STAR WARS

EPISODE IV: THE REBELLION AWAKENS

Darth Vader has vanished. Somehow after being basically eradicated the Jedi have risen from the ashes of the Emperor's Purge. The Emperor's son is now inexplicably in charge of the Rebel Alliance. Despite already finding the Chosen One 30 years ago Palpatine has sent one of his best clone pilots in search of a map that could find him again and restore the Empire to it's former glory....

I mean whaaaat? But that's the ST for you, lol.

:lol :lol :lol

Yeah that post of mine seemed to get a good few lols, I was surprised.

Growing up I always thought that the logistics of Luke's connection to Owen Lars and Owen's connection to Darth Freaking Vader were highly suspect and most likely without any satisfying explanation at all. But AOTC provided a pretty organic explanation for why Vader would have a Tatooine connection and how Owen and Beru fit in and why Luke would be given to them. It turns out Owen is a Skywalker himself, but never in a way that I ever could have guessed. Closes that loop in pretty much every way that actually felt pretty natural IMO.

And now curse you for making me defend AOTC, lol.

What bugged me about it though was that it didn't show anything of what old Ben talked about in ANH. We never even saw Obi-wan meet Owen Lars until he was literally handing Luke over - by which time Anakin was already Darth Vader - so when was all that stuff about Owen not wanting Anakin to get involved in the wars or refusing to let Luke inherit the lightsaber supposed to have taken place? That could have been really interesting material to cover and none of it was as far as I recall. So now in ANH Obi-wan is not only lying to Luke but providing all sorts of unnecessary embellishment to the lie.

I admit it was always going to be difficult to explain this stuff on screen with Lucas's retconning of his own ideas.

I think it would have been cooler if the fight had a small scale, no bridge collapsing and swinging around and jumping on those hovering machines like a Mario game. It would have made more sense if Obi cut one of the arms off, and Annie keeps fighting with one arm until Obi cuts the legs with one swift move later on, making Annie roll down the hill and into the lava.

Agreed. Honestly all that crap basically ruined the whole duel for me. Lucas was incapable of taking a less is more approach with the PT.

I love Empire too, up until this.

For Anakin’s left arm, could have just had Obi-Wan slice off the legs. Then later on when Anakin’s on the operating table, Palpatine sadicstically tells the surgeon he wants total body prosthesis and to lose the arm since Vader is now property of the Galactic Empire.

:lol :lol :lol

Brilliant. Also makes sense with the EU stuff where its said that Palpatine wanted to keep Vader down so to speak. And since real, natural arms and hands seem to be a requirement to use force lightning, that would be one way he could deliberately limit Vader's power.

"It's over, Maul - I have the low ground!"!

:lol :lol :lol

I know.

I said earlier, like you, I didn't want to have to post in two places, or have another forum to invest in. It's bad enough the customs section is in another forum but that one is very small and manageable. And like I said, I like a lot of the guys over there, but I've already made my choice.

If you go, you will be missed.

That's why I didn't end up joining. I got as far as having to come up with a password and realized I didn't need to be on two forums talking about the same stuff. They seemed to really hate this place whereas I didn't and I figured the majority of people I interact with would continue posting here anyway. The customs shutdown didn't bother me that much...although I was enjoying the work of Doggiedoc.

The new comics have gone some way to explaining it:

Yeah the PT does make Ben out to be quite the random liar. I just liked that Lucas provided a valid backstory that fits in with Luke and Owen's conversation during their little blue milk meal. In AOTC Owen and Lars first hear the name "Obi-Wan Kenobi" while attending Owen's mother's funeral when R2 rolls up with an "urgent message from Obi-Wan Kenobi." Anakin and Padme leave in response to Obi-Wan's message and then everything goes to pot and both Anakin and Padme end up dead, so to speak.

So I thought it was pretty slick how that tied in with Owen and Beru sharing a concerned look in ANH when Luke said that the Droids wanted to go off and find Obi-Wan and how Owen would not take fondly to such news.

"It's over, Maul - I have the low ground!"

:lol :rotfl

Darth Maul looks threateningly at the ledge itself.

Obi-Wan: "Don't try it!"

Maul attacks the ledge anyway. Obi-Wan kills him.

The new comics have gone some way to explaining it:

Not bad, though as I stated above I don't even think such elaboration was necessary. What series and issue was that from?

The main Star Wars #15. Yeah, it doesn't really need explaining - unlike, say, the events between Eps Vi and VII - but interesting nonetheless.

(It *does* get a little ridiculous when Luke catches Owen mid-air using a skyhopper!)

Mmmmm Luke Skywalker Mary Sue....

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

The new comics are just as canonical as the movies, for better or worse. There’s been some good stuff in them, from Vader hiring Fett to discover Luke’s identity, to the origin of Vader’s fortress.

Very true. I love the Lord Momin stuff and Vader seeing a deformed version of himself as a child aboard Padme's Starship. That is quite haunting and deep.

So its been a while since I came here. Sue to the ridiculous cold weather I decided to give it a go. Read the last 10 or so pages.. Good to see that people are still arguing about Maps, box office, blu ray sales, actors opinions of their characters, directors visions vs fans expectations, etc.. Great debates going back and forth pulling out all the stops to defend their arguments..

After all of this I have come to one conclusion.

The ST still sucks.

;)

Have you seen Glass yet?

:lol .... Right on the money. :hi5:

Yes, yes it does.

But we did get 1.5 great Star Wars movies out of it -- RO and Solo.

I still say that RO is the best thing since "Empire".

:clap .... :duff

The only reason there is still "Hope" for Disney to fix their mess. :wink1:

But we did get 1.5 great Star Wars movies out of it -- RO and Solo -- that's more than the PT provided.

I still say that RO is the best thing since "Empire".

RO is good stuff for sure.

Have you seen Glass yet?

Ya know... I didn't hate it.. I enjoyed the first two acts a lot and parts of the third.. I have issues with the twist and one other part.. Fix that other part and I don't even hate the twist.

But its not as good as the first two

But its better the TFA and TLJ :lol

This forum has 4 or 5 guys that have the same Star Wars discussions with themselves over and over and over again. They even make all the same topics too.

Most of the quality posters that had some personality and contributed with actual cleverness and humor are long gone.

God almighty you're pretentious.

He’s right tho. Now the discussion is actually a discussion instead of saying how good the movie was and how it made money. The thread had more people in it then it has in awhile

The real reason I came back because I kept getting all of these PMs praising and thanking me for taking down The Last Jedi like the rabid dog it is. So much praise and thanks for doing what I do. Members kept telling me how much they appreciated my criticism of TLJ and its slightly more attractive but still homely sister TFA. I had to come back. I just had to.
