Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I think they would be better off going with a lesser known name anyway to be honest.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

There was a week or two where every director in Hollywood had a mic shoved in their face and were asked about SW. That doesn't mean they all turned it down.

It's actually bad form for a director to talk about "this is how I would direct that..." The Pros aren't going to talk about such a project if they might be negotiating.

The Old Republic!?!

https://www.vulture.com/2013/01/zack-snyder-preps-non-trilogy-star-wars-film.html

I admit, this is odd just because Star Wars ANH was already an adaptation of the Magnificent Seven, which was based on the Seven Samurai.

Where are you guys getting Old Republic from? The use of the phrase "parallel the new trilogy" tells us it won't be. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

"The site suggests that this new, temporarily untitled film would loosely remake Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, set in the past of George Lucas' sci-fi universe."

We've already seen the recent past in the PT, suggesting this takes place in the distant past.

But they said his film will "parallel" the new trilogy which takes place post Jedi, centuries after the Old Republic timeline. I'm all for it if it happens, but based on what ya posted, seems like it's just gonna be side stories and filler to complement the new trilogy.

Are we sure it's not the past as in "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?"

I read it takes place after RotJ at the same time as the Sequel Trilogy. Is this even real? I saw this posted on Facebook and rolled my eyes. But people are talking about it here. How can they develop a one-off movie while still trying to gather everyone needed for a sequel trilogy? Seems like a sloppy move. Unless they're going to do a NJO and get the filmmakers together and map out the next 10 years of Star Wars on film and make these tie in seamlessly with each other. Sorta like the Marvel Universe but making them at a much faster rate? :dunno

I hope it's not true. I don't want Zack Snyder near Star Wars. At all.

Maybe. I'd be cool with that too. If it were a Boba Fett film that took place between Jedi and Ep.7 I'll still be in line.

It's on a lot of sites today, making it as real as any internet rumor. In a week it might be all different.

:lecture

Mr. Toy Story 3 hashed out a writer's bible and I expect it does exactly what you think, mapping out the structure for the next ten years of SW.

I didn't realize Mr. Toy Story 3 did a writer's bible. I thought he was just doing Episode VII and then Mr. Empire Strikes Back and Mr. Sherlock Holmes were doing the next two. I am ecstatic at the people they got to write these films. I hope the director(s) announcement gets me as excited.

As for the internet rumor, I'm in the camp hoping it fizzles. There's a separate thread for that project so I guess we can move discussion there and focus on Episode VII here. I'm excited about Episode VII. Snyder Star Wars? Not so much....

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Snyders people denies the report.
Wishful thinking.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

*sigh of relief*

Seriously, let's focus on the Sequel Trilogy before we get to these other movies. I'm all for movies like this happening but they're setting out to make a trilogy now. Nothing should be made before that is complete in my opinion unless they're doing one/two movies a year like the Marvel Cinematic Universe does.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Told you so, there's no chance they would have been discussing something like that so far ahead and Snyder is an extremely unlikely candidate for a director of a Star Wars movie

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

As I said in the closed thread, I think this would be a good vehicle for a Sam Jackson led cast to do a Clone Wars era live action film.

Mace, Ki Adi and some other Jedi. Throw in another big actor or 3 as Quilon Vos, another Jedi and the lead bad guy and it could be really cool. To keep it away from the core story just don't have Obi-Wan or Anakin and you're ok.

Not sure though how you break those jedi away from the clones however. Or maybe 1 or 2 of the "7" are clones. IDK.

If you wanted to cast all new Jedi you could also do this post Order 66 with the 7 Jedi up against the clones. That might be cool.

No thanks. That ship has sailed.
