I think fans like myself wished we loved the movie, I am quite jealous of the people that enjoyed it. It definitely ruined more than a handful of plots and characters we all loved. I don’t think fans would purposely torture themselves for fake attention

Never be jealous of those who swallow Kennedy titties milk that would make a giger counter go off like an air raid siren

:exactly:

For me talking about it also helps coping with the reality of what I witnessed 10 days ago.

Did it ruin Star Wars for me? **** no. I still love Star Wars, I just hate this movie and how (in my eyes) Ruin Johnson completely disrespected JJ's work, the lore, characters, and handled this movie so selfishly, as if it didn't belong to one of the biggest/most anticipated trilogies in the history of cinema.

In retrospect, I think the writing was on the wall when they unveiled the title even. Rian wanted to leave his mark. So for the first time, the title is red instead of yellow, and the name doesn't follow the naming conventions so far either, all to indicate how 'different' this will be (look at me I'm Rian!):

The phantom menace - A new hope - the force awakens

Attack of the clones - the empire strikes back - the last Jedi

Return of the Jedi - revenge of the sith - ??

Which one doesn't fit? You get 3 guesses!

It indicated how little he had respect for what came before. I know he *thinks* he respects it, and he probably *thinks* he's doing Star Wars a huge favour by blowing it up like this, but it was just about his ego (and kathys agenda as well as her lack of vision) in the end.

In the end it's a nitpick but just illustrates the larger issue with how he went about it.

Another great post. The irony is the rebuttals I’m reading aren’t pro feminist responses, they’re mosty In denial of what they’re watching.

BTW the feminism I grew up with was about equality for women. Today’s feminism is about elevating women and basically *****ting on men.

Where were the rational strong male leaders in the rebellion? Who were the male role models for little boys? The hot headed Poe? The grumpy Luke? The irrational and emotional Kylo? The useless Finn?

The female role models were nearly perfect in how they were characterized. But let’s keep ignoring this massive disparity.

Well except for Phasma....

The whiney OT Luke defiantly gave rise to the generation who saw this film....

Another very small detail points to that in hindsight: Kylo's scar.

It was a big story when people first saw his scar in TLJ, as it wasn't in the same place anymore.
Rian Johnson replied that it looked ridiculous where it was originally located (following Rey's lightsaber strike in TFA) as it went across the bridge of his nose.

I didn't think much of it at the time, like most people I'm sure. But now it all makes sense, it's all perfectly connected. He treated Star Wars as his personal passion project and a way to leave a mark, no matter the impact on the franchise as a whole.

Yes, this is very true! Good catch. It's exactly that same 'what I'm doing is the right way to go about it' attitude that he has. He doesn't care if he disrespects what came before because he believes what he's doing is better. I don't think any of us would have cared if the scar was larger and across his nose.

And this just goes hand in hand with the rest of the issues as well, which are too numerous to get into.

But one of the biggest for me is the light speed crash. If this was possible, why wasn't everyone doing this? And especially during the clone wars, all the droids needed was a central AI somewhere calling the shots on all these kamikaze ships. They would have been unstoppable. He didn't think anything through.

Huh? You're not making sense. All knowledge involves opinion. You don't have absolute certainty regarding anything. No one does. You lead with the best theory (or 'opinion') based on evidence. You learn by trying to disprove your own opinion...

Hmm it seems even you might be realizing how quickly your arguments crumble when challenged (just like all criticisms against TLJ, heh heh) as you're throwing out lots of strange tangents to move the focus away from the topic at hand. :) Suddenly we're debating whether anything at all has any absolute certainty? Just stick to Star Wars man...

I was just repeating what i heard? :dunno

It is interesting you automatically assumed i would need a tiki torch.
You are already blaming me for stuff ive never did. This is why trump won. Congratulations, you are literally why he won.

Someone gets it! Bravo good sir, bravo. People who do this kind of condescending insulting don't get that they're the cause of their own problems. The moment you disregard someone's argument and jump to him being a women hating torch brandishing racist is the moment they push back. All of trumps supporters were labelled as such and then they expected them to *still* vote for the party that humiliated them. Instead they took the word they were mocked with (deplorable) and made into a badge of camaraderie between themselves (like the word f word for gays or the n word for African Americans) and pushed back harder.

But they never understand and keep the insulting going.. They don't realize if they keep this up trump is going to win again. Or in this case TLJ will be even more ***** upon, just 'for the lulz'

Also I'm not saying this as a trump supporter or hater.. Just a curious observer... Looking at the trends..

I think breaking across his nose is cool. Why did Rian think that looked ridiculous?

Oh yeah, because it likely looked cool, that's why.

This is so perfect:lol

That guy has got to have Khev bloodline....I would cast him into Saarlac Pit no problem...and this time remove his jetpack first..I forgot to do it with Khev last time. ..he got out

I was just answering a boardie's question and that guy that barely posts comes to attack me... he completely disregarded the context of the post. Like seriously how can someone be so mindless

While I somewhat agree, I think the push is just that they are actually trying to show a hero different from a white male, something that is was never really done until very recently.

So it feels like it’s being forced. It is especially true in a film where that angle was very rarely shown or shown to a much lesser extent. (Leia)

Hunger Games was always about a female lead. Harry Potter advances females for major roles....

Other than those, female leads still are the rare exception, not the rule.

That is so way, way, way off the truth it surely must be sarcasm, no? Are you seriously saying that there are very few female-lead movies, even major studio releases?

A tsunami of movies swirls in my head without even thinking deeply about it - from Disney live action tentpoles like Malieficent, Alice in Wonderland and Beauty & the Beast to major adult-oriented brands like Sex and the City and Fifty Shades of Grey, to action/thrillers like Lucy, The Shallows, Hanna and Girl with Dragon Tattoo to drama/thrillers like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train to major, big-budget action and/or sci-fi/horror franchises like Divergent, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Wonder Woman, Wanted, Twilight.

That's a tiny sampling. And I'm not even including more "traditonal" female-oriented stuff like bad girl films such as Bridesmaids, How to be Single, Pitch Perfect, Bad Moms and Girls Trip to romantic comedies (of which there are countless dozens of major titles or even franchises like Bridget Jones) to the huge multitude of female-driven/lead animated Disney movies from Frozen on back.

Um didn’t Holdo tell Leia after Poe was stunned that she liked him being exactly who he was?

She never once said “You will go to jail until your behavior and inherit character traits are changed to be how I want you to be!”

No she told Leia that she liked him being who he was a much needed and appreciated spark.

Which i’m sure people will now point out that if she liked him like he was then why didn’t she trust him enough to just tell him her plan.

I don’t know about anyone here but i’ve been in plenty of situations where my superior officers have tested my character by keeping critical pieces of information from me or given me false information for their own motives or had me find out things on my own or just flat out said “need to know basis deal with it!”.

Sometimes my superiors would even show their dissatisfaction in the most round about mysterious way or even worse their appreciation in the most direct rude manner that left me scratching my head trying to figure out if I was being complimented or disciplined.

Not everyone gets everything they always want to know sometimes things are compartmentalized.

So yeah Poe was NOT emasculated by Holdo but if everyone wants to ignore her compliment about him then ok sure men suck.

Oh i’m sorry did I just destroy the ongoing narrative here i’m sorry lol

I think the point is that the way the entire situation plays out is just poorly written.

Let's see:
You've built up Poe to be the great, dashing hero of the first movie. He's the gung-ho hero. He's the Han Solo/Indiana Jones archetype. But now you suddenly want to deconstruct that image, so you have him make all the wrong decisions, disobey direct orders and start a mutiny. All within one unbelievable situation after the other (much faster ships for the Resistance, yet they never actually outdistance the FO Fleet?). But let's go back to why Holdo and Leia don't let him in on the BIG plan. Is there any reason they shouldn't? Their ACE commander, the man who has won them countless battles, the man who is a legend both among foes and peers? The man who for those very same reasons must be an inspiration for their own troops? It makes zero sense. From a story stand-point it makes no sense. That is what is bothersome: it's poorly written.
Oh, but it's alright because after he almost ****ed-up their plan, Holdo says she likes him that way. That is insanely baddly written. None of the OT or PT are so stupidly written.

So, no, you did not destroy the ongoing narrative.

Strong female leads are fantastic. Just write the damn movies in a way you can have a strong female lead without the story being idiotic.
