Are me and jye the only ones here with sons that were the same age as we were when the OT came out? jye what'd your boy think of TFA? Did it finally get him into SW or is he still all about Marvel?

Well,

My son is into a great deal of many things because my family is into many things.

I keep him busy with movies, technology, computers, music, medicine, taekwondo, light boxing, hockey and vehicle repairs.

But yeah, he loves all of my crazy movies and collectibles. :lol

He's not afraid of any creatures that's for certain.

Oh, I forgot to answer your question lol.

He loved it!

WIN!

My 9 year old daughter absolutely loves Rey, a heroine who couldn't have come at a better time to give girls a genuinely cool hero as an alternative to Twilight's Bella, Catniss, the Divergent chick, or any given Disney Princess.

No Furiosa?

:horror

Few more thoughts on TFA:

Missed opportunity to have some cool bounty hunters like IG-88 (doesn't age) being after Han instead of those forgettable baddies.

I take it "Kanjiman" is the new Jabba.

It would've been cooler if Rey's popsicle speeder bounced up and down like Luke's.

They made it too stiff when she was mounting and dismounting it.

Having it move (bounce) would've made it seem more real.

I think my favorite thing from this movie after the first teaser and now having seen the movie a week ago and having time to dwell on it is BB-8. Cute design. This is my son at the Disney store after having left the gadget shop and watching a demo of the Sphero BB-8. He loved that thing!

He may now own that hat. My first TFA merchandise purchase!

I was thinking of getting the Sphero. BB8 was so damn cute

I think they're saving a lot of stuff for Episode VIII

Wish they didn't tease Reys mystery past so damn much only to not complete that sub-plot in this movie. I get it what with movies setting up sequels nowadays but OT & PT didn't set up mysteries only to not answer them until later movies. There were things to be carried over but things you knew like Vader was alive and could return (done here again) and Departing to rescue Han and Anakin would be trained ect... But they didn't keep you in the dark like this. Again I understand why they did it but I don't like it as drawing close attention to her past and not revealing her past makes the movie feel incomplete.

I'm hoping once the trilogy is finished that the story will flow and things will all be revealed and make sense but I really hope they don't draw out her parentage and tease it until the third movie as by that point it if it's a lame payoff like her being Leias daughter or something then it'll be too long teased for such a similiar to Kylo outcome and would taint the overall narrative.

Imagine if she was sensed to be force-sensitive by Kylo and had Jedi abilities unlocked but not the visions and family mystery. The end would be her seeking training rather than seeking her possible father. It would've ended like the others with the setup for the sequel and her sub-plot would wrap up for the movie (discovering the force and finding a path) while moving forward but without a mystery.
No matter who her family turns out to be by doing it this way they're gonna have people formulate theories and then when all but one of those (or none) turn out to be true those fans will be disappointed.

I wanted the BB-8 Sphero but while waiting for it to go up for order I was able to rationalize how utterly boring it would be to play with after about a week's time. My son is at an age where he loves things for a day and then he's over it. I was happy to see him smiling ar to ear as it ran circles around him.

Tech/gadget/game stores and let you mess with them before buying. I highly suggest playing with it there to get it out of your system before buying one blind.

:exactly:

For my son's needs, the Sphero, while cute, does get boring and is too small for the price and very annoying that it needs a phone/tablet/app and charging, plus he's soundless without the damn phone/tablet.

Target/Hasbro BB8 while slower and his head moves too much, is great because no charging (just change the batteries) AND more importantly comes with his own remote AND makes BB8 sounds while standing still right from his body AND is bigger AND is less expensive!

Take that Sphero!

The PT and his absence in this movie will do that to you. That's where I'm at too:lol

:lol

Since jedi seem to breed jedi by default why is it forbidden for them to have sexual relations and to have children? They want to limit their number? They solely rely on jedi spontaneously arising from non-jedi parents?

Attachment is forbidden. Look what happened to Anakin when he had kids.....

R2 was fine in the PT for me. he had to have met Obi-Wan previous to ANH at some point. Probably woulda preferred it if he wasn't introduced in TPM buts later though.

His Jet boots were inconsistent though

I just like the fact that when you type Admiral in Google the first thing that pops up is Ackbar instead of any real world military Admirals, you know, the ones who fought in real battles! :lol
