Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

so......the empire has been run out, scattered, fled, disbanded whatever.

they should form a network, get a secret base, maybe smuggle some pertinent information amongst each of their groups........formulate some kind of plan.......and ultimately try to overthrow the powers that be.

i would watch something like that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

The rebellion becomes the Empire, the Empire the rebellion.

Episode VII opens with a Star Destroyer flying overhead....being pursued by an even biggerererer ship called a Star Destroyer Destroyer which captures it in its vast docking bay.

....and a load of Rebel troopers burst through the door, one trips as he's coming through. Followed by Luke Skywalker dressed in his ROTJ outfit, although bursting at the seam's a little, wheezing worse than an asthmatic in a tobacco store. Yeah that could work :wink1:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I would love to see him back. He came out of the PT unscathed. Great actor. And he was always one of my favorite characters in the OT.

He pretty much is the Empire/Sith. If there was an entirely new baddie, would it really be Episode VII of a series or a new spin off?
There has to be some continuity of story, not just some of the original characters appearing.

umm..They were fighting the Empire? ..and the leader of the Empire is The Emperor?
Sure we didn't see him until the second movie, but he was an integral part of the OT.
And he saved Jedi from the teddies.
:dunno

Maybe he's not playing Palpatine at all in the new trilogy, but is his much better-natured older brother Turpentine?

His existence is implied, but his appearance isn't necessary.

He wasn't needed whatsoever in ANH. His minor appearance in ESB was just right to wet the chops. His prevalence in ROTJ served its apex.

I feel his character was justly flushed out in the PT and makes for his death in ROTJ an even better death.

But bringing him out for the New Trilogy screams of desperation, lack of creativity and to boot risks making him the primary character of the entire saga.

He's a great bad guy, but I think the more you play him up the more you take away from Vader.

I'm ready to move on. And frankly I'm ready to move on with the good guys too. Thats why I hope the core 3 die in VII with only Luke making reappearances as a ghost in 8,9.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Will Hayden Christensen be back as Anakin's force ghost? Fans would eat that up.

:monkey4

I'm trying to figure if Vader/Anakin works in this trilogy at all.

I'd love to see more Ewan as Obi-Wan's ghost but not at the expense of seeing more Hayden as Anakin.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

George is thinking " Yeah, not so easy it? This'll blow worse than my prequels."

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

VII-Obi, Anakin and Yoda return as force ghosts to Luke. Emperor appears as force ghost to tempt Luke to darkside.

VIII and IV- Luke is now force ghost to the new Jedi lead character. As the other characters had no direct tie to the new character they are no longer needed for the storyline.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

That would be pretty funny.

1. When faced with certain death and the death of his friends he refused to turn to the Darkside.

2. Why would Palpatine think he could persuade him as a non-threatening force ghost?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Yeah, being a "non-threatening" ghost Obi-Wan didn't have any influence did he?

"Strike me down, I'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." Just hollow words. :lol

I'm sure with some decent writing it could be feasible that Luke drifts a bit. Of course, not all the way to the darkside.

If everything was written as your preconceptions of a character would behave that would make for a pretty dull character.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I think as Luke is about to be struck down an ethereal lightsaber can deflect his enemy's attack. Confused, he looks up to see Anakin's ghost.

"Do you want to live forever," says Anakin with a wink as he disappears.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

You make some good points (progmatinee). But I don't see the the set up and emotional gravitas (which certainly played in Obiwan's favor) being established with how Palpatine was written/acted. Besides which it would make the pivotal moments of Return of the Jedi ring somehow hollow.

Maybe it could work. I just don't think so.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I truly think Vader WILL be back in some form, maybe not the original Anakin Vader but another one- he is so iconic to SW the temptation will be too great them to resist..but they should

I have a feeling that this might be closer to the mark. That they'll try and invent a new Vader (I think Grevious was a half assed attempt at this) or what I fear is that we'll see Luke be more of a Vader like character from all of his battles and somehow throughout require the Vader like mask.

More on this rumor:

The rumor comes to us from Latino Review. They’re reporting that Tuesday’s rumor, of actor Ian McDiarmid coming back for Star Wars Episode VII, is true but that he won’t come back as a clone. He’ll come back as Force ghost just as Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are seen at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Their story continues by saying not only does the Emperor return as a ghost, but that before his demise, he was training another apprentice. An apprentice who, one would assume, had been laying in wait to reveal himself to the Jedi.

And with that, the story of Episode VII has begun to be revealed.

What do you think about this rumor? Does it sound plausible? If this does in fact happen in the film, is it a satisfying way to bring back the Sith?

So the new apprentice was waiting since the end of ROTJ and chooses whatever timeframe the new one is in to return and strike at Luke.

Wasn't that the basic idea behind Mara Jade? That she was going after Luke for killing the Emperor? Could Abrams and Co. be retooling the basics behind Mara Jade for a new character? I doubt they'd actually use her as is...

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Why would the Emperor take on a new apprentice to take on one Jedi?

(I am just interested to hear other's thoughts)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

He wouldn't, why would he? The OT seemed to give the impression that Vader had it all locked up with Luke and that they'd kill him and continue the Sith rule.

The only thing that'd make sense is that Palpatine was attempting to restart the Sith themselves and build his ranks although even that would need serious explanation.
