Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I think she put the drug issues behind her but she is bi-polar as I recall so on par with Kidder. :panic:

Oh. Well, there's Lithium for that, and they can work around it (not film with her if she's feeling like she's becoming manic, schedule her shoot for another date). Not being crass here, but people with mental health issues can often find a way to work around them, I'm sure Hollywood can as well.

Oh, and yes, she was briefly on Smallville, she played the head of the Daily Planet prior to Perry White!

I know in terms of her craft she can deliver. I was reminiscing about the Carrie I grew up with as a pubescent teen to the reality check today.

I used to think she was a cutie nowadays not so much. Beyond bragging about frequent electroconvulsive therapy to battle her bi-polar, being a former drug addict AND was married to Paul Simon. :monkey4

Oh, yeah. Life often has a way of not delivering on the dreams of our youth. In hindsight, we're all kinda cute in our youth, then sometimes life takes us in weird directions - the trick is to finesse it as best we can. I don't think of present day Carrie Fisher as a "cutie" per se, but she is a survivor and will make a kick-*** "mature" Leia!

As long as they don't make the mistakes they made with Karen Allen. I don't want to see Carrie and Ford trading doe eyes and sh-t. Han and Leia should've been divorced years ago.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

This is the biggest movie she's been in for 30 years. Between now and filming they'll have a personal trainer to whip her into shape. LFL also has the best makeup and costume people in Hollywood. Of course there's also there's botox and plastic surgery. She'll have work done.

All of that is true for Mark Hamill as well.

budget wise, you can save money if you CGI both of them. :lol

or

let sharon osbourne play leia. :monkey3

As funny as it sounds, but i can't honestly see them still being together. Leia has always been strong enough to leave Han and i couldn't see her being the housewife type, more following her brother and restoring the Jedi order.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Looks good here. I could see Jedi Leia Skywalker here.

Give her Anakin style leather Jedi gear and she'll be perfect :hi5:

Plus she did'nt look to bad in Fanboys.

I think the books had it right in her not focusing on her Jedi training much. She was a idealistic politician in the OT who hoped to restore a just galactic government and that would take a lot of time and effort. I see her becoming the new Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic before I see her becoming a Jedi Master.

And after how soft Han became in RotJ, I can see them staying together. Han could act as her bodyguard and "aggressive negotiator" in the Outer Rim with sleezebags he had contact with from his smuggling days.

Or perhaps the EU is influencing my opinion of their futures too much...

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

No way they're together after 30 years.

It's difficult to imagine Han as a guy who's going to suffer through summits and dinners with royalty or dignitaries. Leia on the other hand is never going to be at home on a grungy ship like the Falcon. Neither of these people strike me as capable of giving up their lives to live in the other's world. Maybe breifly, long enough to have a kid or two, but not permanently.

Luke needs to rebuild the Jedi Order, the natural starting point would have been his sister. I don't see her as being an aggressive field Jedi, but I could see her being second to Luke on the new Jedi council, maybe the keeper of the Temple of Ilum and a liaison to the new Galactic Senate. Something spiritual/political. I could also see her falling out with Han over the years. Seems natural to me that, after his turn as a general, the New Republic would look to him with the regard of General Washington after the American Revolution - he could have been tasked with rebuilding the military, maybe even done a stint as Chancellor (crazy, huh?). I assume he'd be retired by the events of Ep VII, maybe gone off his own way. The career paths of these two individuals could have led to estrangement. It actually would make for a very moving film if the events of Ep VII put them in each other's paths again, they start to bicker, the old chemistry is still there, things get interesting between them...and then Han gets killed, as Ford would like. Could drive the characters in interesting new directions, especially if they had children together.

Not that it would have to play out this way, but it's fun to speculate (since we have nothing solid to go on for awhile!)...

Leia or Lando would fit in that role easier than Solo. I could see Chancellor Lando.

Han would be highly regarded as a hero, but he's too much of a wanderer to take high office. If anything his recognition would quickly become a problem and he would probably start using an alias.

And once again I can't help myself but ask why are Han and Lando Generals when the guy who destroyed the first Death Star is a Commander? Nevermind, it's rhetorical. George wrote it.

That's why it would make a great, ironic turn if Han suffered through a term as Chancellor, maybe as the result of a direct plea from his wife - "The New Republic needs you, Han!" Maybe he wasn't great, got all the wrong people riled, was more of a symbolic figurehead, and it caused great friction and resentment between him and his wife. Actually, now that I think about it, it would make perfect sense for Lando to have become chancellor after him - smooth talking, administrative, a bit corrupt, he'd be a natural political animal, wildly popular, and serve a few terms consecutively.

Time to go write some fan fiction...:lol

Heh, I never questioned that. Perhaps Luke declined promotions because he was focused on his Jedi studies. Being a general in the real world comes with much more paperwork/responsibility. It should in the Star Wars galaxy as well. In the real world, Commander is a Naval rank and General an Army rank. What's the order for the Rebellion ranks? Is Luke still a commander in RotJ? Because Han was only a Captain in ESB. Captain of the Falcon or a Captain in the Rebel Alliance?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

It isn't just the physical aspect she is a bit loco as well.....

Who isn't a bit touched in this world? :lol

Many people think we're all nuts for collecting what we collect. :lecture

As for Carrie...for someone who is close to their 60's, she's in pretty good shape nowadays (considering her past).

Right but for *Princess Leia* we aren't supposed to look at her and say, "you know she doesn't actually look that bad for a recovering coke addict." ;)

Maybe Leia was a Spice addict? She still has some on her finger.

Han did make the Kessel run after all. :monkey3
