Rebel scum :lol

You know while I don’t like that Casino scene DiFabio is right about those cops they looked really cool and old school I seriously want a HT of that.

I wonder if Clown saw the movie already. :lol

Don't worry. I'm still here.

Visiting Ohio to see my family for Christmas. It's officially the 25th now.

And I'm sitting here alone in my parents' house arguing about a crappy movie on the internet instead of putting toys under the tree for my kids. Cause I don't have kids. Or a wife. Or a girlfriend.

Siiiiiiigh.

It's Christmas, that time of peace and goodwill to all men (and women!), so without further ado...

On the arms dealing: there was a distinction between Imperial/First Order designs meaning 'bad guys', and the X-Wing meaning 'good guys'.

Binding those two sides together is the shady arms dealer, who is at first set up to be a 'bad guy', because he deals in machines built to kill. Yet he also supplies the Resistance.

So you have a re-evaluation of what it means to be good or bad people, as well as a re-evaluation of what a machine designed for killing is. Piloting an X-Wing Luke killed a million people with one torpedo. There is a difference between fighting a war to build an empire, and fighting a war to preserve freedom from empire builders.

In one sense though, proponents of empire can argue they're bringing order, civilisation and new freedom to people. Which is what the Resistance would say if they got the chance to establish another republic. The universe is more complicated than it was in 1977 when Lucas had a clear distinction between a Nazi style Empire and a plucky band of Rebel freedom fighters. This a simplistic WWII type distinction.

Come forward forty years and the real world isn't structured in such neat order any more. Not even a Cold War to maintain a balance of power. The enemy isn't nations, but individuals (terrorists who would define themselves as freedom fighters) from many nations banded together for a common cause, with their own divisions and rivalries within that cause.

So contemporary problems press into the escapist universe of Star Wars, and manifest themselves with different ideological perspectives. To the point where you even have suicide bombers in the rebellion.

With all that, on top of his personal and Jedi Order issues, it's no wonder Luke has removed himself from the war.

Great post.

Great post.

And with that, along with the post about meritocracy, I'm beginning to see why the film became messy. Rather than grandstanding certain ideologies, it was actually addressing them, through the various character arcs. But it was too much for the scope of the story, especially in a series that originally made its place by offering escapism.

Yes, but its tracking for $300 million less than TFA, its currently being outperformed by The Panthom Menace even before adjusting for inflation

No, this is not how financial success is measured. This movie is going to poison the well for future installments and with Solo around the corner and having needed massive reshoots, if that one is a dud too it could be disasterous for the franchise as a whole. Only a fool would think this is good as long as they make money off this endevour. This ticket was purchased thinking the movie could be good. Next time they will be less inclined to purchase a ticket. This is where the real damage is done. This is why heads will roll.

maybe audiences are looking for escapism, not nihilism and heavy handed class warfare propaganda...No that cant be it. Lets double down and greenlight three more Rian Johnsonverse SJW WARS films

Were you good or naughty this year? If you were good Kathleen Kennedy will come down the chimney wearing a red suit and a big white beard... and milk you while you sleep. Because Christmas is a time for giving.
