Therefore not far removed.

The PT weren't moves on the life of Moses they were about the birth of the Skywalker name.

Not even close to anything remotely far removed.

I edited my post after you quoted me I think...and how many years did people have to forget the PT?

TFA did what it did regardless of the prequel trilogy. My god do you not remember the effort it went to to separate itself from the PT? All real sets, no green/blue screen, 100% prosthetics... yada yada.. It was a major PR marketing push by Disney to say that this is a new Trilogy, forget that prequel rubbish, we know a lot of you hate it. No, this is the real deal, OT characters is a sequel trilogy.

And here we are, Luke drinks green milk from a rubber sea critters *****, Leia flies through space like Mary Poppins and the second episode in a new trilogy arc completely ignores everything that was started in the first movie. What a ****ing mess.
Still like the porgs though.

... oh and some Michael Jackson/Disney promo kids ***Wishing on a Star** - how could I forget that. :lol

No one has pointed out the real demented **** of Chewie sitting there eating a Porg in front of the Porgs. Imagine the agony that little critter went through as Chewis snapped its neck and tore off its feathers then skewered its carcass over a flame.....all while those innocent little darlings watched on in agony as their family/friend was murdered

I hear you believe me it is plainly obvious this movie isn’t giving Disney what they wanted to see which is unified fan adoration.

The only think I was addressing was you piggy backing onto Wor-Gar’s belief that long term irreparable damage has been done by TLJ regardless of it being a box office success and i’m just here to tell you that 1.2 billion dollar box office buys ALOT of repair men and women lol.

Just read a blog post one of you linked: https://bittergertrude.com/2017/12/20/this-is-not-going-to-go-the-way-you-think-the-last-jedi-is-subversive-af-and-i-am-here-for-it/

The author of the post, "Melissa" interpreted The Last Jedi accurately. She writes,

"The Last Jedi has a clear message: The nearly all-white, overwhemingly male, privilege-based way of thinking that celebrates war culture and toxic masculinity and that created the First Order has to go, both in the larger world and as it’s internalized in our hearts and minds, and in its place will be something entirely new, created by diverse young people who are walking away from war culture, walking away from toxic masculinity, walking away from systems of privilege. What new society will they create? We don’t know. But we do know that old ways of thinking have failed us in every possible way. The wisest of the older generation, like Luke, have known this for a long time. The selfish, small-minded, hateful, and power-hungry in the older generation will continue to hunt and seduce the next generation, but the light still stands. No matter how much power they accrue, no matter how many angry young white men they convince we are the enemy, the light still stands. The future is brown, and female, and brilliant, and fierce, does not give even one single **** about the way things used to be."

:rotfl This is exactly what I saw in the subtext of The Last Jedi. It's moronic, but the author's interpretation is accurate.

Ween tread lightly in here many are like Ground Hogs as soon as they see their own shadows they go running.

jye....it's getting where I can't post in most threads anymore. I won't bother talking about it cause I don't want to give a certain few any fodder.

I haven't seen this yet so I'm out. Enjoy....I think? :lol

This thread has given the movie a run for its money in the “that’s entertainment” department so please come back and enjoy the post viewing festivities lol.

If you like the movie then you have been assimilated by Invasion of the Body Snatcher cocoons lol

I think also there was a lot of distance time wise between the films. A decade is long time to smooth things over. I am not afraid to admit that I actually liked the PT when it came out then slowly abhorred it after time. Now I can tolerate it aside from Jake Llyod and mannequin Skywalker. I hate TLJ and can't see time changing that as I'm older and more crotchety.

Even the more entertaining resident SW bashers have quit this thread. It’s like Brokeback Mountain but one guy is straight.

I 100% believe Disney are in firefighting mode now, why do you think Hamill suddenly *apologised* for bad mouthing the film.
Disney are not interested in a single movie but the legs that the franchise has long term.

We will agree to differ on this one Jye! Let's see what happens with Solo in a few months.
:lol

It's those bargain bins overflowing with TPM figures again. Back when Lucas hoodwinked the toy manufacturers into letting them think he was making a Star Wars trilogy.

It was actually a lesson in not spending your years salary on toys for a movie you haven't seen yet.

And that’s perfectly fine we all have things we hate and love and things we change our feelings on over time.

I was just simply addressing the death of SW that’s being thrown around here like it’s something new that Kennedy has discovered.

SW survived the “LUCAS ***** MY CHILDHOOD” era it will survive the very horrendous “TLJ BOX OFFICE SUCCESS” era.

You're right. They are absolutely in firefighting mode. The damage to the franchise doesn't even have to be "long term". It can be for 3 years, and that in and of itself is enough to cost Disney billions. I won't be paying to see the next few Star Wars movies, and as a collector I won't be purchasing merchandise, either high end for myself or toys for children in my family. I don't reward failure with continued brand loyalty. I won't be paying to see Solo, episode 9, and likely won't pay to see whatever film comes next. I'm done. I think a lot of other people feel that way, too. So long as Kathleen Kennedy is at the helm, they won't get my money.

Yeah, i think it will survive. $1 billion in 15 days is a total disaster by some, but I think SW can handle it.

Well what is though morph is that Wor-Gar and Rory, 2 very outstanding and smart buggers I might add, were bringing up a very valid and legitimate problem that Disney could be facing regardless of the success of the current box office as we all know it is but the long term damage to the brand that TLJ might be causing.

I am not here to dispute with them if TLJ is causing long term damage or not I was just here to remind people of history in that SW rebounded from “LUCAS ***** MY CHILDHOOD” with a 2.2 billion TFA so even if TLJ is causing harm SW will be around forever.

"Please attack cisheteronormativity in your next film."

This is ridiculous but it’s exactly what KK and Disney have in mind. And it’s not “inclusive” it’s actually very very divisive.

That's the issue eventually. Trying to go in that direction will turn a franchise that brought people together, into something divisive, that will generate endless debates and hate. I'm all for good and positive messages in Star Wars, after all that's been part of these movies from the start, but there is definitely a right and a wrong way to do it. Disney needs to avoid a completely split fanbase at all cost.
