Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I love JW, but I doubt he would be interested to be honest.

Not sure if it's a lack of interest as much as a "I'm getting too old for this sorta thing." And without George's direct involvement and some young whippersnappers taking over the franchise, I'm not sure if the project is as enticing as it might have been for KotCS....

I googled that Giacchino fellow. Of all those movies he's scored, only "The Incredibles" theme is memorable to me :dunno I hope they can blend some of the classic themes from the original into this with new music well. "The Force" theme and any themes for returning characters would be great. Not sure if someone else could blend those as seamlessly into new work as the original composer can. I love the PT soundtrack. AotC is the weakest/most redundant but it's pretty great still.

Glad JJ got the gig! And I don't care what you guys say, I hope he keeps using those lens flares! I think they're awesome and they recall the cinematography of movies like Raiders, Ghostbusters and Die Hard!

Ben Affleck was also in the running, which would have been a great choice as well.

I can also see Jon Favreau doing a good job.

Hell, almost anyone could do a better job than Lucas did with the Prequels!

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

LA Times, Deadline Hollywood and MTV are running the story. It's real. JJ is directing.

He directed Trek as if he really wanted to be on a SW film. He openly said so in the director's commentaries. But SW has a 'house style' I hope he conforms to. I'd love to see him take this chance to bring back some real model making and physical effects work.

Giacchino wrote a single track for the end credits of Cloverfield called 'Roar', a great love letter to the Toho monster film soundtracks. Worth a listen. He can emulate Williams. I'm sure there's going to be a day soon where JW says "I'm too old for this sh-t".

What will be interesting is what happens to Trek now that he's probably burned his bridge at Paramount. Who will direct Trek 3?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Has the JJ Abrams thing been confirmed?

Nope....

I don't understand Hollywood politics. Would him doing this movie/these movies ruin his chances of working with Paramount again? I can see him not being able to make new original movies with other companies, but he didn't create ST or SW. He should be entitled to direct both and work with whichever studio owns the rights.

I think it is obvious (to me at least), whoever writes the music, that it will utilize JW themes. Prolly in much the same way that later Harry Potter movies also used a few of JW's Potter themes.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

This is going to be the busiest thread on the board for the next week (at least). Good luck keeping up.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

As I said earlier... he's hit or miss... so, not sure how I feel about it...
:(

Hit:
MI:3
MI:4
Super 8
Lost
Fringe

Miss:
Armageddon
Cloverfield
Star Trek

I know he's only directing this time, but I'm sure he'll be involved in writing to some extent...
I wasn't too crazy about Star Trek... I think it missed the boat IMO... but hey... could've been worse, right?
:dunno

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Kennedy is the Exec Producer. She has a script. JJ is still finishing up Trek 2. He may not have time to do re-writes. He might just have to show up and direct.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

This is possibly the best news we could've received as far as directors go. I'm officially excited now. :panic:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Abrams can make people have emotions.

It'd be nice to see a Star Wars movie again with human emotions.

I loved Star Trek! Guess he can't make us all happy...

Exactly...I don't think whether you liked the film or not it can be categorized as a "miss". I think it was fairly widely received by audiences as a decent film, and I absolutely loved it...and I grew up on Star Trek TOS.
