Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

hell yeah, that was a great book for a kid wanting more sw. i still have my original copy..............although not mint........:lol

Same here. Come to think of it, I have to dig it up and make sure I still have it. It's been years since I've read it so I wouldn't mind reading it again now as an adult.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I bought Splinter with high hopes, major disappointment!!! I should've really expected it with it being written straight after ANH was released, but theres just too many factors that don't ring true with the Star Wars Universe we now know.

I think its the point when Obi-Wan takes control of Luke's body and fights Vader that was the final nail in the coffin for me. Although its interesting when Leia fights Vader and isn't slaughtered yet she has never had any lightsaber training, Lucas passed over every inch of the novel before approving it ???? :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Thank goodness he did... Although it does surprise me the Kaiburr Crystal played such a big role in the original drafts of Star Wars and never made it to any of these movies. I wonder if it will play a role in the ST?

I believe Kaiburr Crystals are referenced in the Clone Wars series as just being the crystal used in lightsabers.

What an anti-climactic cop out use of such a crucial MacGuffin.... I thought a quest for a MacGuffin (while not new for movies) would be fresh for the Star Wars universe. It could replace the "super weapon" idea people fear will be rehashed. I'm not so sure it will be. The PT didn't have a super weapon.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

The Kaiburr crystal has become a changed premise in the SW universe. In 'Splinter' the shard is a portion of something larger, and the completed whole would give whoever possessed it total dominion over The Force. When Luke touched the shard Vader feels it from across the galaxy. Luke also used the shard ...

to bring Leia back from the dead after Vader runs her through with his lightsaber

Vaguely remember that. And the growing attraction between them. And the Yuzzum. That's about it...

The brother and sister thing is a big cop-out Lucas pulled out of his ass for Jedi. "Hmmm, how do I resolve a love triangle without making Luke fans hate Han and Leia?"

Nah...if it was as simple with that he could have just said that as part of being a Jedi that Luke would need to be celebate.

If that was in Lucas' thinking then it came to him after he'd already decided that Luke and Leia were siblings. Lucas had written his original outline with Anakin having twin sons, that then was changed to a boy and a girl, it was only when he came to the latter half of Empire that he reallised he couldn't physically make more than one more film so he began tieing up the loose ends. He'd had to remove Gary Kurtz as producer, Empire was running way over budget so he went to his early drafts and as he had it already planned out in his mind it was easy to make that switch.

Give me a break...nonsense...I suppose he pulled out the Father and son aspect too out of his ass too...c'mon man it tied in very well and was hinted in ESB

Except it wasn't

While Lucas did plan for Luke to have a sister, the original plot for ROTJ was to have Luke travel off to some distant planet to find her. Leia being his sister was a late addition to the script.

If Lucas has planned all along for Leia to be his sister, this would probably not have happened:

Also, the father and son aspect was just as much pulled out of Lucas' ass. Vader being Anakin didn't even show up until several drafts into ESB, one of which had Anakin showing up as a force ghost, and sharing a scene with Darth Vader.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

So assuming it's true that "Luke/Leia as twins" and "Vader as Anakin" were written as George went along... therefore what? :dunno

You and Khev have been drinking spoiled blue milk. Stop and think about your own post for a sec. If it wasn't thought of by the end of ESB, why cut that scene?

I think thats a publicity still not a scene, same as Luke sitting in some weird looking canon.

The scene where Leia kisses Luke, Leia's only does it to wind Han up... hence the yoodel by Chewie. Looks like someones been spiking their egg nog with blue milk:lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Wrong and wrong. Luke even having a sister in the first place was only thought up pretty much on the fly in ESB, as Lucas thought the possibility of there being another potential savior might make the audience fear for Luke's survival in the final battle with Darth Vader.

And as I stated earlier, the original plan for ROTJ was to have Luke's sister be some new, random character that Luke goes to search for. It being Leia was just a more convenient way to quickly tie up two storylines at once.

Also, yes that picture is just a promotional photo from a scene not included in the film. But if the secret plan which you know all along is that these two characters are siblings, why would you possibly take it in the first place?

Luke and Leia being brother and sister was a part of the main story since Lucas first came up with the idea of Star Wars.

That's wrong.

I don't know where you get your information, laser brain.

If Luke actually knew Leia was his sister and they kiss then hey..but he didnt know till after...just like Joe Dirt...LOL...either way it fit and flowed in the story line perfectly....If Lucas did make this up while filming then good for him...it was the right call IMHO
