I remember Wrath of Khan well but have never, in all my life, owned one single Star Trek film ever. I've owned AOTC twice now, lol (DVD and blu-ray.)
I have had them on vhs and Blu-ray. I always liked the original show and generation and most of the movies. I never was for or against one just always depended on what I felt like watching. I always liked the Kirk, Spock and bones dynamic.

It's not even that I've actively avoided ST films (okay maybe a little) but for one reason or another they've just never ended up in my collection.

However THIS ABSOLUTELY WILL. A 3/4 SCALE SW ARCADE REPLICA WITH THREE SW GAMES OH HELL YES! :rock :thud:

When is that coming out Khev and for how much? I never figured you to be against Star Trek. We all have our priority movies to get and they are one of mine. I want that that cabinet. I would get a full size one too

Retro Atari SW arcade cabinet will be available in November, I'm guessing $350 based on Arcade1Up's other cabinets.

And I wouldn't say I'm against Star Trek per se, but definitely haven't ever been a big enough fan to own them or buy any merchandise. I did see ST II and VI in theaters when they came out which fortunately ended up being arguably the two best films in the series.

Yes those are the best but they also have the same director for them. I know your not against the movies. I like our conversations on here because there is some humor and some insight that can be different to give a new appreciation for something.

I'm drooling!

But if I must be honest, the arcade Star Wars game I REALLY want is the one crom the late 90's. That one was incredible!

Very true. :duff

I should give the Trek films (originals) a rewatch soon. I did binge a few episodes of ST:TNG on Netflix about a month ago and found that those have a nice nostalgic late 80's charm.

The original Star Trek films give a great sense of ''isn't it amazing'' to the whole travelling through space thing which obviously Star Wars (and modern Trek) doesn't dwell on. The Enterprise is much more of a character in the sense that she gets build-up, the crew are always eager to be on board, the films make sure to show her off and so on. Even entering and leaving a space-dock is a huge deal, with people watching in awe and amazement, particularly in III when she's coming home with battle damage from the events of Star Trek II. And that space station in itself was incredible.

The later films lost the majesty of the whole thing. I actually quite like Star Trek Generations, that's the first film with the Next Generation crew, but I was always disappointed they didn't use the bigger budget to really do some great stuff with Enterprise D (other than the crash and ultimate destruction of the ship) - I mean this here was the very first shot of the ship

Cool lighting and all with the star but they don't even let the ship come fully into frame before cutting to the bridge interior. Always struck me as silly. I'm surprised it didn't seem to occur to anyone when editing the film together 'Hold on, this is the Enterprise D's very first appearance on the cinema screen, a 4 second partial shot from behind. I think we need something more here'

Anyway...Star Trek today is basically Star Wars without Jedis and the force. It seems to have lost its identity while trying to be down with the kids of today.

Very true A-Dev. I was almost 5 when the first trek movie came out. I was in complete awe when they first showed the Enterprise in space dock. Showing it from every angle was cool. The scene from 3 you mention was great too to show the sense of scale when the enterprise came to dock with the star fleet officers seeing first hand at what Khan had done. Khev I am glad you watched some of the next generation recently. Most of them still hold up for with the time period in mind. The remastered Blu rays look great.

Back to the Future and Cheers really hurt the rewatch value of III for me. I stopped seeing just a badass Klingon and Vulcan in place of Doc Brown and Kirstie Alley, lol.

I do really like the film's tone though.

Lol, skinny Kirstie thankfully. It's funny because she was also in that sci-fi cop movie "Runaway" with Tom Selleck that same year and I remember thinking she was hot. My 10 year old self didn't realize she was the same actress as the Vulcan in ST III, lol.

I feel like I don't get to sit at the "cool kids" table, because I actually like ALL of the Star Wars movies. Obviously there are some I like more than others, but I can find many things to enjoy in all of them. Star Wars is like *** and pizza ... even when it's bad, it's still pretty great.

You are definitely welcome at my table -though it might not meet the coolness credentials - but still would be nice to be seated with someone positive for once.

Hahaha, thanks. I just find that there's enough **** going on in life at any given moment to spend too much time hating the things that I choose as entertainment.

Unfortunately, Star Trek was always smarter and more analytical in the question of humanity -- two things that seem to have gotten lost in the pressing need for laser blasts and spaceship fights brought on by Star Wars.

Trek was for the thinking man. Wars was for children. But I was always more of a child at heart, so I never quite connected with Star Trek the same way I did with Star Wars. That said, I don't think Trek should have ever tried to become Star Trek Wars.
