I wasn't looking for an amazing Shakespearean drama to unfold. I wasn't looking for the answers to the meaning of life. And (specifically for you) I wasn't looking for validation for a bunch of half-cooked fan theories.

It was fun. I had fun. My kids had fun. I don't need to justify that opinion as right or wrong to anyone. There is no right or wrong when dealing with matters of opinion. That is kind of the point.

There is right or wrong, when dealing with the internal logic of a film, and franchise. Even taking into account that aesthetics are subjective, there are obvious problems with this film as a coherent work of fiction. If your car breaks down, there's a functional problem with it regardless as to whether or not it looks pretty. Same goes for plot holes and narrative structure.

The reason why it's so frustrating, is that Disney seems to be paying off critics. It seems extremely unlikely that NONE of the mainstream critics who reviewed this film took issue with the numerous structural problems with the film. It's absurd. The reason why people are angry, is because Disney is wielding propaganda both within the film, and in the press as a vehicle to make money. I don't know how you feel about the OT, but it's an important cultural artifact that Disney didn't create. They bought it, and now they're subverting it into something dysfunctional.

I genuinely used to think that the whole paid off critics thing was complete non-sense. Really.

Then I listened to Kristian Harloff's and Ken Napzok's review from the Collider YouTube channel. Two of the biggest Star Wars fans I "know", huge lore nerds who read and know everything about canon and even a big part of Legends.
First thing I noticed is, they didn't look happy whatsoever. If you are a huge fan and just saw a Star Wars movie you loved, there is no way you can hide the happiness.
But then they started really talking about the movie, and it felt like they were trying to criticize certain aspects, but not too much, while hiding major disappointments (Luke, Snoke...). And then, they gave it a 9/10.

Now, I'm really not so sure anymore. That's really disturbing. Are they afraid they won't be invited to the premieres anymore?

Honest criticisms so hopefully Khev won't go dictator mode and deem it thread-crapping.:gah:

Exactly! (Harloff said he changed his mind lol, if people buy that............)
:goodpost:

In summary, you settled for what they served you whereas most people are sending the food back.

And stop already with the fan-theory bollocks. I could care less that the movie doesn't match the rumored stories I liked. The problem with this movie is that it's a PIECE OF ****. And the masses are clearly not settling for said ****.

:lol :lol :lol

I wish you would realize how ridiculous your post sounds.

Speaking of cereal, I always hated how Count Chocula lost its flavor after like 4 minutes of milk-time.

I could have probably handled Snoke's death if they had better developed Kylo Ren, but he was even more conflicted than ever in this film, how is he supposed to lead an army!

Also, again with Luke's death! Had he been an absolute legend throughout the film and done some crazy call stuff I could have gotten over him dying. But instead he was an attempted nephew murderer.

Done of the other themes people are banging on about bothered me. Like I really don't get the hate for the milking off the cow scene, I thought that quite nicely showed how simple, mundane and routine Luke's life was on the islands.

Disney owns Collider. They have for some time. They own 90% of blogger critics.

:lol

Really liked it as well btw, thought that was pretty much a perfect opening. That's why I didn't see this mess coming until Luke threw away Anakin's lightsaber.

good opening minus the silly "can you hear me now" attempt at humor
