IT in its 3rd weekend BEAT a NEW LEGO KIDS MOVIE for the 2nd spot!

IT in its 3rd weekend came only 8 milion behind Kingsman 2 which obviously under performed.

Wow a new Lego movie, a new kids movie beaten by a rated R horror movie, wut!

I was rooting for IT to win the boxoffice 3rd week in a row.

I'd like to see more IT movies and less Kingsman movies.

Even though KM technically won the weekend the real story and winner here is 3rd weekend IT beating a 1st weekend lego kids movie.

IT is just a phenomenon that defies expectation at this point. The numbers this thing has pulled is astonishing considering it's a horror.

I'd argue the Freddy, Jason and Myers films are more well known than 'that scary clown from IT', yet none of them could dream of achieving the BO success of this. Next year's Halloween isn't coming close to this numbers wise.

In a day and age where your average horror is a crappy annualised jump scare found footage bollocks fest, or the newer trend of 'my social media is haunted' trash, IT feels like a breath of fresh air.

That's the point. It's as old as time yet feels fresh against the last 8 years of superheroes. Its the audience screaming for something else. And the "kids" story is as important as the "clown" in this. Same with the success of Stranger Things.

The tired clichés you mentioned for the cheap and usually uninteresting post-Blair Witch nonsense has also run its course, culminating in the night-vision scares of Paranormal Activity 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, ..... Finally someone spent some money on a Scary Movie and gave its characters depth beyond teenage anxiety and ***-drive.


Or maybe its just an unexplainable one-off thing...

The Conjuring/Anabelle/Insidious formula is also a huge win for WB at over a billion world wide.

But yes IT is performing more like Bridesmaid and less like Jason Vorhees lol

I think I'll enjoy Insidious more than this one, it's a more self-aware franchise than this movie was, and the jumpscares are handled much better.
