Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

So looks like GL will have influenced the new movie afterall :panic:

SHH:

It surprised many last year not only when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, but when they announced that a fresh new trilogy of Star Wars films, as well as standalone movies, would be following. Apparently these movies were already in the cards as George Lucas's son, Jett, revealed in an interview with Flicks and the City (via Mashable).

"We knew probably a year prior (to the purchase) he had started writing and king of researching, starting his whole little process," Lucas said about his father. "About half way through that process was when the idea of selling to Disney came up...It's nice because he's happiest when he's writing and doing something with his time."

He also mentioned Lucas was very torn on working on the film and letting it go, comparing him to a parent sending their kid off to college. "I knew that he was very torn on the matter, he was like a kid who had turned 18 and was ready to leave the house. Every parent has wanted to let their children go but they want to hold on to you."

When asked what he thinks will happen in the new trilogy, Lucas boasted "I already know what happens. I'm happy with what's going to happen."

Lucas also revealed that, contrary to previous reports on the matter, George has been "constantly talking" to director J.J. Abrams about the new film.

Set to feature a script by Michael Arndt, Star Wars: Episode VII is rumored to focus on a new generation of heroes and could feature appearances by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford in older incarnations of their beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I honestly don't care how anybody feels about this, George Lucas involved or not, I am just ecstatic that there is going to be a new Star Wars movie on the big screen.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Star Trek:TNG at first let Gene make decisions about stories - and then realized that was a mistake.

Disney/Bad Robot know better than to let Lucas make big decisions. This is like getting the Pope's blessing. It's largely symbolic just so the public at large think it's a "real" Star Wars film.

I'm primarily holding JJ Abrmas, Michael Arndt, and Kathleen Kennedy responsible for the final film - good or bad.

I sincerely hope so.....................GL may have some good ideas on the plot but he must not get near the script....:rotfl

:lol I think you misunderstood my zero tolerance for rude bastards as agoraphobia. Used to go to WonderCon all the time until it moved.

There was talk at this year's WonderCon that there would be two a year going forward with a return to SF! Not sure though. And yeah, my memory was foggy on that one.

Understandable about SDCC. :exactly:

This is probably the best thing I've read. Glad to hear that the OT stars are sounding more like cameo appearances. I really didn't want alot of the movies weight on them, but I don't mind a little passing of the torch.

The folks at Moscone West (where WonderCon was held) said the move was permanent, and even suggested Big Wow, at the Convention Center in San Jose (their competition), as the alternative for future Bay Area comic conventions. :(

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Oh wow! Well, I knew you would know...

Wish I coulda done more WCs up there though. :(

Yeah, HUGE bummer. Guess I'll foolishly hold out hope that at some point they might return. While Big Wow is fun, it's not the platform WonderCon was and I'll definitely miss spending a day in San Fran. :(

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

something is coming !! :)

https://news.moviefone.com/2013/10/09/new-star-wars-trilogy-announcement/

Right now, the title of "Star Wars: Episode VII" is ... "To Be Determined." But if rumors hold true, Disney may announce the title, as well as some of the cast, sometime in the next few days.

Ali Arikan, the film critic for Dipnot TV, posted a tantalizing "Star Wars" rumor on Twitter yesterday:
As ComicBook.com pointed out, Arikan has a history of being right about "Star Wars" news.

Arikan followed up that tweet with another one saying that the announcement would be in the form of a teaser trailer and feature Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. He also backed up his claim by noting that his source was the same one who told him that Ewan McGregor would be returning to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi and that Saoirse Ronan had auditioned for the film, which is being directed by J.J. Abrams.

With New York Comic Con taking place this weekend, the timing seems to work out.

Still, there are so many "Star Wars" rumors floating around, including that Benedict Cumberbatch may join the cast and that there might be a Wookiee. We'll take it all with a big grain of salt, but we'll keep our eyes peeled ...
