Saruman, hands down. Like others have said, the Dooku character was just there and didn't have much depth, at least not in the films.

no contest. Saruman all the way. He is one of the best villain created. One man that controls orcs and trolls is cool in my book.

Dooku was boring to watch and without any character dimension.

I vote for the one of many colors ... :saruman

Not only are they portrayed by the same actor, but the both serve similar storytelling functions, acting as a macguffin/ patsy for the true villian of the story. Both Dooku and Saruman are deluded into thinking that aligning themselves with evil will be a pathway to greater power and both pay for their mistakes. Sidious/Palpatine seemed to manipulate Dooku more though, knowing he was only a means to an end, to get Anakin to turn to the dark side, which made Dooku more pitiable. Saruman was still full of anger and malice trapped atop his tower, so I gotta give it to Saruman.

I have to agree with RoboDad and GB.... Dooku was a cool character and all, but had no depth to him (outside of the EU anyway). Saruman on the other hand was much more interesting

I gotta agree as well. Saruman is my vote... my 3rd for LOTR.

"Whom do you serve?"

"SARUMAN!"

As much as I love Dooku, Saruman was an easy choice for me. The Voice of Saruman (which we got a small glimpse of in ROTK) is one of my fav. chapters in the LOTR. He creates the Uruks. He controls Theoden. Plenty of good reasons for him.

um, yes he did.

Hmm, Episode 2 he runs away with his life after Yoda fights him, then in Episode 3 he was stupid enough into believing Sidious wouldn't betray him and underestimated the power of Anakin and got himself killed. Saruman was at least able to beat Gandalf in a fight

you said he never kicked ASS, Well your wrong, he took out both Anakin and Obi-wan in AOTC. I'm not debating who is better between Saruman or Dooku, I just think it's unfair to see Dooku never kicked ass or isn't cool, because he is.

I was dissappointed in the way Dooku was handled as a character. a lot of potential was squandered there, and his character never amounted to more than a proxy for Sidious. He had no more substance then the Nemoidians. That's not Chris Lee's fault. Bad scripting.

Saruman was well-written, conceived, established, acted, and destroyed.

In the end, I felt very little when Dooku's head rolled, ecept that I wished Chris Lee had a bigger part in the film. Or a better one.

When Saruman toppled from his tower, the enormity of his death and all that lead up to it hit like a ton of bricks.

Guess who I voted for.
