Maybe in your mind, but according to LFL they're canon.

Of course. All of a studio's movies are always "canon." Until they decide they're not. And since none of it is "real" then LFL's official company line in no way trumps what I prefer to accept and reject. I can pretty much guarantee you that George Lucas himself doesn't accept TFA as the true continuation of his story nor does James Cameron acknowledge anything past T2 (with the possible exception of Genysis but even that I'm sure he rejects in his heart of hearts.) Everything is subject to dismissal. All "canon" means is "these are the previous films that our new films will acknowledge." Which is fine, and the way all sequels work. But it doesn't mean the old films, or fans of the old films, have to accept the new stuff or pretend that it all fits when it obviously does not.

That's a pretty rigid view.

Only when a poorly linked sequel forces my hand. Which is always the thing. The sequel has to earn it. I can accept characters being played by multiple actors in some cases. When the old and young versions appear in the same movie for instance. Like Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, T2, or both TFA and RO having young versions of Rey and Jyn. When it is done in a single film then just the nature of it being a self-contained production gives it a uniformity that makes it easier to accept.

Does it apply to the Dark Knight Trilogy's Rachel?

I *hate* that the Rachels are so different between BB and TDK. A huge strike against Nolan and the trilogy for doing that. Probably one of the reasons I like BB the best of the three. I can appreciate TDK's quality but I'm always annoyed when I watch it because I really never believe that Maggie was the same girl that he interacted with in the first one.

Does every James Bond exist in a different universe?

Yep.

Rachel ain't the only thing that ruins the continuity of the Batman movies.

Reminds me of the Wampa / snowtrooper attack in ESB...just silly....
