Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Stuff:

"Arndt is said to have focused on the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), with the original trilogy heroes taking on supporting roles. Abrams, however, wanted Episode VII to focus on the classic trio of characters, so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off. The new characters, the offspring, will now be in supporting roles, according to these sources, and take center stage in Episode VIII and IX. Some characters have disappeared from the Arndt script and new ones are being drafted.

So with Abrams and Kasdan now overhauling the script, that means many of the actors who had met and auditioned have been nixed for various reasons. For example, one actor who met with Abrams in the fall before the overhaul was Mud breakout star Tye Sheridan. But sources say that at this stage, there is no need for such young actors and thus Sheridan will not be involved. In another case, one part that was initially conceived as a 20-year old male is now being rewritten to be a 40-year old."

The 40-year-old character is one we've heard about before when rumors spread that Abrams and Co. wanted a Matt Damon in Elysium-type. Could that be the role that Fassbender, 36, is said to have met with Abrams about in December?

Though we got a nice sendoff in ROTJ, I like that idea better. It'll help bridge the trilogies.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Screw it, the entire trilogy doesn't have to be about them but if even just one of the films is, I will happily go along with that. Not like they're gonna get any younger to save them for future installments.

The big 3 simply MUST be in Ep7.

MUST.

After that - they're going to homogenize it into oblivion anyway, so at least one film has the potential to be even semi memorable. :lol

I just hope Mark, Carrie, and Harrison want to be involved in this in the first place. :lol

Harrison might not give a ****, but the rest do. (and i think secretly Ford might be into it)

You know, Hamill is iconic to Star Wars, and it will be cool to have him "there", I'm glad hes coming to the party regardless of how he looks, but I think it would just be awesome for him if he ends up being ripped and in shape and just pulls off a big, " look at me, *****es" and surprises the **** out of everyone.

yes i really hope he does..this is his huge come back

Still say kill at least 2 if not 3 of Han, Leia and Luke with Luke being the only one to be in the next films as a jedi ghost.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Has there been any word (besides from his own camp) about Billy Dee being in the film-- if only for a quick nod cameo? He's not one of the "big three" but he was always my favourite (next to Han) and I'd love to see him on film as the character once more.

Moar:

Bad *** Digest:

My sources tell me that the focus of the story has changed in a big way, that it's a whole new set of characters being followed than in the Arndt script. I don't want to say much more than that, because I just don't know how in flux things are and I'm sick of being misquoted on this stuff, but it seems like there's a complete overhaul. Top to bottom. This isn't a rewrite, this is a completely different movie with different main characters.

That's me back in October, talking about the change from Michael Arndt's script to one written by JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan. At the time some people thought Abrams and Kasdan were just doing a new draft, but Badass Digest readers knew otherwise. And now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it, saying that the new script for Star Wars Episode VII will focus on Han, Luke and Leia. Arndt's script was about their kids, but Abrams' vision has the original trio front and center. Some of the kids will show up, setting up their ascendency in the rest of the Sequel Trilogy. It's not clear if these kids will be the same characters Arndt wrote about; like I said in October, this new script is a page one rewrite.

The other big rumor has new names attached for roles that may not even have existed last year. Girls' Adam Driver has met, as has Michael Fassbender. It seems like Hugo Weaving is all but cast, and will play an Imperial commander. That will make Hugo Weaving the nexus for all the big franchises, as he is in The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Transformers, the Marvel movies and now Star Wars.

The movie is supposed to start shooting soon - April, it looks like. Pre-production on this one is weird because of the script changes, but I suspect a lot of the action set pieces that have been pre-vizzed are being shoe-horned into this script. Still, this remains a movie that is flying by the seat of its pants. Here's hoping the changes are for the best, and that having a movie focusing on people who are very old and getting kind of decrepit is a good idea.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Of course there's been a major rewrite, which is why principal filming won't now begin until late March/early April according to Pinewood Studios. Security at Pinewood is above the White House and the Kremlin combined, so don't expect to many exclusive pics.
