Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

in the PT, the Jedi were indeed "monks"… flawed, naive monks that were brought down by the cunning of one man. Luke went beyond both Obi Wan's and Yoda's advice / guidance… he didn't conform to their narrow-mindedness and prevailed utilizing his own judgement. i wouldn't count on Luke feeling trapped by any former "Jedi Guidelines".

:goodpost::exactly:
This.

You get it.

Yoda and Obi-wan ( and by extension, Qui-gon) Wanted Luke to confront and kill vader.

Luke wanted to redeem him.

the path of the old jedi way would have led luke astray, Turning him into the NEXT vader.

Luke HIMSELF realises this, and spares Vader, telling the emperor he is a jedi, like his father before him, and refuses to do it.

THAT MOMENT, RIGHT THERE. is when three MAJOR things happen.

1) the Old jedi order dies.

2) Luke FULLY becomes a Jedi, and the FIRST jedi of the New order.

3) Anakin Skywalker's redemption begins.

Palps. It makes sense to me.

CLose. Most people missed it, but Palpatine tells us who Anakin's father was in ROTS.

Palp's mentor. Darth Plageus.

" He was So powerful, he could even influence the mediclorians to Creat life"

as he speaks this, he slowly turns and looks RIGHT AT ANAKIN. giving him a look that says " I'm talking about YOU, My dear boy"

I think you do a disservice to Quigon. If anything Quigon is the prototype of the kind of Jedi Luke would later emulate.

So the big question this brings up is, Who is Anakin's father/ Luke's Grandfather?

In the EU novel Darth Plagueis, it's revealed that he was doing experiments with the Force/midi-chlorians.

Quote from Wookiepedia:
Around 42 BBY, the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis and his Sith apprentice Darth Sidious were able to shift the Force and tip it towards the dark side after months of intense meditation. Plagueis, who sought to manipulate the midi-chlorians—the microscopic lifeforms that lived symbiotically within all living things and allowed those with sufficient numbers of midi-chlorians to touch the Force—and gain power over life and death, was able to resurrect the Bith Darth Venamis whom he had been using as a test subject for years using only the power of the Force. Using his newfound power to heal his own body, Plagueis decided to take his powers further and reached out to the midi-chlorians across the galaxy in order to gain dominance over them, but the Force resisted his efforts and refused. In response, the midi-chlorians acted of their own accord and conceived a child with the Human slave Shmi Skywalker.

Quite possibly. I derive my thoughts on this from Obi-wan and yoda telling Luke he needs to confront and kill Vader. and we already know obi-wan has been talking with Qui-gon the way luke has been talking to Obi-wan. As it's what Obi-wan and yoda wanted, one can infer that Qui-gon is of the same mentality.

HOWEVER, I happen to agree with your supposition.

I also think we see Living Obi-wan talking to Qui-gon a few times in the OT.
We know that no one but Luke can see and hear dead yoda and Obi-wan, or people would have reacted to them at the ewok party in ROTJ. It stands to reason that speaking out loud is not nessacary to talk to them, as they are one with the force.

Several times Obi-wan seems to look away, and react to things that aren't there in ANH.

Qui Gon brought Jar Jar back which led to the fall of the Republic and the Siths' rise to power. All the while, "I feel nothing." Horrible Jedi.

Close? :lol Who made you the gospel writer of the Star Wars? If it doesn't jive with your view, others are wrong? :cuckoo:

Just because Plageus could create life using the force doesn't automatically mean he created Anakin. I think you "assume to much".

Palps learned what he wanted from Plageus and killed him. Palps created Anakin. Simple and just as plausible (and makes far more dramatic sense) than having some character we never see on screen be his creator.

Except for two things.

1) it's established in the EU that plageus did it, but had no idea WHERE in the galaxy the life was created. He placed his faith in the force eventualy leading them to meet.

2) the PT in particular has LOADS of things happen off-screen that we never see, and are only told about in passing that are fairly important. As i said earlier, they suffer terribly from Telling instead of Showing.

Aayla Secura. She's a celibate monk. Sure thing.
