Multiple planets are destroyed yes but the Republic Fleet is orbiting the Capital and you see it completely annihilated by the blast wave after the planet is hit:

That little splosion 3rd laser down from top, the shorter laser.

I guess that is their fleet, well i'll be damned, I thought that was a smaller planet.

People should also remember that the Republic (which we saw destroyed) and the Resistance (which Leia commanded) are two different entities.

But why are they different, what happened in those 32 years?

Ewoks danced their little hearts out for what.....for nothing!

Wait a second . . .

Starkiller base is covered in ****ing snow. If it can harness the power of a sun to destroy 4 planets and a fleet, how does that ****ing snow not melt!? HNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG

I want my money back.

Well we're talking star wars here not star trek.

SW nothing has to make sense, it just is.

Only a black hole can suck a sun like a vacuum cleaner.

But in SW so can starkiller base.

No crystals needed, solar power.

But what happens if there is no sun to be found, is the weapon inoperable?

Why didn't the republic just destroy starkiller base before it reached any sun?

Yeah, but it's established in Empire Strikes Back that you can freeze in the snow (killed a Taun Taun and almost killed Luke). In Revenge of the Sith it's established that you can be burned alive by barely touching a river of lava that will set you up in flames.

We have a snow "planet" that's entire surface is snow covered that has a metal base underneath that charges up from taking the energy out of the sun . . .

Unless the snow is a hologram, in which case why the hell was Han wearing his parka and Chewie complaining about being cold.

Holy crap! :thud:

Never noticed that before in my 20 viewings lol

TFA > ESB

:lol :yess:

Because thermal oscillator yo.

Why didn't the republic just destroy starkiller base before it reached any sun?

Because they didn't know it existed until it was too late yo.

While the starkiller base snow-cold part didn't bother me, starkiller base itself sucking on a sun plus the force on steroids does modernize what was pretty basic tech and spirituality in ANH and even ESB.

ANH everything is close enough to earth tech just with lasers and Luke's floating speeder is like our mag train.

Death Star, just a big laser.

The force was simply Obi-Wan giving Luke advise, it was just in Luke's head for all I know.

In TFA starkiller now can suck a sun dry while not destroying itself.

Force is now super busy and complicated, tug of war mind battles, very clear visions of the future and past, more so than Luke's ESB vision.

But honestly, whatever, i'm open for all of it as long as it's fun and entertaining.

Seeing that gif reminds me of something that bugged me, maybe I got it wrong, so hopefully you guys van enlighten me.

SW only faster than light travel is via hyperspace, right?
The Death Star has to close in to be in range of planets to destroy them, right?

How far away was Starkiller Base from the Republic's capital (was it still Coruscant? can't remember) and how far from those two was Takodana? Where they like, next to each other? Otherwise, how could the beams reach the capital so fast, and how could Finn and Solo see the beams shot from Starkiller Base?

Regarding Starkiller being a planet Poe's hologram showing Starkiller next to the Death Star had to be WAY off. Yes it was much bigger than the DS but based on that diagram it was far from planet sized. For instance in ROTJ when the Rebel Fleet approaches DSII you see that it is absolutely tiny compared to the forest moon behind it. So Starkiller would have been less than half the size of Endor.

Any questions from here on out i'm just going to answer with "It's been 32 years, it all makes sense". :lol

I actually always thought that they picked a snow planet to build the laser into in order to help cool the mechanisms and not have them melt or blow up every time they wanted to use the laser. Kinda like how server rooms have to stay at a cool temperature.

:dunno
