Re: The Last Jedi OBJECTIVELY sucks. Your feelings are irrelevant.

Don't forget, Luke tossed away a saber he hasn't seen in 40 plus years that belonged to his father and a gift from Obiwan.....

That moment initiated the slow death of this movie.

For TLJ apologists/Disney disciples, yes. Just look at Jye constantly posting box office numbers like if their "season stats". They see it as a sport which is just tragic.

If TLJ had been the great movie they wished it was, 90% on the internet wouldn't be tearing it apart and petitioning for Johnson's firing from Lucasfilm. TFA had detractors but nothing like this. This is widespread hysteria.

Well movies are the business of art or do you think Lucas created SW in 77 to NOT MAKE MONEY?

Did he create SW so that he would lose the shirt off his back and go homeless or did he create SW to become wealthy and make more movies?

Re: The Last Jedi OBJECTIVELY sucks. Your feelings are irrelevant.

He did bash em! You should read for understanding. What’s silly is the constant Back and forth about issues totally irrelevant to the argument. There’s no need to make it political. The argument, logic vs opinion, stands by itself.

In part, I agree with the OPs original post. In a nutshell, they trampled on many tenets of the franchise and outright deviated from longstanding norms of the concepts of the force save for maybe the prequels. Many of the decisions made for this movie clearly were head scratchers at best. Down right asinine to say the worst. Was it enjoyable? Sure...parts of it. But it had too many moments that totally took me out of the spectacle of it due to all the departures from established Star Wars lore.

On that, we can agree. But there’s no need to make the discussion political...imho.

And to the OPs very long “find you” post, it’s f|_|cking Star Wars...not all that posturing you just posted. Have you ever considered that you can’t have an intellectual conversation with some folks because you are simply rude? There’s something to be said about being intellectual but if your presentation is littered with unnecessary or preemptive nonsense, you tend to lose your intended objective.

ummmm, the movie was heavy on social justice politics. So calling that out is now not allowed? heck I could over look all the SJW stuff if the movie was actually good, but when you put all those forced messages on top of a crap cake of a movie it's just more annoying :thud:

I don't want politics or heavy social justice lectures in my star wars movies, just give me a good freakin film!

This is my first time logging into here in awhile, and after seeing the movie twice I'm honestly shocked at how many freaks hate this movie. I really enjoyed it for the most part. I agree the whole Canto Bight/Finn and Rose subplot sucked which was disappointing. I also agree that Holdo shouldn't have even been in the movie, her character could have been replaced with either Ackbar or Leia and it would have been much more impactful. And the Marvel humor was a bit much.

Can someone explain to me what else was wrong with the movie, that makes it possibly one of the worst SW films? Hopefully without jumping down my throat. I'm genuinely curious. Was it how Luke was handled?

You TLJ lovers are slowly killing Hamill :monkey2

Aaww so sad. I don't think I've ever seen an actor bad mouth a film he's in this much while in production and right after release. The fact that he doesn't even think of him as Luke and had to pretend he's Jake Skywalker (lol) really goes to show. Then he just adds on but Rian is brilliant at the end every time but at this point it's clear he doesn't mean it.

Add this to him contradicting Kathleen and Rian when they said its his movie and he said 'no it's not,' or when he said they should have used George's ideas at the premiere, or comparing it to transformers and saying it's just about the money etc.. Damn I love Hamill, he really says what he thinks. That's rare nowadays (except on Internet forums :lol)

LOL! it's ironic because I personally didn't walk out of the PT in anger, I found them entertaining enough while not "great" movies. Same with TFA. But TLJ was a total turd and embarrassment to the franchise. anyway that's my personal perspective and I usually don't dwell on movies the day after I see them so I'm 100% surprised that I'm still annoyed by it 2 days later :rotfl

Unless he says something political, than you guys hate him and say he should shut up, cause he's just an actor.

You can still have an intellectual conversation and be aggressive. You can even wield insults if you'd like, so long as they don't take the place of a coherent argument. I don't believe in ethics, so I don't feel obligated to do anything. Nobody owes you politeness. If you're going to be insulting, you'll get insults right back from me. In fact, the only thing I enjoy as much as intellectual debate, is competing with bullies in wielding emotional abuse. It's a game, to me. Why would I refrain from being snarky, when responding to someone who's being equally snarky? I'm not passive or weak. If that's your style, that's your call but the world will eat you alive.

You're right that I was critical of a behavior rampant within the feminist movement, and identity politics in general. However, you're wrong that it's irrelevant to this discussion. This discussion is about logic and reason. The movie itself undermines logic and reason, while having a feminist subtext. It's intertwined, making direct correlations. The movie goes so far to undermine traditional western understandings of epistemology that it literally BURNS DOWN A LIBRARY, as Yoda tells Luke that the acquisition of knowledge is unimportant: Everything Rey needs to know is inside her. That is Post Modernist nonsense. It's the very thing being espoused in Sociology and Gender Studies classes, via Derrida et al. Are you opposed to addressing the subtext of a film? What if it's political? Should you refrain from talking about the politics of a film on a film website? I don't see why.

It's also relevant, because a Post Modernist approach is being used to defend the lack of logical coherence within the film. Who cares about internal logic within a narrative?! How did it make you FEEL?! This nonsense persists because there's a willful disregard for logic and reason. And it's being fed to you implicitly within the film.

some of you guys are even worse than the josh for his love of Middle Earth...all is good...no matter what

I love him no matter what he says, as long as he doesn't personally attack someone or lump people into a group. He's been pretty good and civil about his disagreements so far, and presented his reasons for feeling the ways he feels well.
