Why? What's not to like about it?

Compared to every other MMO, it seems way better

For starters Bioware games (IMO) have seen a decline in quality: For example Mass Effect 2 only had a sad excuse for a story, much worse than the first. Mainly the story was just "Recruit a crew...Attack of Reapers...Recruit some more...Final Battle". It was horrible.

Second, and this is my main reason: This game has been in production since late 2007? Probably longer. They've shown us countless videos upon videos of gameplay, development, and everything else since early 2008 or so. (It's been so long that I don't remember exactly what year what started.) That's fine and dandy, but what's the F'n point when there was no official release date until recently?? And I'm even skeptical it'll even get released then without getting delayed again.

I agree with you that it looks good, but that doesn't mean squat to me if it takes 5-6 years to come out. (See Alan Wake)

You are lucky you don't play Blizzard games then.

ME1 story > ME2
ME2 everything else...DESTROYS ME1

I think it's fine if a game takes a while to make, as long as it performs. I don't see how waiting a long time for the game is something that diminishes the final product. I think it would have been worse if they had announced it and released it within a year, people would have wondered how they cut corners (FFXIV). At least they give us constant updates so we know that the project is still ongoing. And it's not like they gave any solid release date to disappoint us with.

For me, I really enjoyed the Bioware games, Mass Effect 2 was quite an accomplishment I think, just considering how much they were able to do in 2 years, they really know how to craft a game. The story was a bit iffy, but it's still better than most other games that come out these days.

Yeah, with an MMO.. if you wait too long, you loose site of what the audience wants. APB is a prime example of that. but if you constantly try to adapt, you keep pushing your game back...

I'll be honest, i'm not sure if we have a good, strong MMO (EQ/EQ2), A wowkillier (Doubt it tbqh, the only REAL way to make a Wowkiller is to do everything the same as they did in the development cycle, which bioware isin't. No one is willing to spend that kind of cash on an untested product) Or a pail-of-fail. ( Horizons, APB, Champions, City of heroes, etc)

Being it's BOTH a star Wars game, AND an MMO, i really doubt there will be any middle ground. it either is going to be great, or it's going to meander along like Galaxies. Never Really dying, but not really doing much more than supporting itself either.

I COULD be wrong, and now that i know about the CGI movies and their art direction, i feel a little better about the game as a whole. And while Bioware RARELY dissapoints, they do have the occasional mis-step. The Rail-shooter for space combat being the most GLARING example so far in TOR.

we'll see.

This game will hopefully be everything galaxies was not.

This is really the only game i'm even looking forward to AT ALL.

Bioware will not fail with this. It has had plenty of time for polish as an MMO. The subscriber numbers will be huge. WOW huge? We'll see. I'm giddy with excitement to live in the SW galaxy once again. (first 2 yrs of galaxies was great )

what server did you play on?

I actually enjoyed the hell out of Galaxies when it was first released. It wasn't until after they started updating it and changing the mechanics that I hated it. It sort of Forced you into playing in groups, and nearly impossible to do most of it Solo.

that's kinda a thing with mmo's. Group play is forced upon you. if you don't like it, generally, tough.

Blizzard did an excellent job with making 90% of Wow soloable. and for the parts that aren't, there is the great LFG tool to allow you to find a group automatically.
If they're smart, TOR will adopt a similar mechanic.

It seems like it's something that you can do solo, you've got NPC party members, and it looks like you can bring a friend on a mission, but it's not essential.

I'm just really glad everything's voiced

that's the thing that REALLY concerns me actually. the npc party members. that really smacks of guild wars/ diablo territory.
if they go that route, they had best not be planning to charge a subscription fee.

as for group content, for smaller events, sure npc party members work. but the Majority of the mmo crowd is big on raids.
and by raids, i'm referring to encounters and boss fights that require 25-60 players to complete.

for those of you unfamiliar with MMO's, these type of fights are typically the big "end of the game" ( leastwise until the expansions start rolling out) fights, with the BEST loot coming from the "dungeons" and fights that these encounters are located in. Having said loot is a status symbol.
NOT catering to that crowd when you develop an MMO is setting yourself up for failure.

That's where the Looking for group tool comes in handy for those players who prefer solo play.

I agree with you on the voicing.

Have they addressed player house's? I'm sure it won't be like galaxies, but i still would like it.

I would think your spaceship will be like your house, don't know about other property though.

Aye

Would be nice if it was instant like EQ2 housing with hotels/inns in cities. We have no chance in getting housing/player cities like swg tho :(
