Watto. She still had the explosive transmitter implanted. Not the best plot point ever, but whaddaya gonna do.

Good point. Though Qui-Gon could've used his powers to deal with that.

And this is what makes the Jedi a cold, heartless order.

Cold but not cruel. Their morals are probably Vulcan-like: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Or in Qui-Gon's case, "The end justifies the means."

And misguided as well.

Qui-Gon Jinn: A boy. His cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life-form. It was possible he was concieved by the midi-chlorians.
Mace Windu: You refer to the prophecy of The One who will bring balance to the Force. You believe it's this boy?

Virgin births, false prophets and midi-chlorians. Could've done without all those!

I think the PT was a lose-lose situation honestly. Everyone who watched the OT already had a pre-set notion of what they wanted to happen. When it didn't.... the hate started and just spewed from there.

Skipping everything you mentioned.... I bet people would have complained about who is the father then if the prophecy was not explained. Or why he is so powerful. I just think there would be more questioning and hate when you start to redo things and just new things to make people complain about.

I watched Episode 1 first. Then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Everyone else one here I can guarantee watched them 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. I never had that pre-set thought of what I wanted to happen. I watched Star Wars from a perspective that I didn't know anything about it. I watched them, liked them, and never really complained about them. I think if everyone had there mind wiped, watched them in the order I did, the PT hate would be not be nearly as bad as it is now.

Edit: Although... I can understand AOTC hate... I think that would still stand :lol

Well, when I said no one could stop him, Watto was included too. Qui Gon should have killed the little bastard easily instead of making a deal with him...Jedi aren't above killing or cheating either(when he rolled the dice) to get what they want. Maybe Qui Gon didn't think Annie's mom was going to be Annie's downfall. Had he foreseen that, he would have killed Watto, imo. I'm surprised Yoda didn't do something about it before it was too late.

That would have been an interesting perspective from which to see the story.

Inspired by the expectation that the Sequel Trilogy will become an easily acceptable continuation, I cast the hate aside and forced myself to view the PT as a legitimate entry . That was an interesting experience as well!

Certain elements will probably always grate and make me cringe. As mentioned before: lame attempts at humour (especially those involving Jar Jar); the sickly sweet Ani; Battle Droid voices; the virgin birth was overtly too Christian, though since Christianity did derive its stories from those of ancient Egypt I could find a way to make this acceptable as a pre-monotheistic prophecy.

Midi-chlorians might tie into that last element, but as pantheistic:

Obi-Wan: The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

Presuming that Abrams can't make midi-chlorians disappear completely, since they're in Episodes I-III, The Force Awakens implies they were taking a nap.

It was the only perspective I ever knew. I think if one watches them that way.... it really helps.

I rewatched TPM a few weeks ago and I laughed at everything Jar-Jar said. I don't know if I thought it was actually funny or if it was so stupid it became funny :lol I enjoyed majority of his lines though. It is really his actions though where I understand the Jar-Jar hate. The tongue being numb and his hand stuck was pointless. His falling in the background in somewhat annoying throughout, but really... I think it is just for the little kids to laugh at it. His battle scene where he takes out the droids with his foot controlling the trigger was excessive if one was to overly critique this.

"I have feelings for you to" might have been the worst line in the entire saga. I don't blame Jake for that line, I blame George for writing it and letting it stick. That really to me describes sickly sweet perfectly. The "are you an angel line" is annoying to. Other than that, I really enjoyed his performance and thought he did a respectable passable job.

I love the battle droid voices :lol ROGER ROGER :lol

I don't mind the virgin birth. I know the connections that have been made and there was a pretty big debate about it here not to long ago that I stayed out of... I don't really care. I overlook all that.

Watching it from the 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 perspective... I do understand the hate though for Midichlorians. With me watching it the way I did... and progressing through the episodes... I really never thought anything of it. I just accepted there were midicholrians and the more you had the stronger one was with the force. I don't think they need to be brought up again though in the ST. They could technical mention it if rumors about Ren
not being a Sith
are true, but who knows. I think JJ already said he was steering clear of Midichlorian talk anyways.

Thanks for making a respectful reply with actual answers as to why you don't like parts of the PT. I don't care if anyone dislikes it... I just want to know why and hate seeing the same hateful replies. :duff

They still should have gone back for her after the Naboo crisis was over. Settled her in some quiet pocket of the galaxy. Maybe Alderaan. It'd have been better than leaving her on a mob controlled desert planet and leaving her potentially dangerous son to worry over her fate.

I actually surprised myself! I've never had the will power to get beneath the skin of the PT before.

I was shocked the first time I saw TPM - it was an affront to my love for the OT.

However, I'm now able to view it as a legitimate part of the story, but one told in a very different style.

At the very least there are some great visuals and scenery that flesh out the universe - such as the approach to Coruscant and the time spent there.

Han looking as suave as ever.

This just blows my mind. He's back.

It was just a couple years ago that no one could have ever imagined this happening. THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! :yess::panic::hi5::blissy:dance

Are there no Corellian Boodstripes on his pants? I was hoping for the red stripe again. In the EU, it's explained he sets those aside for the yellow stripes because the red ones are usually only awarded posthumously and with him being wanted, he thought the yellow ones would be less conspicuous.

Yeah yeah, they threw out the EU. But little world building details like that have no reason to be disregarded.

Well...NO stripes would be less conspicuous. Stuff like this is why I don't take much of the EU fiction I've heard of seriously.
