I wasn't speaking against you, only agreeing with his general statement.

I was wondering where xipotec was in age because I distinctly remember knowing about Luke's T-16 -- since he says in the movie: "my T-16 back home" -- and that you could see it parked in his garage and that it was clearly the same vehicle as the model he was playing with. That, and so many references that Luke is a very good pilot himself. For a Star Wars movie, that conceit was very well established.

They do indeed.

See I don’t think RO is any better than TFA/TLJ.

All 3 have some problems but also have some great moments.

I choose to enjoy all 3 in this order RO/TLJ/TFA.

Difabio chooses to hate all 3 and hate IX already 2 years before release.

You choose to love RO and hate TFA/TLJ.

DiFabio and I are at least consistent you are not that bothers me lol

In others words it’s not logical to love RO and hate TFA/TLJ all 3 are from the same Disney assembly line.

*cracks knuckles*

Time to tear xipotec a new butthole.

Sigh ...Ok, line by line then....remember this is 1977...and you just left seeing ANH.....try to forget the last 40 years....

First, why are we doing this on terms of "hurr durr, we're in May 1977 only, no outside sources allowed"? I know what a T-16 skyhopper is, sue me. :lol

It's not like Episode 9 or alternate source is going to magically make Rey better. It's too late for that. Disney just keeps doubling down on her perfection.

We have one line....talking about a ship.....we have no idea what that ship is....we see him drive a land based vehicle that's all. Whats a womp rat? Any idea? is it s ground animal? If it is it makes more sense that a T-16 is a ground vehicle and he is shooting them from that.

Your really gonna tell me cause he is playing with a model we are suppose to know that a T-16 back in 77......

We know from the film that the T-16 Skyhopper is nothing like his X-34 Landspeeder, which is also in the film.

1. it's not just the miniature model, you can see the bigger life size model in the background
2. it has wings
3. Luke is comparing said flying vehicle and mission (of hitting thermal exhaust port) to the X-Wing

It's not just that one line either, there are multiple instances of the film establishing that Luke "isn't such a bad pilot himself".

Hey look Rey is wearing a visor...she must know how to fly an X-wing....... thats the real deal not a model!!!!!

Another strawman argument.

We know from the opening crawl of TFA that this takes place after the Empire vs. Rebellion. There is also a decades old decommissioned AT-AT and Star Destroyer by her along with that helmet, doesn't mean she knows how to drive and pilot them.

I actually quite like that quite scene of her with the helmet eating that sponge cake or whatever, but I digress.

NEXT

uh wait a second here....are you asking me to take into considerations stuff that was not in the movie? Argument dismissed. Like we are judging TLJ anf TFA if we didn't see it it didn't happen. loads of material may come out in the next 40 years to easily explain alot of stuff. As already stated..the novel says she can fly and has done so before. She herself tells Finn when he asks "We need a pilot.." Answer "We have one".

From Wookipedia.....Essentially what the novel says....
While Rey was wary of the others at first, she came to think of them as friends as they proved their trustworthiness by keeping watch over the ship at night, and helping to protect it from a group of Teedos. Together the three scavengers restored the ship to working order, and Rey was able to pilot the craft over the desert with the skills she had learned from her flight simulator program. Once the ship was complete, Rey flew it to Niima Outpost with the others. However, as soon as she stepped out of it to barter with Plutt, Devi and Strunk stole the ship and fled the planet, leaving Rey with nothing to show for her work.

No, I'm not asking you to take anything into consideration. I was just pointing out the little model Luke was playing with is a miniature of the large scale one (or matte painting, whatever it is) we see parked out front in the same scene. :lol

No novel needed, we can see the T-16 right there in two instances and hear about it later right in the context of the film.

Does this look like its easy for her?

Directly from the film;
Rey: Nice shooting.

Finn: Now that was some flying.

Rey: Thanks.

Finn: How did you do that?

Rey: I don't know.

Finn: No one trained you?

Rey: I've flown some ships, but I've never left the planet.

Finn: No one? That was amazing.

Rey: Your last shot was dead on.

Finn: You set me up for it.

Rey: You got him with one blast!

Finn: That was pretty good.

Rey: It was perfect.

They sound pretty much like Luke did .....

"I GOT HIM!!!!!"

See below.

Just a heads up.. the part you quoted was about Luke shooting the Falcons guns and not being good at it.. Rey shot the same guns in TLJ and "naturally" did much better job.. :)

When was this established again? Because Luke says its too dark to go out with Sandpeople around? I do not recall any saying they defended anything from sandpeople in ANH anywhere. More assumptions that have grown to accepted truths over 40 years of reinforcement and new information. I know tons of modern day farmers who own guns and cannot shoot for crap..... assumption again.

So we got your quote, Luke and Uncle Owen even owning a blaster rifle, Luke's womprat quote and Luke enthusiastically bringing a big ass rifle with him "just in case there or Sandpeople . . . or worse", and I'm the one that is "assuming". :lol

I guess everyone at the Lars homestead are just gun enthusiasts I suppose, they don't have to actually use them or defend their home. I guess as an audience, we should just assume that Sandpeople are a non threat and when it's dark, Owen, Beru and Luke just hide or something, maybe behind that T-16 Skyhopper! :lol

Top shot is a production shot...invalid.

......and again all these assumptions you made back in 77 in a lighting quick response to you hero and his need to be explained. Your real world explanations mean nothing in this film if they didn't expressly show it or explain it...that's the standard we are holding ST to isn't it? nothing we see shows that this kid knows one end of a gun from another....he can shoot cause hes a farmboy and carries a gun....lemme tell you I live in the south...everyone who carries a gun around here ....and most would probably shoot themselves first.

He's obviously not much of a fighter or defender if he lets someone sneak up behind him and waylay him.

He carries that rifle in the film! :lol

And that's one of the reasons young Luke is, thankfully, nothing like Rey. He can't do everything and he's not loved by everyone like Rey is. That's why I don't get why you have such a hang up on him being a decent pilot or getting a couple of hits with a blaster.

It's not like he used force powers, mind tricked Stormtroopers and bested Darth Vader in combat. Hell, we get scenes of that remote orb shooting him in the ass with Han laughing at him and Luke missing several troopers with his blaster only for Leia to pull the blaster out of his hands and kill them with it.

Again, you have no arguments here.

Lets not get personal....I do so like to play devils advocate....

How's that getting personal? That's what you and other people are doing! You rip at the originals to support the new flicks. Nothing personal about it. You're the one going into details about being from the south. :lol

Thanks for the uneeded Luke Skywalker history :)

Are you sure? You don't seem to remember Luke Skywalker or the original films very well.

Rey was a slave...just like Little Ani.....we know shes working for food and it being used for her skill at finding and fixing parts, sound harder than a whiny farm boy life to me.

Luke had and Aunt and Uncle, his surrogate parents.

Anakin had a mother.

Rey has nobody.

When is it said she owns he Falcon? She flies the Falcon....like other people.
main-qimg-116e7491b53fa71391b6b8ef6da88cfd.webp

Does this guy now own the Falcon ...hell he is even wearing his frozen friends clothing...

Man, you really haven't watched the older films in a while have you. Lando used to own and fly the Millennium Falcon. He's the rightful successor to it in Han's absence.

As soon as Han dies, she's the pilot of the thing. Sure it's not said that she's the owner, but Chewie is taking orders from her by the second movie and he reduced to a co-pilot and co-pilots chair once again.

It's her ship.

Everyone is a better fighter than Finn....Finn is an automaton....he know one thing...how to shoot a blaster...He ALSO manages to shoot down some TIE's on his first try...like Luke ...like Rey.....

In TLJ, Rey is shooting down TIE fighters left and right the second she's on screen, smiling and enjoying herself as she blasts them with ease.

Luke and Han struggle and it's a slower paced scene that goes on for minutes before they take down a small group of fighters. Same deal with Finn in TFA.

Rey is blasting them out of the air left and right without a second of hesitation.

There are zero scenes that show Rey is a better pilot than Poe. On the contrary we get a shot of just how great Poe's flying is...and ther is not a single thing Rey does that is comparable to that....she was barley holding the Falcon aloft and was running into stuff the whole time she flew it.....it does not compare even remotely to what we see Poe do.

Just wait until Episode 9.

Well its been fun changing no one mind....that not my intention anyway. But there it is line by line.....

You're wasting your time. You let me get you flustered for nothing when you could have just moved on and let this discussion be lost and forgotten.

There are no winners here, only losers with too much time on their hands arguing about a stupid movie.

Just trying to point out that there will never be a film series like OT again...not because OT is perfect...but because it came to us at a perfect age.

Of course the OT isn't perfect, it's got Return of the Jedi attached to it.

Star Wars and Empire are pretty close however. Disney's sequels don't even touch them.

It's not too late to redeem yourself, say something bad about TLJ and I'll pardon you.

Leave Wor alone. He likes RO for the Original Trilogy aesthetic and the cynical quipping droid, i.e. he likes it for the right reasons.

That's not wholly true though, I don't think I ever said I hate TFA. I liked it a lot when it first came out, breath of fresh air after the PT. However I was never a supporter of having the old OT crew come back, you know that. But I liked the movie despite dragging out the old bones. Over time though I got bored with it and find it mostly un-re-watchable now.

That was.... until TLJ... which admittedly I've only seen once. But I have no great desire to watch it again. I just didn't care for it. The few things I liked are spread so thin for me that I just have no interest in it. So I would have to say that I hated my experience watching it. For me, its right down there with AOTC.

But RO, for all its flaws, I love. Can't explain it -- because I'll be the first to admit I didn't "connect" with any of the characters. But as a movie -- as a war movie -- and as a Star Wars movie -- I felt it really worked. So did you, so you know what I mean. And it didn't feel "preachy" to me, or that it had an agenda -- although I don't actually believe TLJ had an agenda, but I do think the people who put it together were "aspiring" to what they believed in and wanted to see... but I think they tried too hard and it shows.

Don’t even have to put a gun to my head and i’ll easily take RO over TFA/TLJ because of that insane 3rd act, aesthetics and Gareth’s sincere love of the OT.

But I will defend TLJ until my dying breath because a photo of Luke and not Tarkin will be in my casket :lol

His 30 seconds saved TFA for me

Don’t you see Wor you mess with Luke you messing with my whole family.

You must see this. The roles are reversed. Luke as a Gary Stue. Rey's jobber aura and her status as a jack of all trades in tact.

:lol:lol:lol

Next time the whole "Rey isn't so bad, w-w-what about Luuuuke?!" inevitably pops up again, I'll post that instead of copy and pasting my old rebuttals.

Luke really gets treated like **** in the OT but never falters. A real hero!

Oh look TLJ is going to break into the top 10 world wide box office and surpass that dumb Fast and Furious movie without the help from China, sleep tight DiFabio and Wor-Gar lol.

Grab that ***** Vader grab it. :lol

Wow, a crappy movie is about to surpass another crappy movie on a monetary list! :lol
