I have a friend who hated men being labeled as incompetent directionless jerks in TLJ.

I gave him some great advice it made him feel better get some control back.

I told him move to Saudi Arabia convert to a wahhabism worshipping muslim and you will immediately gain your status back at the top of his manhood ladder.

I’ve personally witnessed a woman in that culture get knocked out with a punch to the jaw just for speaking out of turn that is the absolute norm to do that.

Another norm if the food isn’t cooked and laundry done by the time the men arrive home the punishment will be severe.

There you go instant manhood remedy for Kathleen Kennedy running SW.

The solution is there if one wants to regain their control again now in 2017 don’t even have to travel back to 100AD.

I bet the divorce rate is low too...aint that supposed to be a good thing...at least that's what I was taught years ago

A post-menopausal boomer cat lady with purple hair and a chip on her shoulder. Yeah that’s a great role model, KK!

I'm done in this thread.

The constant stream of hate, political and non-political bashing, little to no actual discussion going on of any relevance to the film.

It's just an ugly place now.

I'm so disappointed in this forum.

I can handle people not liking something I like, but this has just gotten out of hand.

Blame Disney. They made something SW fans can't help but hate. Even Hamill himself can't help but publicly renounce this garbage.

Kylo would look cooler with some facial hair. He'd look like Alan Rickman in Robin Hood.

He would look cooler with more scars and yellow eyes. And his hair tied as well because it looks a bit ridiculous.

Reminds me, Campea answered a fan asking why Kylo didn't have yellow eyes at any point, and Campea just answered "because that's stupid".
Dude has no idea it represents the dark side flowing through the person's body. His mind went straight to "I hate the prequels and it happened to Anakin in ROTS, so I hate it". Calls himself a huge fan :slap

The truth is painful to so many...some handle it well, some cant....welcome to the TLJ thread

It is a perfect Socialist Role Model...

Of course, straight from the playbook. Subvert the family so that women look to and depend on the state, blah blah.

I think it’s so obvious now with TLJ that normal people are noticing.

Disney could have kept it a simple, wholesome good vs. evil story, if they wanted to.

Those Collider guys are just scared to say anything too bad. I heard they're review where they were saying it's "fans faults for speculating for years" but isn't them speculating about things the whole reason they even have jobs?:lol

Believe me i’m all for feminism after all I do have a mother, sister and neice (no daughter just a son) but if you’re going to do it with Star Wars just please do it in a respectful manner that makes narrative sense to the franchise and fans, that’s all not too complicated.

Speaking of feminism where I work in every single room where a male boss employee is with any female employee not just a subordinate but any female emoyee the men are now using hidden recorders to record their interactions with the females 100% of the time lol.

Can’t say I blame them.

Anyways back to the movie I still don’t think it’s a POS like the PT are lol.

Isnt recording secretly like that illegal? Here you can face charges from recording people without them knowing

I think you just need to pick and choose who you read and respond to. I've been finding myself just skimming people's avatars on the left side of the page and just reading the posts of those whose opinions I respect (and note that I stopped on your post. :duff) Yes lots of hate and massive over-reactions but I consider such reactions as an unfortunate inevitability when such a bold *and well done* movie dares to blaze a new trail in this beloved Saga.

What's funny is that I don't even consider things like Space Leia or Astral Luke or Rey and Kylo talking to each other from separate planets to be ridiculous or crazy notions. Not in a SW film anyway. Yoda was obviously keeping tabs on Luke from Dagobah (even to the point of possibly reading his mind) and both he and Ben's teachings seemed to constantly imply that we were always seeing just the slightest glimpse of what a Jedi could do. I fully expected the PT to *greatly* expand on what fully trained Jedi at the top of their games could accomplish and all we got was...a single oddly placed "Force sprint."

I'm greatly enjoying all the new powers we're seeing in ST, from Kylo freezing Poe's laser beam and putting Rey to sleep up to and including Leia's space walk and Luke's dimension walk. Great stuff.

This is so perfect:lol

holy shoot...again give me Urko, Cornelius,Zera,Zeus,Caesar as my next door neighbors vs that guy....I think I watched like 1 min beginning at one minute at the end.....holy crap...they do exist

Yeah great point who knows I thought the same thing.

But since it wasn’t my corporate park I was just like wow that’s nuts lol

Haha yeah they caught so much flack for that, Mark Ellis especially.
The dude is the most "surface" Star Wars fan. Doesn't know anything lore-wise outside of the OT pretty much.

You could tell Ken and Kristian had to process how disappointed they were (like most people, they didn't expect to be) to actually start pretending they liked the movie.

I wonder how many that cried on election night of 2016 loved TLJ....If Vegas had bets on that I would bet the farm...

Its really depressing. To be a massive SW fan and have to basically lie through your teeth on camera every single week.

I'd much rather work at Home Depot for $8.10 an hour and retain my honesty and freedom than receive $2K Disney checks in the mail every month that force me to say TLJ is a great movie.

I don't even think they need checks to lose their honesty. Being invited to the premieres + various small perks are probably enough.

In following videos Kristian has really been defending the point of view of people who hated the movie and trying to say their issues are totally valid. You can tell he is completely lost between his personal Star Wars fan convictions, and having to pretend (especially being surrounded by a lot of people who loved the movie).

I watched it again today in the manner that I found watching the PT palatable. Which means being mentally selective.

Like Vader, there is still good in it. But yet so much humour and slapstick at every opportunity. This response to Khev still stands:

These are points where Rian found connection with the established past. And that was a pretty poignant sacrifice from a lonely, self-exiled and dispossesed man. In fact, he fits the archetype of one of Conrad's anti-heroes, who flee to remote places to hide from the eyes of a 'civilization' who judged them for some crime or ill-conceived act.

Yet TLJ doesn't create the gravitas leading to the final act. The intended audience (in terms of merchandising toys epsecially) is supposedly eased along by the jokes and slapstick humour. In the OT you could say that these things fit seamlesslty into the whole. But in TLJ they are forced (pardon the pun). Rian deliberately undermines the lightsaber handover because he has a different story to tell for Luke.

But, instead of having Luke show his emotions in a more subtle manner he has him use the moment for comedy. In one moment all the reverence for this character is undermined. It's followed up with the jokes about coming from nowhere and his reaction while drinking the milk. The constant need to lighten the mood and ease the tension for the audience is at odds with this lonely man who hid himself away, despairing at the hopelessness of the life beyond his island.

Rian was trying to tell a serious story, something beyond a simple yet thrilling space adventure, but the parameters of the telling are always pulling in another direction.

But the humour seemed even more present on a second full viewing. Like a conscious need to keep pulling back from the edge of darkness.

Like you and rush i’m a fan of the movie and while I think rush and I probably share similar social views I don’t agree to just abandon this thread because of the heavy influx of opposing viewpoints especially ones focused on the social political aspects of the movie.

Snikt is right Disney only has itself to blame.

If Disney didn’t want an influx of angry white men then they picked the wrong franchise to play social engineering with. SW is mostly an all white male dominated franchise.

Now it’s too late Disney now has to deal with the fallout and passionate reaction.

While I personally don’t get offended by such things i’m going to respect those that do and hear out their complaints because some are valid while others just help expose their own lack of self worth and confidence.

So yeah i’m not going anywhere give me your best shot I can do this all day lol.
