I agree with DiFabio, everything is obviously set for a sequel and it ends with a clear cliffhanger.
ANH is pretty self contained.
Originally, Vader was to be exploded by Han's shot.
Originally, Vader was to be exploded by Han's shot. Would have seemed a bit of a simple death with little attachment to the killer. Not sure what possessed a sequel (to save Vader for) when myth has it that no one liked George's little movie.
Yikes:
"I don’t know how Abrams believed he ****ed things up. Maybe the film didn’t move fast or smoothly enough. Maybe it didn’t make sense. Maybe Lucasfilm wanted to save stuff for sequels. But Abrams (or Kathleen Kennedy) clearly did believe he ****ed things up, as hasty fixes were obviously deployed in production and post production to rebuild the story. The result is a movie cobbled together out of multiple versions of the script (see The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens for more) and even of the production footage. When you watch the movie, you can occasionally feel that something just isn’t right. I guarantee you that J.J. Abrams feels it too."
I love how Luke goes from innocent farmboy to powerful and wise Jedi.
And I love how Leia goes from innocent virginal princess to total sexpot slave girl.
They just don't write like that anymore.
Do you love how Han goes from swinging scoundrel to bumbling bland bloke?
Yikes
Yes. All the swingers -- Lando included -- become bland blokes. Watch Lando at the end party. No rhythm.
inb4 someone points out EPIII style Vader and Chewie
