Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread
Since Lucas doesn't consider the EU to be canon why did he ever give a crap what they did in the books? Why did he care who they killed?
Becuase the " Lucas dosn't consider the EU to be canon" Is a fanboy misnomer. It's taking something he said, and running with it, twisting it to suit the needs and wants of the OT purists. Kinda Like Republicans and The Bible/Christian Religion.
What he ACTUALY said was As he sees it, there are three "Levels" or "tiers" of Star Wars.
There is " HIS CREATIONS" Which is the films. These are His creations. these are the " Official vision" of the movies as he sees them.
This is First Tier Canon, and can Trump all other tiers.
One step beyond that is the "Visual media" he is not DIRECTLY involved in. This includes the HOliday special, CLone wars, etc. This is part of the universe. He does have a hand in them, and is more or less aware of what's going on, how it effects and gives approvals on what can and can't be done.
This is Second Tier canon, and Trump Itself, and written media
The Last Tier is Written media. Comics, Noves, and Etc. This is where he has invited other people to play in his universe. it IS part of the story, and he IS aware of the MAJOR events, and REquires approval for ( as well as suggests) big changes to the universe. Killing Chewbacca is an example. That was Approved, amd more or less picked BY Lucas to happen.
Written media Tier Can't overwrite any other, and is frequently retconned by the other two.
