I got my Styracosaurus EX today #34. Its pretty good....I think the paint job could have been a little better on this one compared to the others. Also, has anyone noticed how incredibly light weight this dino is?? I took it out of the box and it felt like a can of coke...almost hollow (which it most likely is). The base itself is very heavy and clearly made from solid polystone. But if SS starts cheaping out on these pieces and makes future dinos hollow I will drop this line very fast. Overall though...I like it.

Chris

Aren't the other pieces also hollow to an extent ? It makes sensxe considering the poses.

We have an updated list of future pieces :

This is the list in order of how we heard about them.

1) Deinosuchus VS Parasaurolophus Adrian Taboada
2) Allosaurus VS Camarasaurus Jorge Blanco
3) Spinosaurus maquette Tony McVey
4) Un-named VS Dio
5) Stegosaurus maquette Jorge Blanco

That last was mentioned in the newest issue of PT. If those are all coming out this year I'm hurting..lol

I really hope we see pics of some of them at Toyfair next week.

Hollow, you say? Can't say I've gotten that impression from any of the Dinosauria pieces during unpacking. Quite the opposite. Wouldn't surprise me if some were hollow to a degree, though, for the sake of counterbalance on the stand. SS has been known to come out with hollow pieces from time to time. Compare the weight of the Sabretooth LSB to the Doctor Doom LSB.

3 more upcoming pieces.....

I'm already running out of space and I have no idea where to put the Allosaurus VS Camarasaurus dio when it arrives....

Anyways, I'm excited about the upcoming statues and definitely will purchase them as soon as they are available for order....

The Styracosaurus is no Hulk PF, but I am pretty sure it's solid. :dunno

I never got the impression that any of the current Dino pieces were light, they have all felt solid to me; certainly in comparison to say the Sabretooth LSB. :angelsmil

Styracosaurus is definitely hollow. I just just picked it up one more time and its light as hell compared to the weight of the base. I can understand making certin pieces hallow to counterbalance their long bodies like T-rex. But I cant see that being needed for Styracosaurus. Even T-rex has considerably more weight to it when I picked him up. Please SS dont start making these hallow now to....this is the only line I collect from you anymore thats worth while.

All my dinos feel light, but I definitely like this one as much as the rest. I received #22 by the way.

I just did a tap test. It sounds like the Rex's tail is hollow while the rest is solid. The carno and the styrac seem to have more hollow places. But weight wise they all feel on par to me. My big question is...why does it matter if its hollow so long as it looks good?

And did I read that there is a stegosaurus maquette coming out? Is that confirmed? Not just a rumour?

it probably has wire frames inside so the limbs and tails don't break off or succumb to gravity over time. i think they feel like a statue. i don't know why they would need to be a 20lb solid polystone brick.

:lecture

I agree it doesn't need to be solid, to be considered a good statue. The price would end up being higher if it were solid polystone, i'm guessing.

Every piece feels like a good, solid statue to me.:rock

It's a fact according to the new issue of PT...but no mention of a release date.

Reducing the weight is a good idea considering how some collectors display them. Glass cases, even plastic, can crack and break under extreme weight. If they were solid putting 3 or 4 on a shelf would certainly exceed the limits... :lol

Personally I like my statues to FEEL like statues.....not the shell of a statue. A few people will argue that weight doesnt matter. Well if thats the case what are you paying for? Just a shell with a fancy paint job:rolleyes:
When I go to subway I ask for EVERYTHING when they ask for the toppings I want....why....because I want my money's worth! Same gos here....I would like a fancy paint job with solid polystone please.

That being said...I cant wait for Spinosaurus and I hope hes SOLID. Im watching you SS:gun

well i don't hold my statues in my lap. i look at them. so i don't care what they're made of, as long as they look good. after taking them out of the box and putting them on display i never touch them. he could be made out of solid gold and i wouldn't know the difference under the paint anyway.

Your part of the few that I speak of....

The difference between a Honda and a Mercedes is 1cm of metal. But its that little bit that makes the difference between standard and quality.

Chris

There is alot more difference between a Honda and a Mercedes than an inch of metal... As is the difference between a sub (that you eat) and a statue that you look at (and cannot tell the weight by looking at it). I respect your point of view, but if someone else set the statue on the shelf for you, and you never picked it up, would it really lower the quality?

Its the same thing with the Boba Fett PF, alot of people were pissed that its made of ABS instead of Poly, but once its on the shelf you can't tell its any different than the others.

Plus you are assuming that you are paying a price worthy of solid poly. If they were solid poly the price may go up. Not to mention more shipping.

My mercedes analogy isnt literal....of course theirs other differences between the two brands. The point I was trying to make was that for the higher price you pay for a mercedes they take their time to look at things like metal thickness. You dont SEE how thick the metal is just by looking at the car. It could be made out of paper mache if they wanted it to. However, im sure you would definitely appreciate your life being saved in an accident with a metal car Vs a paper mache one.
All im saying here is SS doesnt HAVE to make their statues solid..I would appreciate if they did. I prefur my statues to feel like Mercedes and not hondas.

Chris

Ah, I see your point now. You meant that the 1cm of metal may not seem important, but in crash tests it does make alot of difference.

We're not buying Mercedes cars or Subway sandwiches here. Your analogies have no bearing on the substance of these statues. The statues are all about aesthetics. I like that these dinos are made functionally to bear their weight and hold a dynamic pose. IMO the look, pose and paint apps are what are important. I'm less concerned with the weight.
