Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Ooops, I got Moff wrong, so that's a title, not a persons name.

Screw this Star Wars crap. :lol

True, the PT definitely could have been worse I'll give you that.

I like both the PT and ASM, your argument is invalid in my case:dance

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

For anything the Emperor said in ROTJ, I find any of it hard to believe. He was a lying manipulative s.o.b., there is no telling if he had foreseen anything, and it is likely that he tried to keep under wraps that he was a "sith lord." Therefore, everyone would think that he has just a feeble old sympathetic man, and not an all powerful wizard. It was part of his power play all the bloody time. Most people only feared him by the political and military power he wielded. I also read in many biographies about Palpatine (which I have no idea how reliable any of them are), that he detested using a lightsaber and thought himself above it.

As for "Darth," I must admit that I was only eight when Phantom Menace came out, so it didn't bother me as much, but I always associated Darth with dark. When I would play with my figures, I even created a new bad guy named Dark Kasteel. (I know, how original and awesome) And that was before the Prequel movies if I remember correctly. To each his own I suppose. Like said before, I take Obi-Wan calling him Darth as a mocking gesture. It is his title, but you can also consider a title a name. (ala Mustafa Kemal Atatürk) And since there were no other Darths around, especially in the same room, (Palpatine no longer needed the disguise, and again thought himself above such things) it is safe to call him Darth.

I don't remember thinking it an odd encroachment on Vader upon hearing about Darth Maul for the first time. I also don't recall reading/hearing any fan complaints about it until only recently (ie maybe the last few years).

SW is meant for kids, everyone relax the **** up! :lol

If they wanted SW to be for adults they would've hired Nolan/Goyer!

:lol :lol

Doesn't a Darth Bane already exist in the EU, i'm sure if you dig deeper you will find a Darth Talia and Lord Ducard. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I never thought very much about whether his name or title was "Darth." I wasn't too fussed when they started using it for other characters with the prequel. It made marketing sense for toys and whatnot. If that's the kind of thing the new films adopt from the prequels, then I won't be very bothered by it.

I like both the PT and ASM

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I think both people arguing are right. I think Darth Vader was indeed originally a name. But George changed a lot of things in the PT and the name Darth became sort of a title. But it's not just an ordinary title like "King" or "Mr. President." It's an honorary name designated to a Dark Lord of the Sith. When someone that's not a subordinate addresses a Dark Lord of the Sith, they refer to them as Darth So-and-So or for short, So-and-So. When a subordinate addresses them, they're not aloud to call them by simply "Darth" or even "Darth So-and-So" like they're best buds. They refer to them as Lord So-and-So. Makes sense to me.

As for lightsaber colors, I imagined a myriad of colors because they're lightsabers. Light refracts into rainbows when shining through a prism. The lightsaber crystals should then hypothetically be able to produce any natural colored light. Before I was exposed to the EU, I wrote fanfics for journal time in 3rd grade. Ever notice how Luke throws his lightsaber away from him when he refuses to turn to the Darkside? I never saw him pick it back up, so in my mind, it was lost in the explosion and he'd construct a new one. In my stories, it was orange. Again, that was before the EU. No where in the movies do they say they have to be blue, green, or red. Samuel L. having a purple one was a cool choice in my mind. I only wish we saw some yellows and oranges out there as well. Fingers crossed to see more colors and hues in the Sequel Trilogy.
