Number 1) I don't know...its easier to answer how many licks does it take to get to a tootsie roll in a tootsie roll pop....2) Reys first menstrual cycle has been teaching her since TFA 3) See last 666 pages

Well except for Phasma....

The whiney OT Luke defiantly gave rise to the generation who saw this film....

Phasma was in TLJ?? I did step out for 30 seconds to take my kid to pee, guess RJ also pissed away another cool character with potential in the 30 seconds I was gone LOL!!

The part with the monkeys. . .was the worst. Makes the fridge scene seem like the pinnacle of achievement in film by comparison.

I don't want to judge other boardies here for their honest opinions. We all have the right to like or dislike a movie for whatever reason we want. But I do feel there is a common refrain going throughout lots of criticisms of film that is tied to an ideological sensitivity. In politics, on both sides, there certainly does seem to be hyper sensitivity to certain things. When people wear their ideology on their sleeve, they seem to go looking (possibly unconsciously) for examples that support or oppose it. And when that happens, I think evidence presents itself. An example of personal interest to me is this!

https://youtu.be/Hnjdq32u-MU?t=1h9m16s

But with the polarization of political debate, I think this has ramped up in recent years, where it no longer affects just people on the fringes. I've seen news articles about all of this, so it certainly goes beyond the discussion on this forum.

Having said all that, I think it is clear that there is a strong anti-capitalist theme in this film, and I think there are feminist overtones, as there are in lots of Hollywood films nowadays, though I don't know if it goes as far as some here say. For example, one bit of evidence is that the Jedi order, being a manifestation of traditional, masculine authority, was totally destroyed. But Rey actually snuck those books out on the Falcon from what I've read. And Poe is the leader of the resistance at the end of the film, as JYE points out (I suppose you can argue that he has been emasculated to get to that point, but it just seems to me that he's been taught to be less impetuous and to perceive and rank the full menu of options before making a choice).

Personally, I'm not sure the film has a singular, narrative vision of the sort being espoused by some, beyond the clear anti-capitalist and race horsing perspective. I'm not sure Rian could make up his mind on a lot of this, any more than he could with Kylo Ren's arc, given how the story keeps twisting and turning. Luke was tormented and couldn't figure out what to do with himself. Same with Rey. The Red Letter Media guys argue that almost no one progresses in this film, in that they all more or less end up where they started. With the exception of Poe.

I will never understand how a multibillion dollar company can make a movie with anti capitalist medsages....

Is that what's going on? Aw well... :lol

But come on, even ESB ended with everyone (except Han) all chilling cozily with their peeps outside the galaxy in their big armada. The end of TLJ has the handful of Resistance members all huddled together in nothing but the Falcon itself! :lecture
. Nobody at the end of empire felt cozy.... least of all the audience.

. Nobody at the end of empire felt cozy.... least of all the audience.

Hey Luke how do you feel?...Cozy.....Lando you lost all your Colt 45 and your home how you feeling brotha...Cozy...Chewbacca you lost your brotha from another hairless motha...how you feeling fuzzball?...cozy

The plot HOLES are HUGE... if hyperspace can be used to wipe out an entire fleet, why didn’t they just put everyone on the corellian cruiser and then have a droid (or Holdo) use the medical frigate and scout ship to make a u turn and slam into the FO fleet with a hyper space jump?

And why waste 80% of your fleet bombing the dreadnaugt? Why not just have a couple of bombers jump into hyperspace through the dreadnaught right from the start of the film?

JJ is gonna have his hands up his own arse trying to pull something out to explain away why hyperspace isn’t used as a weapon in every scene hence forth.

I felt sad when everyone in the theater clapped after the Broom Boy scene.

All of the rose plot line. Perfect example, han slays a ton ton in half and then you get this movie and they are pro animal rights, oh Hey i feel soo much better removing this saddle and her speech about how she hates the whole place where GOOD AND BAD guys make money. This movie is a huge political move like oh Hey everyone can be a jedi, that’s straight up democrats for you.

There was also the pro-vegetarian message, and anti-animal cruelty.

So, not an evil agenda. Unless you're in the meat industry.

There was also anti-capitalism, which was a very strange agenda to put through a Disney movie. The Mouse didn't see that one coming, or going.

With Disney buying up all these properties and putting these types of messages in their movies, how much you want to bet that in less than 15 years time, we’ll all have adopted vegetarian lifestyles, no longer procreating and women will be inheriting the earth. [emoji15][emoji15][emoji23]
