Even though I didn’t read any spoilers I went in fully expecting to see most of the following:

Snoke revealed as Vader or Palpatine or Plagueis
Rey’s parents either as The Force like Anakin (Shmii the nobody slave) or a Skywalker
Rey or Luke going dark
Hayden Force ghost (based on his celebration appearance)
Leia’s death
Knights of Ren
Rose as the mother of all spoilers being the reincarnated Vader that Snoke was referring to in the trailer
Luke lightsaber battle with the Knights of Ren

None of that happened.

Let me say that again.

NONE OF THAT HAPPENED!

GOOD BECAUSE IF ALL OF THAT DID HAPPEN THEN I WOULD’VE GUESSED THE ENTIRE ******* MOVIE BEFORE SEEING IT.

People here accusing TLJ of being lazy for not doing any of those scenarios.

It would’ve been lazy if they had given us everything we had freaking guessed before seeing it!

You know what, you're right! It's like giving kids a bunch of Christmas wrapped presents that are empty boxes, they will be so pleasantly surprised. In fact, the surprise will more than make up for the fact they actually received no tangible gift. You just saved me a ton of time and money!

Since Disney didn’t ruin Vader, actually made him even more bad *** than he already was which is amazing in itself.

Didn’t ruin Luke, instead gave us Hamill’s best performance yet!.

Didn’t ruin rebel fighter pilots they kicked *** in RO.

Makes me fully confident they won’t ruin Boba Fett.

It comes across as flawed when one film ignores the ideas of the other. Basically it started to feel like it was being different just to be different.

I doubt that Johnson set out to make a SW film different just for the sake of being different. Now I *do* think that he deliberately had things go in unexpected directions in order to allow the audience to actually be surprised while watching a SW film again but I don't count that as choosing to be different as a means to its own end or simply because he hated the previous movie.

I did kind of chuckle at how immediately Luke went off and changed his clothes after meeting Rey (I guess Johnson didn't much care for THAT outfit, lol) but I got the impression that Johnson made the film that most struck his creative nerves and then tried to reverse engineer it to fit with TFA. A lot of people are acting like he totally erased everything built by TFA "Alien 3 style" but that just isn't the case. It continued TFA, while continuing a character we hadn't seen since ROTJ, while also paying some lip service to how current events evolved from even the PT. I saw a lot of respect being paid to previous films while still allowing fans to pick and choose which ways they want to "fill in the blanks."

I'm so glad that I simply didn't watch the same film as many of the naysayers here (and not in a right vs. wrong sense, I'm just glad that I didn't see this alleged abomination of an Episode that others claim to have watched.)

And that’s perfectly fine your opinion of the movie is as valid as mine.

Force projecting was in the Dark Empire series. They didn't just make that up for TLJ. They did their research. And ever since the beginning, we heard ObiWan say, "strike me down I will be more powerful than you can ever imagine"....and we finally get to see that!!!

Is that still canon??

ANyways I was not even thinking of that moment when I wrote that.. I was thinking of everything else that has to do with Rey.. Yeah.. I need some sort of answers to why she is so good at everything.

I really feel like so many people have missed details either from the original films or from extended universe stuff. I am no expert at all on EU stuff, but its not hard to search and find out things. And not everything has to be spelled out for us to understand. Its like the originals left us with a lot of unanswered questions for decades. I mean one of the most beloved characters in the franchise Boba Fett was barely in the films, had maybe 5 minutes of total screen time and then died a quick death and people went nuts over him because in their mind they could picture the adventures he probably went on in his cool outfit. But who was he? No one knew back then.

I should not have to research books or play video games to get the full story but I get what you are saying..

AS for the Fett comparison..

Again.. SW was world building. It plopped you into an unfamiliar world with familiar human problems.. Characters like Fett needed no explanation.. Sort of like Cap Phasma.. Some people wanted more I get it.. Most wanted more from Boba also... Drives everyone crazy how he goes out..

Those small side characters are part of the fun of the SW Universe.. So me personally I don;t need all the answers for every character.. THat includes even snoke.. He does not need it.. But he also should have done something.. You set him up to be something.. But really he was not much more then a Boba Fett and a Captain Phasma... That is OK for small side characters.. Larger main ones.. Not so much.

My main issues are that the lack of answers and changing known lore is that it seems more a move of convenience then of true story telling.

Plus the fact that so many of the main characters are wasted in awful useless subplots. But that is just me. I can;t speak for everyone else.

today i feel like everyone just needs everything spelled out. They can't use their imagination anymore. If they don't see something on screen, then they can't understand it or grasp it. It wasn't like that with the originals. We never ever knew anything about the Emperor, how he came into power, how he was a Sith, nothing about him for like almost 20 years.

I am not in total disagreement with you here.. But The Emperor was a force to be reckoned with.. He served a purpose.. He was the yin to Luke's Yang for Vader... Snoke.. Meh.
Most of my feeings about Snoke and other SW characters I mentioned above.. I think had the film just been better written we would not feel the need for answers.. Probably why I don;t mind the death of Snoke.. Kylo is the best part of the story so having Snoke as nothing more then a plot point to get Kylo into power is fine by me..

At first I did not mind that we got no answers about Rey.. I like her character so I was willing to go with the fact that she is just the darn bestest at everything.. BUt then I started looking at the fact that this film was just not going to deal with any ideas previously asked in the other films and I started to get frustrated again

He quits and hides after failing as a teacher, fails to kill Kylo, which leads to Kylo killing his students, his best friend Hand Solo, and almost killing his sister...and his final act is to quit and let an untrained Padawan fix his mess.

True, Hamill probably wanted to jump of the cliff, but totally went along with the script and sold it. He really does deserve an Oscar.
