Yes.

And remember, most of these characters only have a single movie to their name. Everyone from Qui-Gon to Jyn are expendable.

But Han Solo and Luke Skywalker!? The had 4-5 films. That was not a proper send off to Luke. **** doesn't even make sense. After decompressing himself and sitting up straight relaxing, he just . . . dies? It's so stupid. That's not even taking account how lame the whole force projection **** is. How does it even work? I mean, doesn't Luke have to concentrate to project an image of himself across the galaxy? How come the Falcon dice in Kylo's hands disappear and vanish after Luke dies? Shouldn't those have faded away the moment he passed?

It's stupid.

Yup.

And the whole thing with Kylo and letting the First Order get powerful is his fault. He just gave up and let everyone else clean up after him.

I mean, I'm sure he'll show up as a force ghost or some contrived and cheesy BS, but they really squandered his character for one last outing. Could have done some great **** with him for one or two movies. The build up with the map and 2 year wait certainly wasn't worth it.

There seems to be two POV when it comes to Luke in the ST.

1. He's leaving a lot of unfinished business that he is directly involved and maybe even responsible for, and letting others continue the good fight.

or

2. He's inspiring a new generation by sacrificing himself like uncle Ben did in ANH.

I think there are more effective ways to show Luke inspiring a new generation though. However, another difference between Logan and Luke, is that the Logan film IS about Logan and his story, while the new SW franchise isn't really about Luke, but rather setting up the next film and the new characters, but in doing so, they directly involved Luke and made him the central focus of TFA, and one of the main reasons why Kylo becomes a villain, and ultimately Luke doesn't get to save the day...and that's where the disappointment comes in. They made him more like Uncle Ben, but it's easier to accept Ben going out the way he did because he was never the main character, but Luke being the protagonist and doing the same thing, feels a bit anticlimactic for the character.

Jumanji UP nearly 40% in its 2nd week. That's good word of mouth.

Up 38% with earnings exceeding $50 million and it *still* couldn't catch Star Wars. Go TLJ. :)

And a mere 26% drop shows that it isn't going anywhere for a while despite claims that audiences are supposedly outraged by this film.

You got to admit, for Jumanji, that's a huge uptick... and coming anywhere near Star Wars is amazing in 2nd week (not a dig at Star Wars but being impressed by Jumanji).

Oh absolutely, and I joke now but I won't be shocked if Jumanji beats TLJ next week. I haven't seen it but my ex is watching it with our kids as we speak so there's three more tickets right there, lol.

EDIT: Had to do a quick edit because for some reason my phone capitalized the word "it" above which made it seem like I was announcing that my kids were off watching the horror movie of the same name, lol.

That was quicker than I expected, but still well below TFA:

Forget TFA as it never had a chance of coming close to that but I'm beyond shocked that TLJ not only surpassed RO's entire domestic and foreign earnings but did so at the end of its second week???

Sad. I obviously think RO is the better movie. Wish it held its own a little better.

I was going to say, I wouldn't be surprised if Jumanji holds its 30+% into a 3rd weekend. Looks like I will have to go see this one after all (wanted to anyway for Amy Pond).

Disney is not crying over the loss of aged disgruntled cynical fans who cling to OT like it’s mana from heaven....

They are too busy counting the money and projecting profits from the new fans.....

All it will take to get most of you back is a 3rd film that gets good fan and critic reviews....not great....just good.

And you all will be back....it is pointless to resist...give in.....search your feelings you know it to be true.

Death shall save us all...Death can recue Star Wars

I think my biggest issue with Luke's ending or "arc", is that it really should have ended in ROTJ.

Unlike Logan's ending, Luke is just there to pass the torch to a new generation. He even said it, "The rebellion is reborn today. The war is just beginning, and I won't be the last Jedi..." cut to the young cast looking at him like they can somehow hear what he's saying and later broom boy to show the future of the franchise without Luke.

At least in the case of Logan, the story ended, and although it might be implied that there's a next generation, we won't see it. Logan's story is over and he saved the day one last time.

Luke on the other hand is kind of responsible for the death of his students and Kylo, and his story or arc ends with a passing of the torch, but not ending anything, he's just going to leave while the war is "just beginning." I don't like it :lol

How is the rebellion reborn anyway? They've been wiped the **** out! They can fit on the Millenium Falcon! No one responded to the distress call they sent out from Krayt (or whatever that planet was called) so there clearly wasn't much in the way of allies. So, what, an anecdotal tale that Luke Skywalker got off his *** at last and distracted the First Order for a little bit to allow the pitiful little band to escape again is going to rally everyone back to the rebel cause? (obviously it will but I don't know why it would, and then once they find out that Luke is now dead as opposed to merely disappeared then surely they're right back to wondering whats the point)

Well I saw RO 8 times compared to just once for TLJ so I did my part, lol.

I am catching a second showing in about an hour but even though I loved the film it's not one I see myself going crazy with like I did for RO.

Third week-end. And come on it totally makes sense. The appeal of RO was far more limited, maybe not for old school fans but for general mass audiences.

To put things in perspective, even if TLJ ends up making 1.4B, that's a 33% drop from TFA to TLJ. More than the drop from BvS/WW to the total mess that is JL. That's huge.

it tells me that so many are stupid or curious to see if difabio/Worgars post are true

You can't possibly consider a 33% drop from a prior picture that made over $2 billion to be remotely comparable to the embarrassment of JL struggling to outperform a tear jerker about a little kid with a deformed face...

good question

Be curious if any luster wears off on 2nd viewing for you, or if you like it even more.

I'm curious as well. It's all about the Luke and Snoke scenes for me so I can't help but wonder if the rest of the movie will feel greatly lacking on the second viewing or if I'll consider the whole thing to be acceptably endearing, warts and all.

Yep this is me.. Because even bad SW is good SW :lol

Not sure how much I will re-watch this film though if 9 sucks.. This will be like the transformers trilogy to me.. Pretty to look at but no substance at all So it might get viewed every 5 to six years :(

As opposed to my OT / RO yearly viewing :)
