I liked the rathtars and the gangs because it was Abrams and Kasdan daring to do something new in SW. It fit the "1986" motif (Critters mixed with Audrey II) and was a fun sequence.

The things I wish were different:

1. Only having plain TIE's and X-Wings. Even Rogue One introduced U-Wings and TIE Strikers. Every SW sequel added new fighters on both sides except TFA. That was disappointing.

2. Not having a single named bad guy die. Kylo, Phasma, Snoke, Hux, Unkar Plutt, and the two gang leaders. *Every single one of them* had to live to fight another day? Come on. Phasma and/or Hux (and at least one of the gang leaders) should have gotten taken out in spectacular fashion. There would still have been plenty to return in future episodes (in addition to all the new villains I'm sure they'll introduce.)

3. I know Abrams wanted Maz to be a puppet and they simply couldn't work it out in time but still, regardless of the reason she does stick out as being the only CG castle patron.

And that's pretty much it. Still love the movie, though it does feel a bit expendable after RO. RO + OT = All the SW I'll ever need.

Well, the main baddie did get taken out if you consider Starkiller base a baddie lol.

But why on earth would they hire the most kinetic martial arts actors on the planet just to make them stand in a tight hallway and do nothing!

That is a big wtf moment.

Remove these 4 scenes:

1. Rathtar
2. Maz climbing the table interrogating Finn.
3. Finn head knodding joke with Han
4. Phasma dropping the shields so easy

Then insert another Falcon escape quality scene during the 3rd act and this movie would improve tremendously.

1. Tone down Rey. As is she is good at absolutely everything and is hard for the audience to relate to.
2. Switch the actors for Finn and Poe. Gives Finn a much needed edge for a trained killer who just recently defected.
3. Pop a couple explanations in to have bits of the story make sense. How Han and Chewie found the Falcon randomly at a convenient time. How Poe made it back to the resistance base. A few basics about the resistance and first order. Why R2 randomly woke up when convenient to give the rest of the map.
4. Ditch Starkiller base. It was a beat too far taken from a New Hope.
5. Max von Sydow's character should have been someone we knew. Wedge maybe? An elderly Mon Momtha? Also it should have been explained who he was and why he had the map.

Having Return Of the Jedi be the saga's conclusion and not even making an Episode 7 would improve TFA tremendously.

I agree with a bunch of this. 1 to have Rey, just go from a regular person to mind bending so fast did a disservice to Luke. 2 Starkiller base, did we really need another deathstar? 3 Poe needed more screen time. Him getting ejected from the Tie and not looking for BB8 himself seems like a cop out being that the droid was so important. 4 Von Sydow should have been a character from Rebels, Ezra or Kaanan. That would have been sweet. They did not even mention them in RO.

You're on fire. Would rep this aswell if I could.

DiFabio also makes an excellent point.

Though I admit that Carrie's passing does make me lean toward wanting the ROTJ celebration to be the end of everyone's story. I'm still glad for the sequel trilogy though. It's fun to watch those old interviews of Mark and Carrie from 1983 where they discuss coming back decades later and passing the torch to their kids and then actually seeing it finally play out on screen before our eyes. Sharing that moment with kids of my own made it extra memorable.

Watching Jedi Master Luke light up his saber for the first time will be a HUGE moment so hopefully they don't blow it.

Think about the last time we saw Luke holding a lit lightsaber, him igniting one again is going to make grown men cry.

At least you and I wlll admit it when it happens. :yess:

mfw Jye and Khev find out Luke never uses a lightsaber in Episode 8 and instead has a cute pet owl.

Luke went insane after ROTJ, he might even have Twileks in slave bikinis in his temple basement so owl ownership might not be too far off.

Dude doesn't even care about the Republic anyways or else he wouldn't went into hiding allowing the Republic to get blown to pieces.

What is Leia even going to say to him.

Hey thanks for hiding out dear brother, btw all the planets were wiped out 100 X worse than what the Empire did 32 years ago.

The First Order is even more powerful without Palpatine, how did the Republic even allow them to build Starkiller base anyways.

Were they busy settting up a drug trade with the Ewoks to allow it to happen.

The first order raised taxes on a planet to such an extent that they just took over. Then told the republic that they were doing repairs to all of the planets airconditioners and refrigerators. By the time the republic knew what they were really up to they had destroyed a planet.
