk full of moments that inspired George for both ANH and TPM. Luke facing the AT-AT's is also a SS moment but TLJ takes additional inspiration from Rashomon and Ran.

With regard to Luke on Crait if he was using the Force to protect himself from the AT-AT blasts does it really matter if he was there in the flesh or not? I mean pretty much everybody in the theater that first night watched him step out of the smoke and pretend to brush his shoulder and we all just assumed that he was using the Force to absorb the blasts like Vader did when Han shot at him on Cloud City. And we all thought it was awesome. So if either way he's using the Force to make himself effectively invulnerable I don't think it actually matters if he's there or not. When he dueled Kylo he easily dodged every single attack so it wasn't like he was using the "projection" as some kind of crutch.

Personally the fact that he did everything he did while leaving his "crude matter" behind just makes it all the more awesome to me and even more of a culmination of him becoming a true master of the Force.

Great point. Conflicted Luke is the best Luke.
