i don't remember the rock choosing in previous seasons. the earlist seasons used "previous votes against" as the tie breaker.

Your memory is not correct. Here is an Entertainment Weekly article where Jeff Probst is quoted talking about the screw up in Season 4 and how it was a screw up from the seasons before it.

Jeff Probst said:
The most interesting thing about Marquesas — and what nobody knows — is that we screwed up on the colored-rock tiebreaker that knocked out Paschal. In the event of a Tribal Council tie, Survivors pull rocks out of a bag, and whoever pulls the colored rock is eliminated. The way it's supposed to work is that once the tie is revealed, the people for whom votes have been cast and the person with immunity all become safe; the others have to pull rocks. We didn't realize that process works for all numbers except for four. (With four people left, only one person is eligible to pull a rock since one has immunity and two have received votes.) I realized something was wrong about halfway through as Paschal, Neleh, and Kathy were all pulling their rocks out. Even if I had figured out exactly what was wrong, there would have been no way to correct it because we had already done it. Let me be clear — no rules were violated. It's just not what we meant to happen. And that's the truth.

It works, vote. Tie then revote. If another tie those where were previously up for elimination are safe and those who were voting choose rocks. The firestarting started later and was shortlived.

I didn't like the fire-starting, seems very biased towards someone who is more outdoorsy, and I think that the random rock selection is better choice. Obviously, that chance is enough to scare some people because it ultimately didn't go to final rock tiebreaker last night.

This season is the best since either Ozzie or Rupert (that bearded tie-dye dude, if that's his correct name).

Yup Rupert is the Pirate :lol and Ozzy was the boy who was set up to win the whole thing and was blindsided holding the idol in his pocket.

i liked it more when the person with the hidden idol could use it after the votes were announced myself. if they would of kept it that way the idol would certainly of gotten used a whole lot more. as it is now it very seldom gets used.

but then on the other hand the first time they had the hidden idol, the person that had it pretty much went all the way to the final four and never had to use it cause he let everyone know he had it, so i guess that's why they changed it.

so this post was pretty much useless.

Another blind side tonight, uuuh oooh now Shambo's on the rampage!

:horror :horror :horror

Shanbo scares me. It's not the tomboy butch ex-marine lesbian look either, it's more that she sleeps with and talks to chickens. She'd probably be fun to get drunk with though.

She is the swing vote. Russell is gonna have to kiss some major ass to get her back on his side now.

As long as she thinks she's going with Russell all the way, he'll be able to get her back in line.

It's funny though. Every week the preview for the following week makes it look like everyone is gunning for Russell....and then when you watch the episode, he's the farthest from being voted out.:lol

I loved Russell's rationale last night for who got voted out: I screwed up, so he has to go.:rotfl

This is turning out to be a good season. I remember earlier in the season websites were asking whether it was the worst season yet.

My only issue thus far is there are a few players completely under the radar from the viewers this far in the season. I had to go look up Brett's name on the website he's never on screen.

I think Jaison had the right idea about how it was screwing over Shambo. I'm not sure why they kept it from her. I think had they promised her that Dave would go after John I think she would have been ok with that. They risk losing her vote for nothing IMO.

Man, its hilarious though how since the merge its been all the original purple team being eliminated. I don't think we've seen this before. And they were so strong before. They blame the turning point to be when they turned on Eric, but the true turning point was when chief Russell got pulled from the game. It looks like he held them together.

What is interesting is that Russell seems to be leading simply out of fear, people are afraid to screw with him because he has been so instrumental in the votes. If he is smart he'd play the idol next time around as a just in case and oust Shambo. In reality, she thinks she is way more important than she is and has way too much information on Russell's plans not to mention she knows that he has the idol.

does she know he has this third idol? She knew about the second from the dock. I don't think he told anyone except the dude voted off last night.

Huh...maybe not, I don't remember now. I thought he found it and then showed it to Shambo while they were plotting the Laura stuff. Right before the rant from her about now its her time, everything is going to be perfect, etc.

i don't think russell should target shambo yet because lets say its down to natalie, mick, jaison and russell at the end. I think jaison and mick are tighter and can maybe manipulate natalie to vote russell out.

so russell needs shambo as a third with him and natalie so they can target either jaison or mick.

Also, I think Russell's angle is to have people that are thought of as lemmings to be in the final 2/3. I don't think Mick or Jaison fit that purpose.

It does seem that way doesn't it. I have a feeling its going to be true pretty soon. Even though he probably should win it all I don't think he even makes the top 4.

Next week's preview made it seem that Mick and Jaison were beginning to realize Russell is in total control. That he manipulated both former tribes to get the votes for John, made Shambo a fool, castrated Dave, mad Mick think picking john was his idea, and that Russell has found the idol multiple times. Last week was a real watershed week for Russell's game I think as he more brazenly flexed his control and the rest of the group are sensing the strings he's pulling. He's now got the choice now to try and get Dave or another Palau first then break up Mick & Jaison or turn on them now using Dave, Shambo and Nat. Of course they'll target him and hopefully he'll use the idol to blindside again. We'll see... I've got a feeling Russell will target Mick next since he told Mick about his money and he's the strongest male left. Russell's made it a lot further than I thought he would into the merge. If he squeaks to the finale it will be the best season ever!

Ok, there was NO scene in last weeks ep that made mention of Russell slipping, regarding his wealth, yet in the 'previously' recap, there was the unaired scene...I hate it when they do that...
