For some reason, threadcrapping is a term generally applied to only negative comments. I stated way back when Khev started on his threadcrapping tirade that repetitive positive comments can also be construed as threadcrapping. It's telling about the nature of this board that the CoC states that one's opinion is not fact, however that statement is then followed by a focus on only criticism as an offense. If you don't agree with someone, repetitive positive comments can be just as annoying and trolling as negative comments.

I think the issue is that negativity is just repetitive and annoying in general...my tolerance for hearing someone go on and on about how happy they are and how much they love life is much higher than my tolerance for someone whining and complaining about something all day...then again if I were generally miserable then I would probably have a much higher tolerance for negativity than positivity...

People who can take negativity and critisism at face value don't have to be generally miserable.
Also, they're more mentally mature than people who cannot do that.

I agree with what Jal76 just said.

It not a matter of what you can "take" I can take getting a shot but I definitely don't get them for fun and and would not choose to spend my time receiving them...

It's easier to categorize negative comments as trolling, even though there may be some validity to them, because there are people on this board that take the comments personally. The validity is ignored, focus is given to the negative, and all of a sudden that person is labelled as a troll or stupid or a threadcrapper.

I've seen more people being attacked for not liking the film than vice versa. The people making positive comments about TLJ quickly turn to making negative comments about the people that didn't like the film by backing up their opinion with insults, but that is generally ignored here.

I never had a problem with positivity as long as that person doesnt mind someone elses negativity or as long as they can hear the problems with the movie.

The problem with Overly Positivity is when that positivity is used to Discredit An opinion or to try to suggest that your opinion or your view is Wrong.

Since the movie is SO amazing, your problem Must be wrong and You Must be wrong, you were So stupid....that you didnt get the movie (And this was legitimately suggested when people started question this movie)

or that you somehow must have not been paying attention or that you arent smart enough to get the movie (Some websites defending the movie even wrote articles saying that TLJ was too smart for modern audiences)

People are being extremely positive about Avengers right now and theres no problem with that. people were extremely positive with Bladerunner and there was no problem there, etc etc....

it was ONLY in this movie that this positivity was turn into a weapon to mock and discredit the "haters" and suggest they were stupid.
that was one of the reasons there were so much figthing at one point. positivity turned to Smugness and it turned to looking down at people

That kind of positivity turns toxic. (Just like overly negativity turns toxic too)

Speaking for myself I have yet to mock or belittle someone for disliking the movie...a lot of people that I like and respect in real life have some real issues with TLJ and I respect that...even more I actually understand why people would have issues with it in spite of my appreciation for it. Generally speaking though, and I am not trying to instigate or inspire some deep search through a month's worth of postings, but I do not see anyone here who liked the movie attacking others for disliking it. Don't get me wrong I see a lot of defense for the movie but who ever insulted any one for disliking it?

Looking at that "Threadcrapping" sticky I agree that it can be worded better. Since we don't have "Positive" and "Negative" threads for any given movie that means that all opinions are welcome (as they should be.) But when people who share an opinion are having a cordial and lively discussion about said opinions and someone comes in and starts being a jerk to them, mocking them, insulting them, etc., spamming the thread with repetitive crap/youtube links for the sole purpose of derailing the previous conversation into what *they* want to talk about then that's where the threadcrapping comes in. That's always been my take on it anyway, obviously it's up to current mods to decide how to interpret and deal with such behavior.

I remember that when ALIEN: Covenant came out I enjoyed it as gory, shlocky fun but pretty much everyone else hated it. I didn't laugh at the haters, call them trolls, or any of that nor did anyone take issue with my highly outnumbered opinion. It was pretty much a hated movie, I disagreed, everyone said their peace and it was all cool. I didn't try to change anyone's mind or prove them wrong nor did anyone attempt the reverse. In fact I pretty agreed with all the criticisms against the film even if they didn't happen to rub me the wrong way. Anyway that was just an easy example of a predominantly negative thread where everyone was respectful and civil and neither side (haters or fans) was ever "threadcrapping" the topic at hand.

Kong Skull Island is another example (though for that one I was definitely one of the naysayers, lol.)
