Recently re watching this...noticed something new...there really is a lot going on here if you pay attention.

In one scene, Luke goes to the Rock where he was schooling Rey. This is the scene where he reconnects with the Force....NOT the scene everyone thinks which is where he gets mad as Rey for speaking with Kylo.

He places his hand on the rock, and the water on top of the Yin Yang esque symbol on the floor vibrates, and then reaches out to Leia, who then wakes from her coma. She says “Luke” He replies “Leia”

Immediate cut to Rey involuntarily connecting with Kylo. Luke contacts Leia, And simultaneously Kylo and Rey make contact....thats not a coincidence.
It was shot that way for some reason. The conversation they have revolves around Kylo again trying to convince Rey she is a nobody, and telling her Luke is the bad guy. It totally views as a set up.....
Kylo also converses with her about how unimportant parents are , and that she places too much value on it.

I think this whole thing might be the greatest set up of all time.....I am saying it now, Rey IS a Skywalker.....no doubt. But from where? Perhaps a new lineage of Skywalker will be discovered?

I remember somewhere either JJ or Serkis described Snoke as looking like he was reconstructing himself. At the time I didn't know about the age gap between Kylo and Rey so my fevered mind started thinking - what if Skywalkers always come in twin pairs - Luke/Leia, Rey/Kylo - what if Snoke was Anakin's twin and we would, by the third movie, see him fully reconstructed as some Hayden/Shaw hybrid?

I was pretty proud of that. :lol

Well crap that would have been pretty cool. Shmi's placenta was so saturated with midichlorians it was willing itself into existence as Anakin's twin.

There are a lot of things going on with this movie. I really think that the third installment of this trilogy will either make TLJ one of the best SW movies or the worst. :D

Not great by any stretch, but I am still certain Rey is a Skywalker.

I think the gag is that Kylo is lying (or just dumb and wrong)... either way, its a play on ESB "I am your father" where everyone thought for 3 years that Vader was lying... so this time, they have a "Vader" who is in fact lying (or horribly misinformed).

The Saga has to go back to the Skywalkers. Otherwise, just make a one-off.

(or horribly misinformed).

I think he is misinformed. Fits his character too (he doesn't strike me as particularly intelligent).

Also, it took Vader a while to realize that Luke is his son, and even longer to realize that Leia is his daughter. It's not a stretch for Kylo not to see Rey's true lineage.

That, and its just about the only way JJ could get this train-wreck back on track.

I don't think JJ would or should backtrack with whatever has happened in TLJ that much. I think that TLJ deviated far enough from the original trilogy that if JJ tried to course-correct back, it would break the current trilogy. Also, as much as people who hate TLJ try to put the blame on Rian Johnson, you have to remember that JJ Abrams was the EP for TLJ. He knew the direction where this was going and let it happen. I think whatever happens next would build upon what TLJ brought into SW canon.

2 Good analysis on why certain parts of TLJ worked, and while other parts bombed.

Yup, I think that was the point...both sides killing each other is not going to bring balance.

In the end Holdo’s sacrifice really didnt matter did it? She martyred herself for nothing.

Finn would probably died in vain also.

This was Luke’s whole point. He, as one man , could not change what was happening. So he strode down the middle, mainly to save his friends.
