Star Wars: The Force Awakens (12/18/15)

I think my favorite thing from this movie after the first teaser and now having seen the movie a week ago and having time to dwell on it is BB-8. Cute design. This is my son at the Disney store after having left the gadget shop and watching a demo of the Sphero BB-8. He loved that thing!

He may now own that hat. My first TFA merchandise purchase!

Wish they didn't tease Reys mystery past so damn much only to not complete that sub-plot in this movie.

At least we actually got to see Luke at the end. If Peter Jackson directed The Force Awakens the last shot would just be Luke opening his eye and that's it.

That's one thing I like about Star Wars, no cliff hangers, no unanswered questions and no sequel bait. Other than Darth Vader spinning off in his wrecked TIE Fighter, there are no loose ends. The story could have ended right there and stand on it's own. The Rebels won and the Empire lost, Luke will probably go off on some crazy smuggling adventures with Han and Chewie. The End.

I just like the fact that when you type Admiral in Google the first thing that pops up is Ackbar instead of any real world military Admirals, you know, the ones who fought in real battles!

That's one thing I like about Star Wars, no cliff hangers, no unanswered questions and no sequel bait. Other than Darth Vader spinning off in his wrecked TIE Fighter, there are no loose ends. The story could have ended right there and stand on it's own. The Rebels won and the Empire lost, Luke will probably go off on some crazy smuggling adventures with Han and Chewie. The End.

If TFA was the end of SW then you could easily assume that Kylo, Hux, Phasma, etc., all just died in the Starkiller blast (we don't even see them tumbling through space like Vader) and then Snoke is left with nothing while Luke can rebuild the Jedi Order through Rey.

Nope, the officers said that Hux was leaving then the next shot is him, still on Starkiller base receiving orders from Snoke to grab Kylo. The planet then explodes. We don't see them escape nor is any reference made to them being successful in getting out in time. We assume they were but only because there's another movie coming.

C'mon. If you were watching it and Episode 8 and the cast wasn't announced, you (nor I) wouldn't assume they were all dead. Luke is literally a cliff hanger moment too, nothing like a celebration where everyone is all smiles getting medals for a job well done.

I'd agree about Phasma though. I don't see how she could have possibly gotten out of the trash compactor (if we're to take Han's word/implication).

What was wrong with R2 in the PT?

The end of Attack of the Clones and the beginning of Revenge of the Sith are what is wrong with PT R2. Flying around and holding his own against battle droids added no excitement to the films. I just could shake my head and face palmed hard. He didn't do anything in the originals besides starship repairs, galactic navigation assistance, or talk to computers. He's astromech, not a battle droid. In the PT's defense, R2's intro in TPM is an awesome action scene and pretty intense. Also it has R2 acting as an astronomical mechanic in a fun and exciting moment. The action surrounded him. He didn't have to become an action star.

EDIT - I forgot. R2 shocked Teebo with his taser in RotJ. Little jerk. BB-8 would never zap such a cute critter

I agree with DiFabio, everything is obviously set for a sequel and it ends with a clear cliffhanger.

ANH is pretty self contained.
