Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Honestly I'd like for all the history lessons to end and to see uncharted territory

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'm sick of the Clone Wars stuff, they should end the show and do a new animated series that takes place right after ROTJ, since the movies will probably pick up 30 years after ROTJ it gives them quite a bit of material to do.

This only works if they kill Star Wars Detours before it does too much damage.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

As I said in the closed thread, I think this would be a good vehicle for a Sam Jackson led cast to do a Clone Wars era live action film.

Mace, Ki Adi and some other Jedi. Throw in another big actor or 3 as Quilon Vos, another Jedi and the lead bad guy and it could be really cool. To keep it away from the core story just don't have Obi-Wan or Anakin and you're ok.

Not sure though how you break those jedi away from the clones however. Or maybe 1 or 2 of the "7" are clones. IDK.

If you wanted to cast all new Jedi you could also do this post Order 66 with the 7 Jedi up against the clones. That might be cool.

I think one of the stand alone films that Disney are planning could be a live action version of the animated clone wars film, though the time to have done that was within a few years of the release of RotS.

Whilst Sam Jackson led would definately drive the quality of any film above that of what we saw with AotC, would it still be as popular now that most people are looking forward to a Hamill, Fisher and Ford led sequel trilogy?

Personally if any Jedi's story needs to be expanded on its either Ki-Adi Mundi or Plo Koon. A tv film that chronicled their exploits during the clone wars that tied in with their death scenes in RotS would interest me, though i can't see Disney paying out the cost for relatively low returns.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

At some point if Disney can't get a director to actually sign on to make this film it'll have to be pushed to 2016.

:panic: :panic: :panic:

Scary. ;)

Although, I was just thinking the other day, is it really Star Wars without George? :dunno

ESB and RotJ were just fine without him helming it. And from what I understand, Gary Kurtz is the man that made SW what it is.

Kurtz, Kirschner, McQuarrie, and the many people behind the camera and the cast in front of the camera are what "made Star wars what it is". George Lucas is probably the luckiest fluke in history. :lecture

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Oh, for sure.

And I think the list can grow even longer...

The young & crazy hippie wizards at a fledgling ILM
Ben Burtt (Sound Design)
Gloria Katz & Willard Huyck (uncredited script doctors on ANH)
Lawrence Kasdan (TESB script)
John Barry/Norman Reynolds (Production/Set Design)
Stuart Freeborn (Makeup)
John Mollo (Costumes)
Marcia Lucas (Editing)

We're lucky for Jaws. If Williams hadn't scored that film the previous year Lucas would have probably stuck a soundtrack like THX-1138 on Star Wars.

Well to be fair I did say "and the many people behind the camera and the cast in front of the camera". But you're right. Kasdan and Burtt, at the very least, do deserve a specific mention.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'd just narrow the list down to Kurtz. If you've read the original drafts for "The Star Wars" or "Journal of the Wills" or "The Adventures of the Starkiller," then you know Kurtz helped George trim the fat and focus the story and transform it from a straight up ripoff of "The Hidden Fortress."

But all those people you named are of course responsible for making "Star Wars" what it became. I'd say McQuarrie is right up their with Kurtz for ultimately giving the movie its look and feel. I'm not sure why the prequels deviated so much from that aesthetic....
