Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

reading through... being reminded of the "conveyor belt"... possibly my least favorite scene of the saga.

I remember seeing AOTC in theatres during belt scene and thinking,
"wow , George Lucas made a Mega Man movie" :slap

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

All of these reasons posted are good points, but honestly, AOTC is just such a flaming mess, it hardly seems worth the time and effort to pick it apart.

Agreed but that doesn't mean that it still isn't fun to appreciate the work of those who have taken the time to pick it apart. :D

Agreed, it made a fun read. Much more fun than I had watching it.

Fun Fact: My Wife, who only tolerates Star Wars, has actually watched AOTC (without me) more than any of the other movies. I still love her though. ;)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

After The Phantom Menace I was so thoroughly over Star Wars that I refused to watch Attack of the Clones. I remember coming out of The Salton Sea and sneaking into Attack of the Clones to see if it was any good. It was right before the big arena battle. I suffered through the rest of the movie, and I have to say when Yoda started jumping around like a squirrel with rabies I literally fell into a fit of laughter. I remember people looking at me like I was the biggest jerk, but I couldn't help it, I just kept on laughing. To this day I've never seen the film from start to finish. And even though I've scene Revenge of the Sith it's just as bad as the first two.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

The PT has it's good parts - not many, but they do exist. :)

As the old saying goes though - hindsight is 20-20, but the best thing is watching the old docos on the DVDs & observing all the passion & enthusiam the team had for such garbage ideas! :lol

Apart from the Ani/Padme interaction scenes, I still think a LOW point of AOTC was the end battle with Kermit & Count Dracula. All that bouncing around & Frank Oz trying to emote battle cries in a Muppet voice. :rotfl

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I haven't seen AOTC in a long time, but I seem to remember when OBi and Anakin jump on to the platform , while chasing Dooku, two troopers jump off with them. I know the ship is destroyed but the troopers seem to be clear of the explosion. We then see Anakin and Obi walk in and the troopers are gone. Am I remembering this right? What happened to the troopers?

Also, they were out of rockets and they couldn't shoot Dooku, but were they out of lasers??

I just googled it, you can see the troopers jump out along with Anakin and Obi -Wan and then turn around and get back on the ship!!! :slap Wtf??

That scene features some of the coolest details in the movie, IMO. If you watch that scene in motion you'll see one clonetrooper successfully jump onto the platform and the other falls back into the ship as it rocks violently.

Then as Obi and Ani run into the hangar you see the clone who made it standing on the corner of the ramp firing at the approaching ships before being shot himself. As the gunship itself explodes you see the remaining trooper fly out and fall to his death. It helps to watch it on as big a screen as possible. :)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I remember when Ep 1 was coming out and there was so much hype and buzz about it. The trailers looked excellent, and after years of no new SW, it was incredibly exciting. I do remember there were some odd comments made here and there from the SW camp, like they were trying to temper expectations. I remember they were (overly) emphasizing that they wanted to make these fun and appeal to a new generation of fans.

Anyway, I remember that tickets for Ep 1 went on sale weeks before, and I mentioned to my wife (GF at the time) that perhaps we should secure our tickets. She scoffed and said it probably wasn't necessary since there were so many showings scheduled. She was right. Opening weekend we went right in without a problem. When we finally watched the movie, I was so incredibly disappointed. It was truly worse than I could have imagined, and even more so because it caught me unawares. At least for Episodes 2 and 3 I knew what to expect. And even more terrible, I was mortified and embarrassed about it with my wife (who hadn't seen the OT at the time), who practically laughed at me saying, "THAT is what you've been obsessing about your whole life?!? LOL!" (I married her anyway! ;))

So yeah. Terrible. The designs are all great, and I love the worlds that have been created in the New Trilogy. But damn, those scripts needed some major fleshing out by someone who knew what they were doing.

Every SW fan should watch the Red Letter Media reviews:

https://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/

Whether you like the new movies or not, you can't deny he makes valid and objective points across the board.

And oh yeah, I remember reading somewhere (might have even been the Red Letter Media review) that they should have switched roles for when Anakin and Obi Wan chase after Zam. It should have been Anakin, the reckless one, to jump out the window and grab the assassin droid, and Obi Wan, the practical wiser one, to go get a ship. That alone would have done so much to further establish the characterization of these two.

I do remember watching all of TPM in the theater for the first time with the hopeful expectation that at any moment George would show he was still the man and blow me away. So I weathered the silliness and cheesy dialogue because ROTJ had that and was still awesome and satisfying.

But the moment Anakin said, "now THIS is pod racing," and "wooooooo!" during the explosive climax of the movie I think my mouth literally dropped open at the realization that it was NOT going to get better and that I had just witnessed the very best George could come up with.

I still loved the Darth Maul sequences but was bummed at how everything else turned out.

Any of you guys with distaste for the PT, have any fan edits. In paricular, L8WTR's? It helps a bit for me, and makes them a bit more palatable...

I thought this thread was about VII... :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

TPM has always been my fave PT film. There's lots to skip through, but the good bits redeem it ten fold.

You can't say that about the other two, even their good bits are forgettable - except for the Vader 'Frankenstein' scene.

That's some hilarious yet saaaad ****. :lol

Just like the Harmys are my go to for OT SW, L8WTR's PT edit is my got o for PT stuff... It's amazing what magic can happen by shifting this, cutting that, and adding those. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I love all Star Wars live action movies, no matter how cheesy. See, unlike a lot of you, I grew up with the prequels. I was pretty much the target demographic at the time, a little kid who only really cared about the visuals and lightsaber battles and what not. I can understand your distaste for the PT, but the complaining has gotten really old. Everything that can be said has been said. Why not just leave it at that and move along. I'm not trying to sound all butt hurt, but come on, at least admit you exaggerate somewhat. Anyways, STAR WARS EPISODE VII :yess:

If the discussion bothers you, don't participate. This is a place for discussion - which is sometimes ad nauseum. :lol

I've heard of PT edits before. While I do not have a desire to watch any of the PT again I'd be quite interested in watching an edited version. Where can these be found?

I can be persuaded to make you copies though for materials plus shipping. :goodpost:

Oh wait.. I can't... They are bluray and I don't have a blu burner. :(
