For the record those B&W shots above are from Seven Samurai. But HF is chalk full of moments that inspired George for both ANH and TPM. Luke facing the AT-AT's is also a SS moment but TLJ takes additional inspiration from Rashomon and Ran.

Well damn it.. Why bring talk about The Hidden Fortress and then post pics of Seven Samurai?? Just to make me look bad.

With regard to Luke on Crait if he was using the Force to protect himself from the AT-AT blasts does it really matter if he was there in the flesh or not? I mean pretty much everybody in the theater that first night watched him step out of the smoke and pretend to brush his shoulder and we all just assumed that he was using the Force to absorb the blasts like Vader did when Han shot at him on Cloud City. And we all thought it was awesome. So if either way he's using the Force to make himself effectively invulnerable I don't think it actually matters if he's there or not. When he dueled Kylo he easily dodged every single attack so it wasn't like he was using the "projection" as some kind of crutch.

Yeah.. I am just talking about the punch in the gut that some of us felt when it turned out he wasn't there.

Personally the fact that he did everything he did while leaving his "crude matter" behind just makes it all the more awesome to me and even more of a culmination of him becoming a true master of the Force.

I came to like the scene for the reason you posted.. I am just making mention to the fact that the scene is only comparable in the visual and not so much the action.

I think the whole point of him not going was that he was worried he might actually kill Kylo confirmed when he told Leia he was not there to save him

Sorry Khev but real Luke is all about the lightsaber anything less than 500 swings a minute is Jake Skywalker

What do you expect from people who grew up with this, lol:

Okay so I went back to basics and watched Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress and then TLJ again.

Not only is THF a near perfect film in its own right but it's definitely fun to revisit so much of what inspired George in one 2+ hour package.

But with regard to TLJ yes I know that there's only a small handful of us that vocalize our praise for that film online but damn...immediately after watching an all-time great like The Hidden Fortress TLJ is just so freaking epic. How anybody could cry tears of joy over watching a cloaked stuntman take out some droids in a small corridor compared to Mark Hamill himself standing up to a *freaking AT-AT firing squad.* :thud:

And not even regular AT-AT's they were super AT-AT's like three times taller than the normal ones. *That* was the true counterpoint to RO Vader's rampage, and really even puts Vader (and all other Jedi) to shame. If Mando wants to distance itself from the ST and live in its own pocket universe then sorry, Mando will forever live in the lesser SW universe.

I know that Filoni deliberately aped Kurosawa (in what is still probably my favorite episode of the series) but TLJ did it better.

The latter is just beyond epic.

Too bad Luke wasn’t even there. So the threat of standing off against super duper AT-ATs was a sham. There was no real danger.

Sorry Khev, but I like my Lukes to be real,

I really hope you realize that OT fans are the ones saying this right? Like you do know that the majority of OT fans hate what they did to Luke . Like yes you have Pt fans saying it was dumb but the vast majority of people hating are people who grew up with the OT.

You guys are in a very very very very verrrrrrry small minority when it comes to OT fans who enjoy the ST. And there is only like 4 or 5 of you tops in this room. Only you and jye keep the the ST convo going for hrs. The rest are either meh or hate it

PT fans don?t have a strong attachment to Luke. It was OT fans who were displeased with Luke and how he was treated.

You really think everyone that was happy about Luke coming back in mando only grew up with the PT ?

Sit down

I thought that was so cool at first then to find out he was sitting in his safe space on a rock away from danger. Died alone on a rock .

Yup go back in time and tell young jye and khev that?s what?s in store for there OT characters and I guarantee they?d slap there future selves for liking it so much .

And what they are whining about

If a post is more than a few sentences long, I don’t read it.

And you don’t have to apologize. I’m never gonna watch that ****.

There isn’t any original content in Star Wars anymore. People go on and on about the universe and canon, but it’s so, so, tiny and contained for a story that spans over 40 years and dozens of systems. Everything is a just copy of the first two films, regurgitated over and over again. The prequels were guilty of this as well. Mando is no different. Memba Boba Fett?! Memba Yoda!? Memba the Imperial Transport?! Memba the Clone Wars and Rebels kids’ show?! Memba Luke!?

You seen one Star Wars, you seen em’ all.

Again, Star Wars is about toys, and Boba Fett (including all the copy cats that look like him) and Yoda always sell.

It was just forced.. Unless you want to say she just kissed him because he saved her.. but that is some head canon you will have to create.

I know it's not canon, but the TROS novelisation described it as a "kiss of gratitude", which outraged the Reylos.

You?re not wrong. I?m generally gonna eat pizza but there?s not a lot of GREAT pizza and a lot of mediocre pizza and there?s the gluten-free vegan deconstructed sequel pizza which tastes like plastic and sand.

Looking at the massive slate of upcoming content, I?ll probably watch some of it, but after sitting with Mandalorian a while, I think it?s gonna be some nice visuals and more mediocre story and acting at best.

Maybe this is why I just haven?t felt compelled to buy any Mando merch yet. Who knows. Maybe the more I talk about Star Wars the more I think it?s crap. [emoji23]

The irony of it all is that TLJ real Hamill Luke Skywalker is denounced as fake Jake Skywalker apparition but the stunt man cgi Luke in Mando is deemed the real Luke Skywalker.

Weird how some things turn out sometimes lol

Great point. Conflicted Luke is the best Luke.

Yes but imagine if you thought you had sex with someone and found out it was just a projection. Be pretty lame. Last jedi Luke projection is like that.
