I liked Ewoks. They still don't bother me. It is what it is.

I thought Revenge of the Sith was good, and liked certain parts of AOTC, but I haven't watched TPM in a long time. I love the OT and EU, and I'm hoping that the ST will get back to the basics. Less is more this time around. I'm not saying they need to be boring, but let's get a good interesting story and good characters that we can root for and against.

Eh, I need more convincing. I see your point, but that doesn't really put Vader in a "bad *** light", does it? He actually looks pretty stupid and pathetic (and that's discounting the prequels, imagine if we included his original whiny ***** persona that killed a bunch of kids!)

Dudes like Han, Lando, Boba Fett etc. could act out their most base desires without becoming someone's "dark b***h". This light side/dark side, Jedi/Sith thing is sort of dumb the more you think about it. I think Luke had the right idea, balance. Why not choke a couple of Gamorean guards for fun? Why not be a good guy that fights oppression and tyranny?

Yoda and Ben have some great life lessons in the first two, but when it comes to ROTJ, hmm, I'm not sure. The story "logic" seems ****ed.

:lol :lol :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

So the big news of the day is that the new movie will be set approx. 30 years after ROTJ. I'm really glad they clarified that because I had a hard time doing the math.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

What else would it have been with Luke, Han and Leia supposedly returning?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

there were several people out there, screaming that it was going to be anywhere from a few hours, to a few million years after ROTJ. The internet is strong with the stupid.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Well, this being a fantasy universe they could have said 100 years later and that Luke, Han and Leia are still alive because people live longer in this universe or something. I mean, actual ages are never mentioned in Star Wars, they could have pretended Alec Guinness was 97 in ANH.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Yeah I don't like them using McGregor I prefer Alec Guinness. But unfortunately he's dead,.

Well I wouldn't say he was stupid and pathetic, though I wouldn't say that about any other strongly religious or ideological person, either (well, there are always exceptions, but. . .). He is a true believer, following the trauma he encountered prior to finding the Dark Side. They talk about the "ancient religion" or something in Star Wars, right? So, that's how I think of it. The fact that those who buy into it are allowed to do truly evil things is just icing on the cake, and something that probably makes things less "hellish" for guys who buy into that line of thinking, but I think the real draw is the pseudo-religious angle, or at the very least, a strong ideological view that an authoritarian dictatorship, ruling through fear is the best way to run things. Otherwise, I'm not sure why else Vader would do what he did and I don't think I could explain it.

Please don't ever mention ANH and "97" in the same sentence again. *shudder* ;)

Always 2 there are, no more...no less, a mast........

Quite the absolute statement there eh Yoda? Good thing everyone is allowed to deal in those. Oh wait.

I hope it really starts to sink in now that he's just sitting around, what absolute garbage he's been shoveling for the past 2 decades. He wouldn't let anyone tell him "no". He has a huge wake up call coming without any of that power left.

I was recently watching old footage of Ceausescu in Communist Romania. At the end, they gave him on a show trial, and right up until he was shot and killed he couldn't believe that the people didn't actually love him in the way they had been telling him, singing to him, etc. for the previous two decades.

Perception can be fundamentally skewed when you aren't exposed to alternative viewpoints, and when critical thinking isn't appreciated and sought out. I think that's clearly what happened with George, and exacerbated the natural creative decline he experienced through the '80s, '90s, and '00s.

What a stupid line anyway - what is an 'absolute' exactly in the jedi context? And how is any of their ridiculous crap about love, anger, fear, hate etc not an absolute. Really its no wonder Anakin turned to the darkside - maybe that was the point. But then again it only serves to make the jedi look idiotic and for you to wonder how just about everyone doesn't go dark eventually.
