To me it is no different than the fact that most modern military units wear a variation of boots, cargo pants, and a thick collared shirt/jacket.

Its the same clothing that everyone would wear if they were to spend a lot of time outdoors in a variety of weather in which it would be subject to wear and tear. The military just wear it in a standardized and more formal way to designate it as a uniform.

They should've stuck with that Samurai pony tail.

They should have stuck with all that stuff. The Jedi looked cooler as samurai in all black as opposed to the weird robed monks they ended up being.

Imo, Anakin (Episode II and III) and Luke from ROTJ looked way cooler. Anakin's concept art for ROTS was even better (which Kylo Ren looks closer to sans mask oddly enough).

Hayden marching up those Jedi temple steps looked super bad ass, he might've sucked as an actor but Lucas was spot on with his eyes.

But black = bad.

Tell that to Batman Jye.

Or Blade, or da X-Men.

It wasn't just his acting. It was the whole concept. Anakin should have been a man in his mid 30s at least. Someone with a battle warn, manly look to him. Not a kid in his early 20s who looked younger due to boyish features and slightly effeminate mannerisms. The long, billowy hair didn't help this impression.

The REAL Anakin and Obi-Wan:

In my mind's eye it will always be these two who "fought in the Clone Wars."

They look lame as hell. :lol

They're featured in worse movies, but these are the superior looking bros.

Hot Toys when.

Originally Luke's black attire was the look of the Jedi Knight according to books and concept art in the early 80s. Obi-Wan and Yoda were just hermits. Obi-Wan was wearing the same clothes a moisture farmer living in a desert like Uncle Owen would wear.

Return of the Jedi contradicts that in the end however the minute Anakin pops up in the exact same clothes as Yoda and Obi-Wan.

In the 90s concept art for Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the Jedi were dressed in black. In all the art produced for the film, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon had black samurai looking outfits like Luke, some even with armor.

Somewhere down the line things changed and the Jedi ended up looking like a bunch of weirdo losers.

Wow that's a lot of good information, I ignored most of the prequel information after seeing TPM. Luke being dressed now like Ben makes sense seeing that it could be for nostalgic reasons or honoring obiwan

I meant SW only.

Well yeah that would've definately been better.

:lol

Said no Kardashian ever. :lol

Honestly I don't blame them, if I was a girl or gay I would only go black due to their superior muscle structure and 3 pair of shoes. .

Cool pic of young Guinness and Shaw. :rock

Yeah, that pic is a few years old but I've always liked it. For an even more accurate visual of what Obi-Wan would look like 20 years prior to ANH one only needs to watch the great Bridge on the River Kwai which came out in 1957.

Of course young folks who only want their heroes to look "kinda hawt" would prefer Hayden and Ewan. But prior to the PT I never pictured young Ben as some heart throb based on his character in the OT. Alec just didn't have the look nor did he convey that in any way.

As a kid I pictured Anakin looking like this.

I don't see how anyone could be fond of Sebastian Shaw. I always thought he was goofy in ROTJ. Not him as an actor obviously, but just what they did with Anakin/Vader. Goofy looking and sounding in the unmasked scene, goofy looking and cheesin' smiling as a Force ghost.

Should have gotten Prowse in there with deformity prosthetics like the Empire Strikes Back concept sketches when it was said that he fell into a nuclear reactor.

Prowse's eyes are almost there.

Prowse has a commanding physique but IMO his face doesn't convey the intelligence that I always envisioned Anakin/Vader to have. He comes across as more of a brute. I could never buy that he was responsible for JEJ's dialogue.

I'm not sure that I think Vader's disfigured face should have ever been shown. He was at his best when the mask WAS his face. I don't know anyone who was actually happy with how Shaw looked in the make-up but he's what we got and I do think that he made for a better unscarred Anakin than Hayden or Prowse.

Brody: What's that one?
Vader: What?
Brody: That one, there, on your arm.
Vader: Oh, uh, that's a tattoo, I got that removed.
Hooper: Don't tell me, don't tell me..."Padme."
[he roars with laughter]
