Re: Stranger Things (netflix show)

Hopefully it's not a year long wait

I hope not. I'm willing to bet it will be though. With the kids aging, I'm hoping they can push it sooner. I know in a recent article that mentioned S2 will be about 1 year later to accommodate for them 'growing up,' but hoping it doesn't get pushed back too much.

Re: Stranger Things (netflix show)

I really think David Harbour is underrated. Really liked his acting in Equalizer, Walk among Tombstones, etc.

I must admit that I was not very familiar with his work before watching Stranger Things (need to fix that now), but he was amazing as Hopper and together with Millie Brown my favourite actor from the show. He also seems like a very nice and down to earth guy; I've been following his funny and warm reactions in twitter to the fanart and acclaim from all around the world.

A one year later works for me to accommodate for the cast growing up and I agree with you in hoping that it doesn't get pushed back that long.

Re: Stranger Things (netflix show)

So many nods and references that it should have been distracting, but I am delighted that it wasn't. I enjoyed this series so much. I think by law everything should be grounded in the 80's. It's just so much better that way.

So I am guessing there are distinct parrells between this and Alien, whereby humans are mere vessels? Will is a vessel for the next 'Alien, Predator, Venus Flytrap' thing? But how come he survived? Some interesting unanswered questions. For this reason I really hope we do get a second series to flesh it all out.

Hopper is in contact with Eleven? Or trying to make contact?

That's what I was thinking. especially since the lights started flickering after he puked it out into the sink.

My thought again as well. He was given info when he was picked up by the "bad men" at the end of the finale. They must have given him some sort of way to try to reach out to her so they can once again get a hold of her.

Wow. This thread is only 9 pages long? Figured it would be off the charts considering how f'n amazing it was. Then again, I grew up in the 80s. Lol.

Yes, it's a bit weird taking into consideration its popularity right now. On ther other hand this is SSF after all; you'll get more enthusiastic responses and discussions over mediocre movies/shows than good ones as long as the characters are wearing spandex/leather/costumes :cuckoo: ...no further proof required than the Suicide Squad thread

Back to Stranger Things: as a veteran D&D player I loved the multiple references on the series and the way the kids used it as an analogy for their adventure in the real world. I dediced to start a search and try lo locate the two miniatures Eleven uses while trying to explain them where Will is hiding:

The Demogorgon was easy. Some days after the craziness of the series premiere, a miniatures site did an interview with a -no doubt surprised- John Denett which sculpted it originally for Grenadier back in 1984:

The original miniature may be hard to find now, but luckily the mold was set to an italian company (Mirliton Miniatures) which is still producing it right now...so I already ordered one :)

The Gandalf like wizard was a completely different story. I found no references to it on the props articles, plus apparently he was not match to any of the Gandalfs/mages from that period produced either by Grenadier or Ral Partha. Therefore I had to resort to brute force and spent quite some time searching for wizard/sorcerer/mage miniatures trying to match them which what we can see in the show. And I believe that I finally found him: the Andallin wizard produced by Reaper Miniatures below

And a side by side with the Stranger Things one. Quite dark shot, but the details in the hat, pose, robe and so on seems to be a perfect match...clearly one of the kids bent the staff:

As I side note that would make the wizard figure an anacronism, because it's clearly a modern release :D. And with that freaks, I end my D&D disgression.

All awesome points. I had an affinity for Werewolf the Apocalypse and Vampire The Masquerade when I was wee bit younger. All my other friends played D&D and still do. Every once in awhile I'll jump in a quest, it's still really fun. And yeah all the comic book RPG references were used very very well. I'm a huge comic book guy too, so the X-Men references were spectacular, especially when comparing Eleven to Jean Grey. This was one of the best series I've ever seen.

It really is. RPGs were always a great escape to some place amazing and magical. I probably sound corny, but it's the truth. Lol.

Re: Stranger Things (netflix show)

I just loved the 80s nostalgia. Hope the show stays in the 80s.

I'm sure it will. I was actually wondering how long they're gonna keep the kids in middle school. Maybe they'll move into high school if they go past a third season. Kids don't stay this young forever! When did this take place again? '83?
