IrishJedi mentioned her, but most people don't know the first Star Wars was saved by Marcia Griffin (formerly Marcia Lucas) in the editing room. The few who had the chance to see the early workprint said it was a incoherent mess. Without her involvement SW would have been a one trick pony from the 70's filled with lots of WTF moments.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

A lot of people don't know that Marcie Griffin also played an integral role in procuring a secret peace agreement with North Vietnam's Le Duc Tho, thus helping bring an end to the Vietnam war.

Marcia Lucas/Griffin/Whatever is also the one responsible for George Lucas' nervous breakdown during ESB and RotJ. If she hadn't betrayed him then the prequels might've been made during the late 80's - early 90's when Lucas was still fresh. Lucas and her had just adopted 2 kids which she left him with to bring up alone, this affected what Lucas did during the time until the Special Editions.

Whilst Kurtz involvement can never be underestimated, he is said to have added many fantasy elements. His lack of involvement in RotJ helped in some ways, cirtainly the production didn't run over schedule and over budget as ESB had until Lucas fired him.

I don't think people give a crap if the production goes over schedule and over budget if the movie ends up being great

By people do you mean the audience, the studio execs or the guy thats reputation is at stake as well as his personal fortune?

By people I think he means the audience and the studio execs counting their hundreds of millions of dollars in profit from a great movie that went over budget and over schedule.

Who the crap cares? What is your point? :cuckoo:

There's always two sides to a story or a divorce, make sure you hear both sides.

Right, if the results are good then it's worth the trouble,

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

George must have told her about his ideas for the Prequels, giving her no choice but to run. ;)

The article throws out the idea his failed marriage fueled some of Anakins perspectives in Revenge when he wrote the script.
After reading the article in it's entirety that seems fairly plausible.

Sounds like she also saved the ending to Raiders.

Divorce is no laughing matter but he sure separated my intense love for Star Wars with that horrendous puke of a prequel. I know this sounds pathetic but the prequels were probably in the top 3 let downs in my life. Not only did I purchase hundreds of dollars worth of Episode 1 action figures, I stood in line for that mess.

I hope Disney can start new and create the experience of a fresh new story. I never understood what was the factor of Lucas losing his initial creativity and turning from storytelling to technology.

Go and read some books on filmmaking in Hollywood, you might find out a few things. For instance try reading about all the dead cert winners that have never got the green light, films that for one reason or another don't get made due various factors, usually studio politics.

So just saying audience satisfaction and studio profits drive films into production is very naive, if it was the case then we'd have seen sequels to the likes of Independance Day long ago :slap

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

You sound like a frustrated person. Never the less I don't think anyone cares. So much water has passed under that bridge I am not even sure what your point was or whether or not anyone should care.

I believe I'll err on the side "not caring".

The reason why there so many movie remakes it's because Hollywood is too afraid to do something different. They figure if there's some interest already established they can make their money back and then some. As much as I dislike the new Star Wars movies at least they were somewhat original. George Lucas really should have started out with Anakin as an adult, and showed more of him being Darth Vader. We are told how powerful Darth Vader is but yet see so little. You can argue that the Clone Wars cartoon shows this , it would have been better as a movie.
