There are definitely a lot of things going on - from legit anger and disappointment to rehearsed troll diatribes that were just waiting to fill in the details. It is interesting for sure how challenging the movie is to the fanbase.

I imagine a lot of rational people will come to varying degrees of appreciation in time.

But I respect the passion, too.

Disney deserves all the backlash they’re sure to get for letting Rian do this.

I’ve also come to realize all the main media critics are part of the fake news. “Best since empire”

GTFO!

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Really? I have 6 kids (26 thru 15) not a one of them has set thru the original OT. I watch them at least once a year and most cable viewings. They know the characters because of me and what films they’ve watched.

Film and television has changed quite a bit since 77 so it’s relatively easy to understand why SW has adjusted.

Really? I have 3 nephews between the ages of 3 and 9 and they love the OT. Granted they love Episode 7 as well, but they can't get enough of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Those are still the iconic faces of Star Wars for them.

Moviemaking may have changed since 77, but there is nothing about the originals that makes them inacessable for youth. Hell, I was born long after they came out and I loved them.

Yep! :goodpost:

Anyone interested in George Lucas' idea if he was the one to direct the new trilogy? Anyone seen this before?

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Hey was that laundry ship a modified Firespray class ship? I can't find any pics of it yet. Hoping it was.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I wonder if Rian made Reylo so obvious in this on purpose just to destroy the myth of brother and sister hmmmm

It’s strange how Finn and Rey became irrelevant :dunno

We'll be got friend zoned pretty hard by the actors. I think the real triangle is between Kylo-Rey and Rey-Poe.

My kids don't like SW (8, boy & 13, girl), but my nephews, who are 8 & 11 boys, are obsessed beyond words - and their favorites are the OT (the youngest loves Vader more than anything on the face of the planet). So to say a blanket statement that they aren't relevant or don't work in 2017 is just ridiculous.

The only reason the SW brand continues is because of the 40 year foundation those films provided. Everything (lore) is built off them, and if they didn't hold up, there would be no new fans, films, or anything.

And again, TFA didn't stray from the formula (in fact it blatantly mimicked it).

Not even close... TPM duel is far better.. The Red guards scene was cool in concept but average in execution IMO... Rey's move of dropping the saber to her other hand was cool but overall it was average.. It was better when I though Kylo went to the good side.. Figured that was somehow setting up better things with a new villain or something.

Just got back from second viewing... Hmmmm... I think I just don;t care for these new stories.

What I liked

Kylo Ren - By far the best part of these new films.. The only character that seems to be having something going on around him and inside him all the time. His feelings, emotions, actions, all move his character back and forth... In the end it all puts him in charge of the new order.

Rey's desire to turn Kylo to the good side. I Liked that she had compassion for him...

Snoke - Nice and evil and well preformed.

Star Battle visuals were cool (sorry Jye but it has nothing on Jedi Death Star battle)

Mark Hamill's performance was very good and it was great to see Luke back on the screen.

Luke's interaction with R2-D2

What I did not like

The reason for Rey having all this Jedi power and such great control of it is ignored again. I have to assume Disney just wants to have her be the greatest princess ever.

The casino scene - Obviously but its jnot as long as I remembered so its easier to ignore.. Nice time to take a bathroom break.

The plots revolving around the starfleet chase, Finn, and Poe... Overly long and almost pointless. Could have been done better and quicker in some way. Would have been much better to have Poe and Finn on the mission together.. They are supposed to be the best of friends but they have been spent about 10 min together in this series.. I am surprised they even recognize each other.

Rose - Not as bad as the first time I saw her.. But she is worthless and I don;t like her personality at all.

The Luke and Rey scenes really drag the second time.. Almost an hour on that island and she hardly trains and really learns nothing of the force.. But she does not need to because she is the greatest jedi ever I guess.

SuperLeia

Luke being a hologram - It's a cool surprise the first time but once you know it.. Its actually disappointing that its not really Luke out there.

What I hated.

Laura Dern keeping her plan a secret.. Had she been a real leader like Mon Mothma, then Finn, Poe, and the rest of the rebellion would have known the plan and the rebellion would have had a lot more survivors.. She keeps it secret because there could be know boring subplots without it.

Plus here is an idea... Instead of sacrificing your ships and the captains on board.. How about all of them go in Hyperspace in different directions?? Cant trace all of them...

This rebellion deserves to be crushed. :lol

The overall story line.. Its just not grabbing me. You can tell that the OT and the PT had one person with an idea that saw it threw for better or worse.

The fact that the first film opened up all these questions just to not answer them is sort of frustrating and in all honesty very lazy.

Yest the OT did not explain everything.. But it did not need to. We were stuck in the middle and we found things out as the characters told us.

Problem with this is that these are based on characters and a Universe we already know. So just having a girl be great at the force goes against everything else we know before this... Who is Snoke and how did Snoke rise to power?? Where was Luke, Leia, Han and the rest of the galaxy when the first order began to rise up. How did Snoke Fill Ben Solo's mind with the dark side.. All of this would have made a far more interesting story IMO instead of a story about a girl who is perfect at everything.

And finally I am fine with the multicultural take these films are taking and putting woman in a position of power.. But please cast and write the parts better.. PLEASE!!

You know what it is JAWS the 32 year gap did this new series no favors that’s for certain.

I’m trying really hard to care about Han and Leia’s kid I really am. :lol

That guy is a great actor i’ll give him that.

1. Only 25 mill?

2. Half goes to the IRS.

:D

Forget 2 posts you did it with 7 words.

You miserable SOB lol

You make DiFabio look like the Pope.

Speaking of miserable I just left a parking garage where 2 families where yelling and cursing at each other over a parking spot while carrying gifts wrapped with nice words about the christmas spirit lol

No wonder Luke wanted to wipe out religion.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

That scene right there is where I knew it was going downhill, and it was the very beginning. Totally took me out of the movie. I half expected the benny hill theme to start playing

Yep same here. There were multiple times i thought to myself this has got to be a joke this can't be the real movie. TLJ directed by Seth Mcfarlane

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Does Disney really hate the comments about Kylo being another Vader copycat thus removing the helmet entirely?

Kylo was pretty cool with the helmet on, but Adam's expressiveness is too good to cover up.

But EP9 will be pretty weird without a mask character.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I thought I read early on it was Rian who hated the helmet, and the scene destroying it seems to correlate.. but the story aspect also made sense.

I agree, I loved the helmet, but seeing him act is also nice. But a bit more helmet and the ol' cloak would've been nice. The new padding cloth doesn't look nearly as cool.
