Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

as problematic as the PT may have been, i know my life has benefited from them being there rather than having no Star Wars films at all. reach in and just let the ten year old within flourish... don't allow the eighty year old keep complaining about the kids on the lawn.

at least the PT's issues were somewhat interestingly organic with the best of intention... good or bad, there was a lot of heart... there was insight into an artist's process... an evolution (or devolution) we are privy to... i think the story behind the story is captivating (George falling victim to many of the technologies he helped create while losing sight of the story along the way)... it is like watching grandpa with a hot younger woman... not as interesting intellectually, but not hard on the eyes either. perhpas grandpa figures this out... perhaps she takes him for everything... but there is value in still having grandpa alive and living out loud.

:clap :goodpost:
Well said Automaton

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

There was no heart in the prequels. It was made by a man who doesn't understand human beings, and doesn't understand why humans re-act to stories.

That's evident by the prequels and his inability to listen to people who love him.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

don't mistake George's Emperor-like control for lack of heart... he is Anakin... lots of heart and good intent but at what result? Anakin wasn't evil... if anything, he wanted to prevent evil... but he also wasn't in touch with himself and didn't see the bigger picture which led to less than favorable results.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

That just makes it sadder, and makes me dislike the series more.

I don't think Lucas is a bad man...just a misguided, detached person with control over something people love.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Lucas forgot his film school roots. He fell so in love with the technology he forgot his instincts for telling a story.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

And just remember... Anakin went to the darkside for a chick. That would never happen if the prequels were made the way they shoulda been.

and as with evolution, aren't we forgetting the magic of being a child? the PT is adored by its corresponding generation of youth. i remember adults pissing all over ROTJ while i was absolutely enamored...

did he go for a chick, or did he go for himself? he thought that he should have control over things that simply are not controllable... he was arrogant. he didn't seem too concerned for his chick when he had her by the throat...

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

"I will do....whatever you ask," Anakin proclaimed as he surrendered himself to Sidious. "Just help me save Padme's life. I can't live without her. If she dies, I don't know what I will do."

I rest my case. And boy, what a pusssy.

(He was already well into the darkside when he was choking her.)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

as a child, i saw Aotc for what it was. crap. but after a few years the prequels lost any appel they once had. only TPM makes me feel somewhat nostalgic, but its pretty much unwatchable now.

i also grew up watching the OT when i was 5. we got the vhs set a year after it came out. and i watched them everyday. so i was hyped for all three films as a small child.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I will never watch 1 minute of the prequels ever again. The Vader/Anakin of the OT and the Vader/Anakin of the PT are two different entities IMO and nobody will ever change my mind.

Lucas wanted a tragic Anakin/Vader for the PT, and instead he gave us a pathetic weak pusssy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

So, i remain cautiously optimistic about these new ones. They seem to be doing everything right so far. (I do think it's funny how someone mentioned that they recognize Lucas's mistakes and are going the opposite direction... Seems to be true)

your quote "rests my case"... "If she dies, I don't know what I will do." it was the pain of losing his mother he didn't want to feel again. in my eyes, it wasn't a love story... it was a story of obsession, immaturity, arrogance, and selfishness.

i think Vader is a much more rounded character now... he is a b$tch. he was manipulated. he wasn't a bad guy, but became one.

Guys do things because of chicks all the time. :lol

Guys do, men don't!

:lecture

Anakin of the prequels was the perfect representation of the pussification of the modern male in today's society.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

It doesn't help that he was played by one of the worst actors of all time.

"I hate sand"

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Hayden's done other stuff - apart from 'Jumper'.. :lol

He was critically praised for his performance in 'Life As A House' - he got a Golden Globe for it.

The guy can act fine.. blame uncle George for using him like a marionette puppet. :huh

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I hate that Jedi battle in the arena.

Even kids find that lame so that argument goes out the window. :lol
