Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Am I going to have to sit through a whole lotta crap to see that ship?:impatient:

You know Total recall totally lied about what happens in vacuum. I was fine with what happened with Leia, though there were those thoughts on how they'd play it after what happened in real life. It'd kinda add a weird perspective to whatever they chose to do.

Probably the most space balls thing to ever happen in SW

When she put her hand on the glass I thought they were going to do a TWOK Spock death for her.

Where is this laundry ship? I had a hard time staying focused on the film, and it took a number of attempts to get to the end.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Comparing the comedy in Ragnarok with the comedy in TLJ is like comparing Eddie Murphy and Carrot Top. It’s not a new trend... the PT movies were panned for taking themselves too seriously. The ST has tried to fix that since the first meeting between Poe and Kylo Ben about who speaks first...

Ragnarok was built from the ground up to be a comedic venture with a director with a comedic background in film. That worked really well, and if it fell flat for you then that’s a bummer, because I for one thoroughly enjoyed it the best out of the Thor trilogy.p

And I’m glad you brought that up too because I’ve also seen some shade thrown at the MCU in this thread... “they’re trying to turn Star Wars into a Marvel movie!” First of all, no, not even close. Secondly, if it were the case, is it so terrible because Marvel movies are horrible pieces of junk? Lol, well then now I see why so many people are drinking Haterade here. If Marvel movies are a low bar to set, then I see very little chance JJ will be getting any love here come winter 2019.

I love the mcu films and loved marvel comics for a long time. The mcu is a different beast to the comics and they have several strands of different types and that could work with Star Wars as well imagine a Netflix Star Wars series!
But the tone of the mcu films isn’t not Star Wars and that is why I like both I don’t want them to be the same.

The tone of tlj is really mcu and as I say that doesnt work for Star Wars because it becomes robot chicken

Loved it.

I can't wait to find out what Luke's 3rd lesson for Rey is.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

So, does anyone know what the truth is about the story that Mark Hamill wasn't told that Luke dies in the end? Word going around is that Mark thought, or was led to believe, that Luke just collapsed from exhaustion at the end, that the death wasn't in the script, and that he only found out that the character dies when he saw the final, finished film at the première and witnessed Luke fade away on screen. Allegedly, that's why he looked so out of it during the post première press stuff, because he was still in shock (and likely none too pleased) and genuinely was kept in the dark/lied to about Luke's ultimate fate.

Because if any of that is even remotely true, then that is severely messed up.

Mark isn't exactly shy about making his feelings known, so if there is even a sliver of truth to it I'm sure we'll find out, but I really hope that's not the case, even though it wouldn't surprise me, given the way the Mouse House operates.

Yeah, it was weird. I was led to believe (by spoilers) that he died from the over-exertion of the projection, but he really doesn't - he seems fine. He dies in a CGI shot, so maybe Hamill didn't know. Nothing Hamill actually shot clearly suggests death.

Really hate how each of these ST movies kills off another OT hero - and now in reality the last of the three has died.

Yes! That came to my mind during that scene as well! Especially with her extending her arms like that :lol

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

That was a super-weird Flying Nun moment. She arrives back at the airlock door and they open it, but there doesn't seem to be any depressurization/suction out into space... that the previous scene of Leia being sucked out into space would suggest.

No, you missed it. He taught Rey how to milk a Space Cow, like Disney.

Attack of the Clones! LOL Even the title makes me laugh.

It's the perfect B-movie homage. And that's all Star Wars is (or was), a homage to the old Saturday B-movies and matinees.

Though I've been thinking AOTC would have been more fitting as Episode III's title.

So where was Snap Wexley?

I think I saw a fat pilot blow up but I don't think it was him.

Yay, you found an upside! BTW what does Simon Pegg think?

Curious. If snoke was connecting Kylo and Rey... how did it happen again after snoke’s Death?

not sure I believe the your parents were nobodies thing. Feels like a red herring.

BTW in TFA Rey says “I’m nobody” as answer to Maz question. So why is everybody surprised she is a nobody? :D

As much as I hated The Last Jedi, if they made a Boba Fett movie similar to the way he's depicted in Robot Chicken, I'd be all over it. He should be a cross between Archer and every Danny McBride character. I'm not kidding.

Couldn't care less who her parents were. It's already been proven that tremendously powerful Force users can come from normal families. Mace Windu, Palpatine...

What I hated was the lack of justification for her abilities in TFA. She should have had training as a child, and then some sort of memory wipe.
I get that they tried justifying it via Snoke saying that light had risen to meet darkness or something, but that's... lame. Advanced Force abilities take training.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

It's plural. It was also Leia.

I don't really care for Hollywood stars, especially when you have to pay $500 for their sig... But this made me very-very sad. :monkey2

That's too deep, man. As someone who still thinks that Star Wars is high art and ESB is the best film ever, I just can't understand this simple yet perfect logic of yours.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Does Luke sacrifice himself at the end for the sake of maybe a dozen rebels? After the battle, at the time Luke shows up, there seems to be very few rebels left, maybe ten who Rey rescues to get into the Falcon at the end.

And the FO goes to ENORMOUS trouble - lots of ATATs and the big cannon thing - simply to destroy a few dozen rebels before the battle? I get that Leia is there, but I didn't understand why they'd bother with so few left.

What I hated was the lack of justification for her abilities in TFA.

She had to survive as a scavenger from a young age so was already skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Her awakening Force powers only augmented that.

Hehe. Prequel haters don't seem to get that all Lucas' choices were deliberate and unapologetic, from the acting style ("old-fashioned 1930s") to Jar Jar (a Buster Keaton homage). It actually helps to appreciate them if you know where he's coming from.

So, after thinking about it... Knowing that there are no saber fights and most of the plot is about characters I don't care for in any way (Rebel... resist... Second Ord... pire... whatever, I just don't care) I've decided to just download from pirate bay. No regrets. **** Disney.

I don't mind her physical abilities in TFA, plus Kylo was literally dying in that forest after Chewie shot him, so it's fine that she had the upper hand.
The problem is the more Force oriented stuff, like the mind control and Force pull. That's just not something you come up with without having been taught.
I mean it's clear it was her first time doing those things, she hadn't been toying with that stuff on Jakku or they would have shown some of it.

Say what you will, and it is being said, but in terms of entertainment it is absolute madness for people to tout the PT over this.

Let's see what happens when the 'this is not the movie I wanted!!!' collective calm down.

Not discounting some of the very obvious issues I also have with this film but I did enjoy it.
