The Last Jedi director asked for a droid swap in The Force Awakens

“Figuring out where his head was at was the very first thing I had to do when writing the movie. I had to crack this. And it had to be something for me that first and foremost made sense. Why did Luke Skywalker go off to this island?” Johnson says. “That was the starting point, and that’s what the entire movie explores.”

Does fleeing make him a coward? “I didn’t want it to,” Johnson says. “There has to be a good reason that makes sense to him — and to some degree makes sense to us.”

That doesn't sound good. It's up to this guy to figure out why the main hero of the SW saga pulled a Yoda and did nothing to save or help his friends?

I thought they had a plan from the beginning. I'm not expecting them to know everything that's going to happen, but Luke not being part of TFA was something they should have thought about before even writing the TLJ script.

Oh that's just precious. Don't feel bad. Everyone else thought so too. People actually believe that there was a backstory in mind for Rey and Snoke while they were making TFA.

(spoiler....there wasn't!)

I expected more from Disney, seeing how the MCU has set the standard for long term storytelling on film. Kevin Feige is steering that ship with some sense of direction, by having a number of "phases" ending with a big film.

I've been very critical of WB for not having a plan and improvising with each new film, but it's becoming clear that's just the norm for most franchises. :dunno No wonder the MCU is so successful.

I have no doubt there was a broad-stroke plan. No way would this get greenlit without an ending. It's very possible that Luke's disappearance is less important to the plot than him returning, training Rey, or whatever it is he ultimately does.

But as always, I'm not blessed with the insider knowledge and psychic ability of so many members.

Kennedy: "Colin when you get a chance can you come up with a reason why we blew up the republic planets in TFA".

:lol

I can only imagine all the hair that Rian and Colin must be pulling out while trying to come up with a non-stupid reason that Luke's ESB lightsaber was hidden under a bar.

That's a good point. Maybe his role isn't that important to begin with, and their plan...or ideas focused on Rey, Kylo and maybe Finn. We're the ones assuming that Luke will play a major role in the story, but perhaps that's not the case.

You don't spend 4 billion dollars, and not have a clue of where you're taking the franchise. It's possible that Han Solo dying in TFA was a given in order to get Ford back, and they focused on the new characters instead of the remaining original cast, hence why Landa is not around, and why most of the OT characters weren't in TFA that much.

Kennedy at the production meeting be like....

"listen everyone if we ever want this DiFabio guy to stop calling, complaining then hanging up on us we better get this lightsaber story right!"

I think Hamill complained enough that he might be more prominent now lol.

There's not a single explanation that will be good enough to convince me that they somehow retrieved that lightsaber. Any thing they pull out of their ass will be EU/fan fiction tier. The best thing they can do is move on, not bring it up, and hope nobody remembers that "story for another time" BS.

They should have made it Luke's green lightsaber or something. Then again, Kylo wouldn't want that one since it wasn't his granddaddy's, but who cares, he has his burned mask.

***** please they were determined to dispose of and melt down a perfectly good golden Droid and would have if Chewbacca didn't stop them. You think they'd try and salvage a used, broken, beat up, graphlex camera handle? **** no, if they found that **** they would throw it in the trash.
